Issue Highlights Dear Members, We’re counting down to spring and are hopeful the cold weather, snow storms and ice are behind us. Despite some of the “interesting” weather we have had recently, we enjoyed seeing so many of you at the Club for our February events.

Trivia Night was a lot of fun and our Food & Beverage team is planning to do it again. This year’s Valentine Dinner saw record numbers enjoying a stellar menu and well-executed service from our team and we welcomed 105 dads and daughters to the red carpet at our Hollywood Premiere Father/Daughter Dance! You’ll find photos highlighting some of these events inside this edition.

We can’t talk about February without mentioning our hometown heroes, the Kansas City Chiefs. What a month … what a team … what a win!

Let’s hope the “luck of the Irish” grants us lots of beautiful weather to get out and golf this month and that our KC Royals start their season off strong. We hope to see you soon!

Dear Members, I hope you had a good winter and an enjoyable off-season. As I write this letter, we are sitting at 12 inches of snowfall, year-to-date, which is average for this time of the year. The golf course is in good condition going into this final stretch of winter, and barring any drastic changes in the weather, I hope to see a good green-up as the warm weather returns in late March and April.

We continue to stay busy with tree work. This winter we focused on clearing some trees to the left of the cart path on #1 to improve light and air circulation on the rough to the left of the hole. We also worked on trimming up the canopy on many trees throughout the course. We removed dead trees and addressed trees which presented a potential safety hazard.

The stream feature on #17 has been completed! The results look very nice and will improve water flow. The stream behind #13 green was cleaned out as was the creek crossing on #18 fairway. These projects will also help increase water flow and reduce flooding. It is our plan to repair the cart path on #17 in the upcoming weeks.

Throughout the cold months, the GCM team also renovated all of our golf course accessories to make everything look like new for the upcoming season.

Greens aeration is planned for March 9th and 10th, weather permitting. Please allow several weeks for the greens to fully recover from aeration — also dependent on weather. The warmer, the better!

2nd Annual Women’s Golf PRE-SEASON TRAINING PROGRAM at The National Golf Club

Ladies … get ready for a fantastic year of golf with the 2nd Annual Women’s Golf Pre-Season Training Program at The National, starting March 30th.

This six-week program, led by National Personal Trainer and Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Fitness Instructor, Sarah Stout, and National Assistant Golf Professional, Andy Rumbaugh, will help you to improve your golf-specific physical fitness and help you apply those improvements to every aspect of your game.

PROGRAM INCLUDES 

The Titleist Performance Institute 16-point physical screen to identify imbalances and weaknesses that are detrimental to your golf swing



Six 30-minute one-on-one sessions with Sarah Stout to improve your specific issues identified by the TPI screen



Six progressive take-home programs given to you each week to continue to correct these imbalances

Six 1-hour group training classes with Sarah Stout, focused on developing golf-specific strength*



Three 1-hour golf clinics** with Andy Rumbaugh, covering everything from driving to putting and how to apply the physical tools you are developing in your fitness sessions

We’re ready to trade in “Cabin Fever” for “Spring Fever” and are pretty sure you’re on board with that trade! The first day of spring is coming up this month (counting down to March 19th) and we can only hope that the cold temperatures are behind us so we can get our golfers back on the course and our members enjoying a glass of wine on the Veranda.

Our team had a very busy month in February with some great member events including Valentine Brunch, Valentine Dinner and our annual Father/Daughter Dance. We also had a good turnout for Trivia Night and hope to plan another one of those events soon.

We hope you’ll stop by the Clubhouse on Thursday, March 5th between 5p-7p to try some of the new wines featured on our Wine Menu.
