Letters to the Editor

Personal Perspective after Candidate Forums To the Editor,

This personal assessment is nonpartisan and is information I thought You the Voter should know to make an informed decision. Scott Johnson vs Robin Souvenir for Sheriff: Sheriff Johnson has many years of service in law enforcement. I have no doubt he has done his best for Pacific County. However, he came across as one with little vision for the future. He gave lots of excuses with no solutions. Robin Souvenir has the knowledge and experience needed to become our new sheriff. After speaking with him, I found him to be confident, compassionate with personal integrity, passion and zeal. He recognizes the problems but comes with solutions not excuses. His ideas are sound and make

sense. His long range vision for the department and the county are exciting and accessible. VOTE Robin Souvenir for Sheriff. Mark McClain vs Pam Nogueira Maneman for Prosecutor I helped a friend defend herself against charges brought by Mark McClain. I was shocked to read the legal complaint. It was over minor property between domestic partners, clearly a civil matter but treated as a felony. The complaint was brought by the boyfriend who was once again in jail. I spoke with Mr. McClain concerning these charges. Here is why I oppose Mr. McClain so strongly. He had a strong personal dislike for my friend and brought these charges, threatening years of prison time. It was a ridiculous charge; one he wouldn’t dare take to a jury trial. He wanted a plea bargain. A few days before the trial, he dropped the charges but brought a completely new one even more ridiculous than the first; a non-felony with no time to serve, “give in.” and I STILL WIN! That was his agenda for these non-cases.

Support For McClain To the Editor, I don’t approve of these tactics and I hope you will agree. As an elected official and servant, I would expect the office to be better represented without bias and/ or prejudice. We can do much better! Pam Nogueira Maneman is a better choice and one we deserve. Drug related crimes are at an all-time high. The old ways of doing business are clearly NOT working. There are laws and instruments in place across our state that ARE working and yet Mr. McClain refuses to even consider these. Check here for more information: https:// www.facebook.com/notes/ pam-nogueira-maneman/ the-best-practiced-drugcourt/2220390594878701/ Take time to read “Large Grant Opportunities Lost” under “What about us.” Pam is ready and able to make the changes needed with vision and solutions. She is bright, well informed, tough, but more importantly has integrity and a servants’ heart. VOTE Pam Nogueira Maneman! Frank Tucker South Bend

I write to share my experience as a Deputy Prosecutor working with Mark McClain. I was looking for a legal job in the northwest. My husband, who is also an attorney, wanted to make a life in Washington. I had interviewed in Seattle and with Mark. It was a thrill to be offered positions with both, but ultimately I wanted to work as a prosecutor for Mark. I hope you all understand and appreciate the dedica-

tion Mark has for Pacific County, and the drive he has to make Pacific County safer for your family. Mark is a talented attorney who could be a lead attorney in any office and in any community, but he clearly fell in love with Pacific County. Mark has also turned the office around. That is likely why every police department as well as the Sheriff have endorsed him. I learned a great deal working for Mark, and appreciated and admired him in his role as both a manager and mentor. My experience as a female attorney in his office was a truly positive one. While we ultimately

chose to move closer to the I-5 corridor and the opportunities there, we feel that Pacific County is our home away from home and are so grateful for the opportunity we had, the professional growth that was possible with Mark’s help, and the blessings we received from our time in Pacific County. Although I no longer live in Pacific County, I want the best for my home away from home. I do hope you will cast your vote for Mark. Not only has he earned it, Pacific County is safer because he is there.

purpose of the meeting was to determine how best to get the word out to voters how well qualified Don Pape is to represent the public if elected to the Board.Don Pape has spent his entire life working in the electrical field having retired just a year ago from the Clark County PUD. I found Don Pape easy to talk to and he showed a lot of common

sense when discussing the role of a Commissioner’s responsibilities when serving on a Board of PUD Commissioners. Please vote for Don Pape for PUD Commissioner for District #2.

transparency and communication from those who represent us at the ‘public utility’, putting the rate payers before the status quo business as usual at the PUD.
