GOLF NEWS Dear Members, I can confidently say that this golf season has sped by the fastest for myself and our Professional Golf Staff. It seems just like yesterday we kicked off the golfing season.

As we turn the page to our off-season, please remember that the last day to post scores on GHIN will be Tuesday, December 31st. If you travel outside of the Midwest on vacation, you are still able to post those scores throughout the winter. Also, any outstanding Golf Shop credit must be redeemed by the end of the year.

We celebrate this opportunity to pay tribute to the brave men and women who have served our country proudly throughout the years and those who are currently fighting for our freedom all over the world.

National and Deuce members and their guests may sign up to participate in this time-honored event. We’ll pair two members or a member/ guest pair with two of our invited military guests. The cost for the event is $150+ per person and will include golf, carts, lunch, participant gifts and dinner. The fee helps the Club offset expenses and underwrite the costs for our invited military guests, who pay nothing to participate.

If you are unable to play in the Scramble but would like to contribute to help underwrite the costs of this event, we would be most grateful for your support. Proceeds from the event will be donated to a charitable organization. If you would like to contribute, please email Nic Ingram at nicholasi@thenationalgolfclub.com with your donation amount and we’ll charge it to your member account.

This year we’re also offering a limited number of seats for members who aren’t able to play in the event but who would like to attend the celebratory dinner. GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE Gary Sailer, CGCS Director of Golf Course Maintenance

Hello everyone!

I hope this fall has been enjoyable for you. We had great weather in October and we hope for nice weather in November and December as we still have much to accomplish with golf course maintenance.

Pre-emergent applications will be going out in both our rough and native areas in November. This is for grassy weed control going into next season.

Our focus then starts to shift toward checking depths in bunkers and adding sand where necessary before the ground freezes. We’ll also continue work on our capital projects which include the stream/ water feature restoration on #17 and pulling power to #6 green for a fan that is much needed in this area.

We recently repaired several panels of cart path that are near the back of the range area. These cart path panels were undermined from all of the rain we received this year and were unsafe (see the before and after photos on the right).

Tree work will begin in December as our agronomic practices wind down for the year. A main area of focus for tree removal will be the left side of #1. We will also address the narrowing tee chute on #3 and remove dead trees in areas where shade is detrimental to turf grass health.

Cancellation Policy

Our Cancellation Policy is in effect for many events in November and December, as noted in the text for the event as well as on the calendars on pages 22 and 23 of this newsletter. A Hands-On Kids Cooking Class

“Holiday Pies” Calling all junior chefs (ages 6 to 12) who want to learn some cooking techniques and work alongside The National's talented culinary team.

Today the kids will discover how to make HOLIDAY PIES! After the "hard work" is done, we’ll gather and celebrate our success by eating our culinary masterpieces.

Each child will use and get to take home a kitchen tool or gadget selected especially for today's cooking class. They'll also leave with recipes so that they may recreate these recipes at home in your kitchen. $15++ per child

The National is proud to once again partner with the Rose Brooks Center, a local organization protecting women and children with programs and services aimed at breaking the cycle of domestic violence. Our mission, with your help, is to collect new, unwrapped items for women and children in the Center’s emergency shelter.

WINTER JUNIOR FITNESS ORIENTATION 6-Week Program for ages 11 to 14 The hardest aspect of making physical fitness and wellness a part of your life is knowing where to begin. This program will help start your child on the right path as we educate them on safety and produce a life-long exerciser!

Participants will learn:     

Proper warm-up and exercise techniques Safe, correct use of cardio and resistance-training machines How to record progress Safe protocols for increasing weight and repetitions Participants who are 14 years old will also be introduced to safe free-weight training

Upon completion of this program, all junior members will earn the privilege of using the Fitness Center without parental supervision (typically restricted to those 15 and up) but only when a fitness team member is on duty.

Participants age 13 and under will be prohibited from using free-weight equipment.

Meet The National’s NEW MASSAGE THERAPIST! Please welcome our new resident Massage Therapist, Jill Saura! J ill has been a Licensed Massage Therapist for more than 12 years and is truly the ideal massage therapist for our Club.

Jill received her Associate of Science (AOS) in Massage Therapy from Heritage College in 2008. Since then she has received continuing education in the fields of Craniosacral, Myokinetics and Orthobionomy. She has experience working with a wide variety of athletes including team members of Sporting KC and the Chiefs. Jill has a deep understanding of the interconnectivity of all musculoskeletal tissues and how flexibility and mobility from massage can both relieve and prevent injury. For the past seven years she has been working with Harmony Health and Wellness.

In her down time, Jill loves spending time with her amazing family of five children: Keely, Cody, Lilly, Isabella and Reese; four grandchildren; and three dogs (Keanu, Evie and Daisy). This month Jill will be getting married to her best friend, Brad!
