Over the past decade, there has been a societal shift towards degrading masculinity – deeming all forms as toxic and a hindrance to the safety of society. Whilst extreme forms of toxic masculinity may fit the description of being a net negative to society – the same can be said when the pendulum swings too far in the opposite direction. Against the World celebrates traditional masculinity and pushes back against the worldly views of men being influenced to minimise their male traits to conform to current societal pressures.
Inspired by Kenzo’s design sensibilities with colour and form whilst utilising Henrik Vibskov’s design approach of utilising music and artistry to inform conceptual decisions, this collection incorporates loose forms coupled with indigo dye and contrast colour to communicate holding onto traditional societal values in a contemporary environment. This notion is reinforced through the use of traditional and natural suiting materials – wool and silk.
