Irish Abrasives has been run by Jim Cuddy for over 30 years and has built an excellent reputation with its brand Orange and Green Cutting Discs and abrasive products.

Irish Abrasives was acquired in 2024 by the owners of the hardware companies Herron & Son and John Riddel & Son who will continue to build and develop Super Quality branded abrasive products.

Super Quality Cutting Discs

SUPER QUALITY Orange and Green Cutting Discs are the market leader in abrasives providing solutions for industrial manufacturing and maintenance, auto repair, construction, and the home improvement market.

Built Stronger, Lasts Longer

SUPER QUALITY grinding and cutting discs are manufactured using the highest quality materials which last longer while providing a consistent performance.

SUPER QUALITY grinding and cutting discs comply with international standards and safety requirements EN 12413.

At Super Quality, we offer a range of point-of-sale displays which protect the structural integrity of our famous Orange and Green discs. All cutting and grinding discs should be displayed ‘on the flat’ to prevent TEAR DROPPING which can be caused by hanging a disc on a peg.

The rotating display stand helps customer easily find what they are looking for and displays 1,000 cutting and grinding discs on the flat which protects the discs and uses only 34’’ square floor space (less than 1 metre!).

We offer safety tins with 10 discs to protect your Super Quality discs flat and counter display units to prompt purchases.

Safety & Instructions

• Avoid improper handling of the discs. Use only fibre-reinforced cutting discs on power tools.

• Store discs in a dry place at room temperature.

• Do not use damaged discs.

• Never exceed the maximum permitted speed specified on the disc.

• Use only discs that can be mounted on the machine without requiring force.

• Never use damaged, dirty or uneven mounting flanges

• Don’t overtighten the mounting nut or locking flange, as this may lead to deformations.

• All tools may only be used with the appropriate grinding disc protective cover.

• Make sure that the workplace is sufficiently ventilated and wear appropriate respiratory protection.

Max Operating Speed

Within the tables you will see F.C, D.C and D.G to denote the wheel types, which are as follows:

• Do not apply lateral pressure to cutting discs. Avoid bending the disc.

• Do not press the disc on the edge or contact area to stop it from rotating. Always switch off the machine and allow the disc to spin freely until it stops

• Avoid applying excessive pressure on the disc. It will cause motor to slow down.

• Do not drop handheld machines or lower them to the floor by the cable or airline. The weight of the machine can cause the grinding disc to easily crack if it is put down with too much force. This is a common cause of disc breakage.

• Only operate machinery in a position where you have full control and are well balanced.

Shelf - Life

Resin-bonded cutting discs for hand-held use may only be used for up to three years after the manufacture date. Each Super Quality disc has the expiry date (month & year) stamped on the metal ring for clarity. E.g. 09/2025

Enquire about our innovative disc display stand for your shop. The Stand takes up less than 1m square, it swivels on wheels and has the capacity to display up to 1000 cutting and grinding discs on the flat. This stand will prevent Tear Dropping which can be caused by hanging a disc on a peg, frees up valuable wall space for retailers and the unit can be moved around the sales floor.

Sandpaper

Sanding and surface preparation is a crucial step in completing any professional project to a high standard. It’s all about adding that final aesthetic flourish, or cleaning up materials, components, edges and surfaces for better functionality and a slick overall presentation. Whether you’re looking to clean up plasterwork or metals, produce an extra-fine finish on wooden surfaces, or hone a blade to a perfect cutting edge, Super Quality stocks a range of quality sanding and sharpening products to get the job done right.

There are 6 main sandpaper grits, categorised by coarse, medium, fine and extra fine. The grit is a rating of the size of the abrasive particles embedded in the sandpaper. The higher the grit number, the finer the abrasive particles and the smoother the finish that can be achieved. The lower the grit number, the coarser the finish but quicker the material removal rate.

40 grit: Coarse

80 grit: Medium

100 grit: Medium

120 grit: Fine

220 grit: Fine

440 grit: Extra Fine
