members, many of whom are either still on the active membership roster or turned up on the days when we were low on numbers and we really needed them.

Overall, the club is in great shape and the standard of lifesaving is excellent. We have an enormous capability across all the required skill sets but it’s up to us to make sure we utilise it and that the work load is spread as evenly as possible across the membership. Finally, thank you to every member who turned up to the beach this year to help out, particularly those who attended their rostered patrols. Thanks also to the life

Next Season Attendance of rostered patrols is something we need to improve on next season. I’m not sure when the idea that doing twenty five hours whenever we feel like it was introduced but it’s a bad idea and it doesn’t work. The roster is designed to spread skills out so we don’t have twenty people signed on when the beach is like a pond and nobody there when we have monster surf. Suggestions have been made about better communication to remind members via sms, email, facebook or the website when they are on patrol. Personally, I like the old school approach of sticking a copy of the patrol roster on the fridge with a bit of blu-tack…It’s not fancy, but it works!

Congratulations Jonno!

At nineteen years of age he took on a Patrol Captaincy this season for the first time. He is proficient in every aspect of lifesaving…swimming, board paddling, first aid, IRB and Jet Ski driving. He is also an instructor. He’s passionate, motivated and he seems to inspire that in other people. On every occasion over the season when we had roster issues he didn’t only volunteer to back up, but he did so with such speed that I suspect he has some sort of mind reading ability. He is a great role model for younger members. The first ever winner of the Jim Harpur Trophy for Patrolman of the Year is Jonathon Donnelly.
