Dear Members, With frigid temperatures and a snow-covered course, we’re going to try to heat things up inside the Clubhouse this month with a flurry of activities including one of the most popular events of the year … the Father/Daughter Dance. This year’s dance theme is “Hollywood Premiere” so get ready to walk the red carpet! I’ll be there with my daughter, Lucy, and I hope to see a lot of dad and daughter duos there as well.

We’re rolling out a fun evening of friendly competition at Trivia Night on February 5th so come put your knowledge to the test.

Other events scheduled for this month include Valentine Brunch on February 9th and Valentine Dinner on February 14th. For those of you with young children, you can still have date night on Valentine’s Day since we’re offering our Parents’ Night Out sitter service that evening, too. Dear Members, As we find ourselves in the middle of another Kansas City winter, our work on the golf course continues. The creek restoration project on #17 is about 50% complete. Outside of a few setbacks due to the weather, the project is moving along as planned. A lot of sediment is being removed to bring the creek back to its original size and depth. This will definitely improve water flow and the new liner and rock will dramatically improve the aesthetics of the creek and waterfall feature. See the photos below to see our progress so far.

The maintenance team has also been busy with tree work. The majority of this work has taken place on the left side of the #1 cart path to allow more sunlight and air movement to penetrate the left-hand rough which we hope will improve turf and provide drier conditions. We have also been removing dead trees throughout the course and pruning Sycamore trees, mainly on holes #5 through #8, to improve the appearance and health of these trees. This work will continue through February.

Our snowfall year-to-date is 9 inches. This takes us to half of our annual average of 20 inches! With all of the moisture we have experienced, we are hoping to stay below our average in snowfall.

The Golf Course Maintenance team is looking forward to spring and we can’t wait to see you all on the course as the weather improves!

CART PACKAGES and TRAIL FEES for 2020 Cart Packages for 2020 are $1,600 for individual package; $2,000 for family package. For members with their own personal carts, the 2020 Trail Fee is $950. Fees will be billed in two installments with half charged to your member account in January and the other half charged in February.

STARTING HOLE CHANGED

Throughout the winter, all play at The National will start on Hole #10 instead of Hole #1. This will allow play to begin earlier with the morning frost often encountered on Hole #1.

PLAY 7 DAYS A WEEK

Through spring 2020, The National Golf Course will remain closed on Mondays; however, National Golf members may play at The Deuce for $25 per person (including carts) with tee times starting at 9a. Please call The Deuce Golf Shop for tee times: 816.505.0650.

Bring your guests out to play any day in February and enjoy special guest fees all day long! National Golf members may bring guests to play for only $50 each!

REGISTRATION OPEN

Register now through February 15th The White Alloe, our premier men’s member/guest event of the year, takes place June 10th through June 13th, 2020.

Registration for this event is now open on ForeTees, through February 15th.

The registration fee is $1,400 per team (plus tax) with $700 charged to your member account in February and the remaining $700 charged in May. Any teams registered after February 15th will be placed on the Alternate List. Your guest’s name and GHIN number must be provided in ForeTees to be considered registered.

The month of February brings with it one of our favorite occasions to celebrate with food, wine and spirits! It’s our annual Valentine Dinner on February 14th, offering a delectable menu and the opportunity to avoid crowds and long waits on what should be a romantic, relaxing evening. Spend the holiday with us and bring the kids as we are offering our Parents’ Night Out sitter service. You’ll have a quiet dinner downstairs while professional sitters feed and entertain the kids upstairs in the Clubhouse.

Ladies’ Tencap League registration starts February 15th The Tencap Ladies’ Tennis League offers a team format and social opportunity for friends to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow tennis lovers (plus get exercise and sunshine) as they compete together for the Club.
