Sometimes in this life, it is certainly hard to be thankful. You may be in the midst of loss, or of job uncertainties, or any number of things that make you anxious. You may be in the “eye of the storm,” and anxious about many things. There is a song out on Christian radio right now that says; “In the eye of the storm, You remain in control. In the middle of the war, You guard my soul. You alone are the anchor when my sails are torn. Your love surrounds me in the eye of the storm.” Max Lucado, is his book, “In The Eye of The Storm” wrote the following:
The Fine Art of Being Led “Cry of My Heart”
This next week is Thanksgiving, (yes, it is here already, which means Christmas is not far behind) so we find ourselves, hopefully, thinking about all that we have to be thankful for. For some of us, it is easy, and for others, circumstances make it harder to think in terms of what we are thankful for. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us to “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I remember reading a funny story about giving thanks. The author was trying to give his readers something to be thankful for regardless of all that happens to us. After giving many good reasons, he finally said; “And if you still can’t think of something to be thankful for, be thankful that God put your nose on right side up. If He had put it on upside down, when you sneezed, you would blow your thankless head off!”
Chippie the parakeet never saw it coming. One second he was peacefully perched in his cage. The next he was sucked in, washed up, and blown over. The problems began when Chippie’s owner decided to clean Chippie’s cage with a vacuum cleaner. She removed the attachment from the end of the hose and stuck it in the cage. The phone rang, and she turned to pick it up. She’d barely said “hello” when “sssopp!” Chippie got sucked in. The bird owner gasped, put down the phone, turned off the vacuum, and opened the bag. There was Chippie – still alive, but stunned. Since the bird was covered with dust and soot, she grabbed him and raced to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and held Chippie under the running water. Then, realizing that Chippie was soaked and shivering, she did what any compassionate bird owner would do . . . she reached for the hair dryer and blasted the pet with hot air. Poor Chippie never knew what hit him. A few days after the trauma, the reporter who’d initially written about the event contacted Chippie’s owner to see how the bird was recovering. continued
