Rev. Elations In my first months of my ministry here, I led an extraordinary number of memorial services, but not a single child dedication. So let me be proactive. I do child dedications. Generally we do not perform baptisms here. Many of us were baptized with the belief that our original sinfulness was washed away with the baptismal water. Unitarians, however, have never been keen on the notion of human depravity. Instead, we recognize the miracle of each child. In the dedication not only do we name that miracle, but also the responsibility of parents (and perhaps grandparents and godparents) to nurture that miracle. ...we recognize the miracle of each child. and to nurture the spiritual development of each child. We live in difficult times. There is discord not only in distant lands, but also in Washington. The gap between the haves and have-nots increases daily, and established patterns of civility no longer hold. We need to be reminded of the sanctity of each human life and of our shared responsibility to nurture that sanctity. Blessings and love, Frank
