Vintage The 2018 vintage was as close to perfect as a vineyard manager could wish for.

We enjoyed just short of ten idyllic weeks filled with warm, dry days, developing beautifully ripe grapes. These pristine conditions allowed us to choose the perfect time to pick without fear of overripening or bad weather, which resulted in an impeccable balance of rich fruit flavors and soft structure. The relaxed spirit of this stress-free year is palpable with each sip of our Cabernet Sauvignon.

Region Rattlesnake Hills AVA is a small sub-region of Washington’s famed Columbia Valley AVA. The Cascade and Rattlesnake Hills mountain ranges protect the region from damaging rains and winter storms, creating warm, temperate conditions despite its high elevation. This area is superb for Cabernet Sauvignon, which buds late in the spring and ripens long into autumn, requiring a longer “hang time” than other varieties. Cabernet’s from here are known for exceptional balance and flavor concentration featuring black cherry, cassis and herbal characteristics.

Tasting notes Our Cabernet Sauvignon reveals layers of nuanced complexity with each swirl. On the nose, enchanting aromas of sweet tobacco and leather live beneath ripe blackcurrant and hints of soy sauce. The first taste reveals juicy blackberry flavors, followed by an assemblage of decadent dark fruit supported by muscular tannins and smooth, balanced acidity. The finish is dry, lingering with notes of baking spice and toasted oak that leave you craving your next sip.

Winemaking The delicious potential of this harvest was evident with the first pressing as we gazed at our reflections in a richly colored, nearly opaque juice. Throughout a two-week-long fermentation, our winemakers monitored temperatures and skin contact closely, eager to withdraw every ounce of opulence. Prior to bottling, the wine rested for a generous time on oak before finally sealing the cork on what will be remembered as a stunning vintage for Washington Cabernet.
