Teachers: what you need to know about children in care
The Five Rivers National Youth Council have created a film to explain some of the issues that looked after children experience while attending mainstream education.
“It’s hard to imagine some of the things we go through and therefore it’s difficult for teachers to know how best to deal with us.” We made this film to give you an insight into the experiences that children living in care have when they are in school. Within the film we talk to care leavers and experts in the field.

“Care experienced young people’s education should be valued, supported and nurtured. The impact of entering the system and all that comes with it can not be underestimated. This is why we need kind, consistent, compassionate individuals who will work with care experienced children and young people in their networks to #BeTheDifference.”

“I believe that this film is extremely important as so many children in care are struggling at school. This will help their teachers understand what they are going through and how to properly support them.”
