www.maryimmaculate.ie The Spectacle Bridge Designed by John Hill, the county engineer in the 1870’s, the Spectacle Bridge is an intriguing construction which spans the Aille River gorge on the Lisdoonvarna – Ennistymon road. The gorge was well over 20 metres deep & in a bid to construct a light weight bridge he came up with the idea of what is still a novel feature in bridge design – the double arched shaped Spectacle Bridge where a circular opening was built above the lower arch. This design removed the bridges filling & weight effectively running a large tunnel through the centre of the construction & created a lighter, more practical bridge.

Lisdoonvarna, Co. Clare Lisdoonvarna (‘fort of the gap’) is Ireland’s premier Spa town & is an excellent base for exploring the Burren & sampling the famous music & craic of North Clare. OPINION Justin

A guy sends a text to this next-door neighbour: “Bob, I’m sorry. I’ve been riddled with guilt & I have to confess: I have been helping myself to your wife when you’re not around, probably more than you. I know it’s no excuse but I don’t get it at home. I can’t live with the guilt any longer. I hope you accept my sincerest apology. It won’t happen again”.

Feeling outrage & betrayed, Bob grabs his gun, goes into the bedroom and without a word, shoots his wife. Moments later the guy gets a second text: “really should use spell check! That should be “wifi”.”

A woman was sure that her husband was chea�ng on her & having an affair with the maid. So she laid a trap to catch him. One evening she suddenly sent the maid home for the weekend & didn’t tell the husband. That night when they went to bed, the husband gave the old story: Excuse me my dear, my stomach aches & went to the bathroom. The wife promptly went into the maid’s bed.

She switched the lights off. When he came in silently, he wasted no �me or words but quickly got on down to business... When he finished & was s�ll pan�ng, the wife said: “You didn’t expect to find me in this bed, did you?” And then she switched on the light...

“No madam,” said the gardener.

On the way to preschool, a doctor had le� his stethoscope on the car seat & his li�le girl picked it up & began playing with it. “Be s�ll, my heart,” thought the doctor. “My daughter wants to follow in my footsteps!”

Then the child spoke into the instrument, “Welcome to McDonald’s. May I take your order?”

Two guys are si�ng at a bar. “You know why I love this bar?” asks the first one. “No,” says the second guy. “Why do you love this bar?”

The first guy points at the window, which is six stories above the ground. “It has a magic window,” he says. “You jump out of that window & you can fly.” The second guy just shakes his head. “Shut up.” “No,” says the first guy. “It really is a magic window. I’ll prove it to you.” So the first guy gets down from his bar stool, runs at the window, jumps out of it & flies. He flies around the building twice, up & down & finally comes back in. He walks to his barstool & takes a sip of his drink. “See?” he says. The first guy looks confused. He looks at his drink. “I must be drunk,” he says.

“S�ll don’t believe me?” asks the second guy.

“I’ll show you again.” He gets down from his stool, runs & jumps out of the window again.

This �me he performs some impressive aerial acroba�cs, spins, flips, dives. When he finally comes back in, the second guy is staring at him, slack-jawed. “Wow,” says the second guy. “A magic window.” He gets off his barstool, takes a running jump out of the window & promptly plummets to his death. The first guy starts laughing. The bartender comes over to the first guy with a stern look on his face. “Superman, you’re a real ass when you’re drunk.”

A priest who was very fond of pure, hot horseradish always kept a bo�le of it on his dining room table. Once, at dinner, he offered some to a guest, who took a big spoonful. The guest let out a huge gasp. When he was finally able to speak, he choked out, “I’ve heard many prisets preach hellfire, but you are the first one I’ve met who passes out samples of it.”
