From Harry’s desk

HAPPY ? NOVEMBER Writing something positive is becoming more difficult each week let alone each month. The virus has affected everyone in many different ways. The number of reasons that people are unhappy is growing. And we are taking it out on each other. Unfounded innuendos, rumors, and many unproven statements are running rampant throughout our community and each person thinks they are right. As I have said at the end of all our board meetings, "please if you have a question about what is going on, the correct interpretation of the bylaws, or whatever, please ask it now, not on the way home or later in the day with your neighbors. If we cannot answer it then, we will as soon as we can. Doing it at the meeting will hopefully clear up any misunderstandings. Many people are complaining about no activities, yet when we ask for volunteer for anything, like delivering newsletters. help getting bingo back on its feet, restarting dogs and burgers, getting donuts on Monday mornings, filling out the questionnaire Phyllis has put out several times we have had zero, not one response. Bingo people write that they are running off to other places rather than trying to get it going here again. Bingo is part of the HOA according to our by laws, the FMO, the county and the state. Together they make the rules that we and others are to follow. Call me or Ron White with your offers of help. Does not have to be specific, just that you want to try and make our community a better and happier place to live together. Thank You, Harry Gerrish

Association Meeting Monday, November 23rd, 2020 

Starts at (Stay Tuned for the Place & Time via Email/Facebook)

First meeting of the Fall season

Come early and enjoy a donut with a cup of coffee (free donuts on Association Meeting dates)

Nomination slate for 2 officers and 3 directors will be presented and opened for year 2021 - 2023

 All members and any new residents interested are invited (Dues of 20.00 “ per household” must be paid by January 10th) 

Good way to meet your neighbors

Get to hear the Board and their accomplishments over the summer months

Looking for social Idea’s … tell us want you want and expect.

Must show Member card that you belong to Association in order to vote.

We need your input, questions and suggestions (bring some with you)

For all members, there may be a vote on association issues needed and we need your input

Newer things happening and we want to make this an active year again!

COME ONE…COME ALL…VOLUNTEER… In order to continue our activities successfully, we need volunteers who are willing to donate their time and talent as committee members for our various functions. There is a place for everyone who would like to participate. Please join us, as a helper or a worker, whether you have a little time or a lot, there is an activity which needs you and that could be selling of the 50/50 tickets, set up or whatever. We need participation from all of you in order to have an interesting, active association community which all of us can enjoy. If you can help in any way, please contact Harry Gerrish or Ron White.

Association “ Nominations” On Monday. November 23rd, the first association meeting of the fall season will be held (Time & Place to be Announced via Email/Facebook) At this time a slate of nominees, prepared by the nomination committee will be presented and nominations for Board Members will be opened to all members of the association at this meeting. The terms of office are up for all of the officers including , Vice President, Treasurer and also for 3 directors. Please take time to think this over and decide if you are at all interested in becoming a member of this Board. Did you ever think of what would happen if there was no association and what this community would be like? If there are no candidates who come forth resulting in “no board to be elected”, and none of the present officers deciding to stay on, “ this community” without an association would fail and all of us would be hurting because there would be no more coffee hour, no bingo, no potlucks, no pancake breakfasts, no hotdogs, no events of any kind and who would hurt the most? WE ALL WOULD! There would be no buffer between the community and the owner’s and who would all of you call then? Stop and think about this………… It is so easy to sit out there complain and do nothing, but have you volunteered or made your voice known or to bring forth ideas or suggestions? Did you ever stop and think of why things are done here and who initiates the plans that become a reality? Why should it always be the same people and why don’t we have more and new aggressive people who would like to make a change? This means you have to want to be on the board/committee’s etc. and keep the ball rolling and making this a community that everyone wants to live in and stand up and be proud of. If you are someone wanting to help out, be fair and equal on everything, have an open mind, have a good listening ear , (ideas), then you are a person we are looking for!!!!! I urge you to attend this important meeting so that you too, can take part in nominating your choice of candidates. If you don’t think you can do it and know someone who can, by all means, nominate them . Join the HOA and have a voice in the many issues and concerns. Each household pays the one fee of $20.00. Contact any of the Board members for any info.

Southfork Women’s Club

Once again thanks to your generosity, Jackie and I delivered a trunk load of non-perishable goods to Day Starr Hope Center. We also presented them with checks totaling $258.00. As always, they were truly appreciative of our support.

In November we will collect food for our annual Christmas Food Bags. The items requested are applesauce 48 oz (1), Debbie’s Cake's (2), canned corn 15.25 oz (2), canned green beans 14.5 oz (2), canned sweet peas 15.25 oz (2), and macaroni & cheese 14.5 oz (2). These items need to be dropped off to Jackie Morgano (11025 Ewing Drive) or Marcia Alexander (11018 Mesquite Drive) by November 13th. The club will furnish canned hams, bread and butter to finish out the bags. Please help if you are able, so these families can have a nice Christmas dinner. We need nominations for next year’s officers. Dot has agreed to accept nomination for Treasurer; however, we need names for President, Vice President, and Secretary. So, please submit the names of ladies that would do a great job heading our club. These names can be emailed to Marcia at marcialalexander@outlook.com or text to 515-201-6656. We will verify with the ladies named that they are willing to accept the nomination. Since the club house is closed again, we will have more information next month as to how the election will be handled. Thank you for all your generosity!

Marcia Alexander, President

Welcome Back!

With great anticipation we are excited to welcome all residents back to our Southfork Clubhouse after 6 1/2 months of being closed because of the COVID-19! ( JUST GOT WORD THE CLUBHOUSE WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ). It’s hard enough getting old, and with all of the creeping ailments that come along with age, now we have to add Coronavirus to the mix. So hopefully we will be back on schedule again in the near future. Social distancing is in effect until further notice! Watch for all email and facebook notifications! Over the past summer, the office managers have been doing some remodeling at the Clubhouse and you will have to see all the new changes. Come and take a look! Great job! Not only can you expect the new look of the clubhouse, but also meeting new residents and neighbors and start the park with some activity again.‌You can expect some excitement with the opening of the community again, maybe new ideas and most importantly FUN! With everything you do the rest of the year we all encourage you to be 100% committed to trying your best and knowing you have a support system here to help you when things get difficult. Please stay safe!

Veteran’s Corner By Penny Tardona

This is the first of my monthly tributes to Veterans who reside at Southfork. Each month we will present an interview with one of your neighbors who chose at some point in their life to serve their country. In addition, I will provide important information on VA Benefits. Since not everyone knows me, I will start with my own Military background. Please join us on Veteran’s Day 11 Nov at the Pavilion as we pay tribute to all the SF Veterans. Activities begin 11:00. Refreshments will be served.

United States Navy, 1976-1998. I was a Cryptologic Technician, retiring as a Master Chief Petty Officer (E9) My first duty station was in Puerto Rico where I spent lots of time exploring the Island and the Bacardi Rum factory with the other young Sailors, learning what it means to be out in the world making our own way. My next duty station was Keflavik, Iceland where I was able to experience the unbelievable phenomenon known as the Northern Lights. This was followed by a tour in Pensacola, Florida as an instructor in advanced Cryptologic training. My following tour was an extremely remote island in the middle of the Indian Ocean known as Diego Garcia, 2,000 miles from anywhere. Owned by the British, it was used by the U.S for staging of B-52 Bombers. My next duty station was in Chesapeake, Virginia. During this tour I was afforded the opportunity to deploy onboard the USS Iowa, BB-61. This was 1988 when women were not stationed on ships. It was one of the highlights on my Navy career. From Virginia I transferred to Adak, Alaska. A small island three quarters of the way out in the Aleutian Islands. In addition to more magnificent Northern Lights, the Salmon fishing was awesome! I finished up my career in Washington DC where I was selected to be the Senior Enlisted for over 13,000 Cryptologists deployed around the world. Washington DC is also where I met my husband Lou, also a Navy Cryptologist. Joining the Navy was the best decision I ever made, and I would do it again without hesitation!! GO NAVY!! BEAT ARMY!! Craft Club Hello everyone, I have been talking to several residents at the Monday Morning Coffee and found that we have a lot of crafters amongst us and that there is an interest in starting a club. This will be separate from the Quilting/Sewing Club so if you like to crochet, knit, scrapbook, paint, etc. come join us for our first meeting to see how we would like to structure this club. Please join us at the clubhouse (Pavilion until further notice) on Tuesday, Nov 10 at 9am for our inaugural meeting. This will be a wonderful way to share our talents and socialize with our fellow Southfork residents. I look forward to seeing all the different crafts people like to do and don’t forget the clubhouse rules of social distancing and wearing a mask. Angie Wing

Take notice “Clubhouse is closed until further notice”. It has come to our attention that a resident in the community has tested positive for COVID-19. All residents should take all the necessary precautions by social distancing, wearing a face mask and increase hand washing.

THE CLUBHOUSE WILL BE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THE OFFICE WILL BE OPEN BY PHONE ONLY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Please stay safe! Tim & Megan Kelly, Managers

As you all know we have a few Southfork groups on Facebook and would like to describe each and hope all of Southfork joins these groups. All the groups are a closed group which means no one outside of Southfork can view or post any info. Welcome all Southfork!

(Southfork, Fl growing up) This was made for all who like to remember growing up and reliving all the old time memories. From early childhood to teens and what we liked and that includes games, food you ate, school years and so much more. Takes you mind off today’s world and takes us back to our growing up years.

(Southfork Dade City MarketPlace) For the selling and buying and borrowing of Household Items, Items need to buy, Loaners for (Wheel Chairs, Walkers, Canes or anything to help someone in despair), Handmade Items for sale, Household help such as (house cleaning, yard work needed etc). You can list known yard sales in the area, estate sales and these are just a few to mention. Whatever you want and don’t know where to buy, sell or loan this is our own community MarketPlace post for all .

(You know you are from Southfork when) This is our way of communicating between each newsletter and a chat group. It’s a place where we keep everyone updated on current events here in the park. Management also uses this group along with mass emailing for any important items they want everyone to know about and some examples are water shutoffs or any closings, or anything pertaining to the park. That is the reason I ask for all email addresses and use it for “Southfork” only. When anyone passes away I also use this to inform all.

Southfork Vendor Listings This group basically lists vendors in our local area that we can call for work around the home or some emergency we need help on. Please feel free to add any that you use and that might be helpful to all!

You can search in facebook for each of these groups and click to join and you will be added in. Again just community residents can join these groups. Any questions send me a message at pkaygrossi@aim.com or give me a call at 352567-6105
