Messiah of God, A Wolf in the Sheep’s Clothing?

“I am the appointed Son of God” lines that are usually uttered by Apollo Quiboloy, a known religious leader in Davao City. He is followed by many. And famously known by others as someone who brainwashes people with his fake prophecies. He is also known as someone so powerful that all those who went against his wishes will receive grave threats and delusional punishments. Recently, he’s been charged by the following illegal activities: rape, child abuse, physical abuse, and human trafficking. However, all of those cases were dismissed in June 2020 by the Davao City Prosecutor’s Office. With the current charges that he faces he still maintained a calm expression and not even once attended the court for ruling his charges. Not until a complainant that was a former member of his KOJC also accused him for raping her last 2014. This was later on reviewed and was submitted to DOJ, further strengthen the charges that was against him. As his charges resurfaces in the public media a lot of victims also showed themselves and went against him. Upon reviewing the case it has ordered a filing of case for violation of Republic Act 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law, which mentions a provision of sexual abuse of a minor. While all his calm demeanor and other redeeming qualities of his have fooled his believers some are starting to wonder whether to believe him or not.

Pulling the strings from outside could be of help for him. But as we look at things right now that every crime he has done have been dugged outside the dirt, all of the nation’s eyes are aiming at him and waiting for him to be imprisoned.

knowing that he is facing multiple charges against multiple people. Meanwhile Balayan, Quiboloy’s lawyer, stated that while they might not agree with the future findings, they believe that the DOJ’s actions are “correct”. And while he is facing all these charges, there has not been a thing that was able to make him break a sweat as his lawyer stated in an interview at Radyo360 that “ We might not agree with the findings but that is proper procedure.” Believable at it seems that he look like someone who follows and adhere the law, yet he still haven’t faced the international trial court. Making him a wolf in the sheep’s clothing. That while he preaches for his people to follow God, he also includes his name with it. Since to begin with he has always been a most wanted criminal overseas and just seeked refuge in Davao City creating a religion that seems to be a fraud.

The justice chief has also said to have signed a preliminary hold departure order against the preacher, preventing him from fleeing the country. With regards his current stature overseas the Government can no longer allow him to leave the country

Boastfully claiming that there will still be a battle with him and his complainants just seem so far-fetched unless there will be an outside help from someone he knows in the government. Pulling the strings from outside could be of help for him. But as we look at things right now that every crime he has done have been dugged outside the dirt, all of the nation’s eyes are aiming at him and waiting for him to be imprisoned. “Nothing is above the law.” A famous quote we often hear in the justice court implies that with or without his standing in the society he will not be excused by rule of law. All that we needed to do is wait right now and not keep our mouths closed from all the injustice he committed. Hoping that the judge will issue the right judgement upon him, claiming his karma from all the atrocities he committed in life.

Inclusivity an Afterimage of Yesterday’s Legacy: The Removal of Drag Superstars

It has not been long since the PALAKASAN 2023, cheers echoed around the not so big but wide gymnasium as many events became a spearhead that opened new possibility for a more inclusive environment. One of it is the Drag Superstar, that became a beacon of light that guides those who haven’t been able to express their true feelings and Gender Identity. However, things did not turn out as planned and as the PALAKASAN

2024 draws near, a new administration of student council has taken over. The current Student Council was not able to properly defend their appeal for the continuation of Drag Superstar 2024 in which results to a massive backlash in the student environment questioning the inclusivity of the said prestigious Institution. Was the past Drag Superstar a mere facade to convince the whole student body? Or is it an important matter regarding the safety of the students and its participants? Spearheading the inclusivity within the university environment allows the student to express themselves freely, creatively, and positively. It is another way to lessen the burden and for them to come out knowing that they’re welcomed by their peers and environment. Sadly, considering the failed attempt to appeal

for the continuation of Drag Superstars; the whole student body waits for the official statement of the KASAMA Student Council they’re hoping for the reconsideration of the administration’s decision. Due to the demand of the whole student body, Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan awaits for the reproposal of the newly appointed KASAMA Student Council led by Chester Tagacay. It could be due to the negligence of his predecessor that we have failed to appeal for the continuation of the Drag Superstar but I guess this could be just a mere speculation. Because at the end of the day it all ends up with the current University administration’s decision whether they will change their mind and accept the wants of the students.

Furthermore, we all must still consider that supporting a more inclusive

environment starts within ourselves and by promoting it towards others and we may able to influence and change their perspective towards inclusivity. Hence, creating an environment that help us break the boundaries that binds us and our past will be able to produce a more functioning environment. The students still cannot help but ponder the possibility of the fact that the all-hailed inclusivity within the institute is a facade to gain their trust. However, they’re still hoping that the current administration won’t leave them hanging as they continue to battle the unfair treatment towards their own gender role.

Women’s Month: The Unconditional Love of a Mother

Amother carries her daughter’s graduation portrait across the university gymnasium onto the stage to receive her posthumous award and medal during the 52nd commencement exercises of Mindanao State University - Illigan Institute of Technology.(MSU-IIT) on July 27, 2022.

This is the caption of a photo captured by Marian Grizelle Cabura, Silahis Photojournalist, entitled “A Mothers Melancholic March”.

The late graduate earned her Bachelor of Physical Education degree with a Cum Laude distinction.

I have been to a lot of graduation ceremony and I have never felt so devastated. Seeing this photo of a mother carrying her daughter’s portrait marching in behalf.

It is sadly noticeable how much she lost a loved one just by looking for her passed daughter.

My mother once told me “Ayaw sa panguyab Gee Ha? Ayha na kung naka trabaho naka.” You know this is just one of the few advices my mother has said to me. I may have been stubborn but deep inside I know she loves me.

Looking back at the picture it must have been painful and lonely to

lose a loved one, but this mother is different.

To add a little bit more depth about a mothers unconditional love, I asked my fellow literary writer, Cathlyn A. Ramo, CCS EC News Writer. “What advice did your mother give you that shows her unconditional love towards you?”

Since she does not have a mother, it was a mother instead that advised her. “Ampingan akong kaugalingon like kanang dili bitaw dali mu salig sa lain,” she said.”Thats what akong grandmother said,” she followed.

As shown by the story of these mothers, let us all remember that our mothers has always have that unconditional love towards us. So, in return, let us love them back. For this Women’s Month I want you to go to your mom and say “I love you”.

The Global Plastic Predicament: A Deep Dive into Ocean Pollution

In the vast expanse of our oceans lies a troubling truth: plastic pollution has reached unprecedented levels, threatening marine life and ecosystems worldwide. One major fact about this dilemma---it is now rapid and widespread among all countries, no one comes clean. It is estimated that 75 to 199 million tons of plastic can be found in our vast ocean, according to the UN Environment Programme. These waves of plastic currently swirl in our ocean waters, creating a crisis of monumental proportions that would further deteriorate the current situation of our environment and eventually jeopardize the welfare of the people. As we navigate the depths of this issue, it becomes evident that certain nations bear a heavier burden in contributing to this environmental menace.

Last 2021, the World Population Review disclosed a data revealing a stark reality. The United States leads the pack as the top generator of plastic waste, churning out a staggering 34 billion kilograms annually. Trailing closely behind is India with an amount of 26.3 billion kilograms of contributed plastic waste, followed by China having 21.6 billion kilograms of generated wastes, next is Brazil with 10.6 billion kilograms, Indonesia contributing 9.1 billion kilograms, Russia having 8.4 billion kilograms of plastic waste, Germany with 6.6 billion kilograms, the United Kingdom generating an annual 6.4 billion kilograms of waste, Mexico with 5.9 billion kilograms, and Japan having 4.8 billion kilograms, each adding billions to the pile of plastic waste.

effectively tackling plastic pollution and combat it on a broader scale. As we grapple with the magnitude of the problem, it’s crucial to recognize that the consequences extend far beyond our coastlines. Marine wildlife often ingests or become entangled in plastic debris, suffering agonizing consequences, and leading to detrimental impacts on ecosystem and biodiversity. Entire ecosystems face disruption, with long-term implications for biodiversity and ecological balance.

Beyond the environmental impact, it’s essential to recognize the socioeconomic aspects of plastic pollution. Coastal communities, particularly in developing nations, bear the brunt of this crisis, facing disruptions to livelihoods and economies.

communities worldwide.

The United States leads the pack as the top generator of plastic waste, churning out a staggering 34 billion kilograms annually.

Despite efforts to address the crisis, statistics from “Our World in Data” shed light on a concerning trend wherein most countries export their plastic waste within the same region. European nations primarily shuttle their waste within Europe, while Asian counterparts follow suit within the Asian region. This regionalized approach underscores the need for a cohesive global strategy and highlights the importance of

The tourism industry, vital for many coastal regions, suffers as pristine beaches become marred by plastic debris. Moreover, plastic pollution poses significant risks to human health, with microplastics infiltrating our food chain and water supply. Studies have shown that humans ingest microplastics not only marine animals in the wildlife. Through seafood consumption, people become vulnerable to viral diseases, potentially leading them to adverse health effects. A viral disease would most likely stack the rampant global issue of ocean pollution, further stretching the pressing environmental challenges our planet is facing. This underscores the urgency of addressing plastic pollution as a public health issue, necessitating comprehensive strategies to reduce plastic usage and mitigate its impact on human well-being. By addressing plastic pollution, we not only safeguard our ecosystems but also support the well-being and resilience of vulnerable

Most importantly, addressing this multifaceted issue requires reliable data and comprehensive information. The data presented by the UN Programme, Our World in Data and the World Population Review sheds light on the scope of the severity of this problem, offering insights into the magnitude of plastic pollution and its global implications. The facts and figures surrounding plastic waste generation and export are crucial for stakeholders to make informed decisions and implement targeted solutions to address the root causes of the issue. The ripple effects of plastic pollution are far-reaching, posing long-term challenges for environmental sustainability and human well-being. In response to this pressing environmental crisis, concerted action is paramount. Governments, industries, and individuals must collaborate to reduce plastic consumption, enhance waste management practices, and promote the adoption of sustainable alternatives. This serves as a call to action, urging policymakers, businesses, and individuals to prioritize efforts to mitigate plastic pollution.

While the road ahead may be daunting, the urgency to address plastic pollution is undeniable. By acknowledging the severity of the problem and committing to tangible actions, we can collectively work towards a sustainable future where our oceans are free from the scourge of plastic pollution. It is imperative for stakeholders worldwide to unite and take decisive steps to mitigate the impacts of this crisis. Through innovation and collective responsibility, we can strive towards cleaner oceans, safeguard both the environment and human health, create a more resilient planet that would adopt sustainable practices and invest in waste management infrastructure. With this, we can protect both the environment and human health for generations to come.

PH settles mettle against AUS in tiebreaker

The battle for 5th place in the recent 2022 Asian Volleyball Cup for Women’s was truly a sight to behold, Philippines vs Australia, two very powerful teams clashing at one another on full force. Held at Pasig City’s, Sports Arena on the 28th of August, 2022, with neither side wanting to give their opponent a chance to score, we ended up with an epic back to back game with multiple ties and heroic individual plays from the players of both sides.

In the first set after finding their footing the Australian Team started off strongly with a solid lead, until the Philippine Team finally found an opportunity to take advantage and started to slowly comeback. With both teams now finding their own pace a long series of ties were created from multiple heroic plays of Rebecca Redgen from Australia and Diana Carlos from Philippines. Redgen leading from the back line and firing up her team after every score they secured the 1st set with a 25-21 on their favor.

The second set of the game was Philippines stepping up their game and showing their adversaries that they can definitely take them on. The Philippine Team also showcased their lightning quick assist plays alongside Jema Galangsa and Carlos who made most of the calls that created a 4-point lead. Because of the point deficit the Australian Team became a little desperate and careless, letting this set fall into the hands of the Philippine Team 19-25.

The third set started of with explosive plays from the Australian Team, penetrating through their 2 and even 3 person blocks leading to an easy 5 point lead. The Philippine Team however did not make any of those points easy with Carlos on the front line

raising the team’s morale. However Australia did not slow down their offensive attacks at all and slowly increasing the pressure on the Philippine Team. Even with Carlos making daring moves trying to save this set for her team it unfortunately ended on their loss at 25-19.

With only one set to go the pressure was truly on the Philippines, this set was truly a sight to behold, both sides not giving each other an inch and turned into a long series of multiple ties and tiebreakers from the epic plays of players from each team. Redgen led Australia and Carlos alongside Galanza led the Philippines, 10-10, 13-13, 14-14 until 17-17.

A swift and unpredictable ace from the Philippines was what broke the shackles and set fire to the players of Australia. Feeling the hot hands Galanza of the Philippine Team played smartly while Carlos made the brave moves which ended the set in their favor 1825.

Because both teams had two sets in their name, the next set was a tiebreaking set for the game that would decide the winner, all players on the court were now feeling the intense pressure of their cheering crowd and the position of 5th place. Philippines were the first ones to show their cards and make very interesting plays with multiple players faking and sometimes double faking to take their enemies off guard. The Australian Team responded this with heavy defenses and created another back to back game of ball shuffling and ties. In the final moments the Philippine Team tried to desperately save a free ball and failed, but this laid the groundwork for their quick assist play that easily slips through the heavy defense of Australia, giving them the tiebreaker set and the game at 12-15.
