Developer assesses habitat baseline value of site and habitat units required to achieve a 10% net gain using the Defra Biodiversity Metric.

Using The Green Offset Platform the developer identifies land suitable for delivery of offsite compensatory habitat to achieve the net gain required by planning.

Developer initiates enquiry with a landowner through The Green Offset platform to discuss biodiversity offsetting e.g. arable reversion to grassland.

Following initial discussion, if both parties are happy to proceed, the developer instructs an ecological assessment of the land to determine the habitat offsetting potential and produce a management plan to achieve the required offset. The proposal is reviewed by the landowner and any amendments to optimise it from a landownership perspective discussed.

Developer and Landowner negotiate commercial terms for delivery of a biodiversity offset for 30 years.
