Amit Shah on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of areas affected by cyclone Biparjoy in Gujarat’s Kutch district.

Shah landed at Kutch district headquarters

Bhuj in a chopper and conducted an aerial survey of Jakhau, which bore the brunt of the powerful cyclone on Thursday night. He was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendera Patel.

The Union Minster visited the Mandvi subdistrict hospital and met injured people and pregnant women who were shifted from coastal villages hit by the cyclone, which had made landfall near the Jakhau port.

Shah also visited a farm near Mandvi to assess the damage caused to crops and interacted with farmers.

The weather system, which hit the landmass near Jakhau port as a very severe cyclonic storm on Thursday evening, turned into a deep depression and will further lose steam to become a depression, the IMD said in its latest update. Home Minister Amit Shah visited the cyclone-affected areas of Jakhau and Mandvi in Gujarat to take stock of the relief operation.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said “not only nuts and bolts”, but BrahMos missiles, drones and electronic warfare systems will also be manufactured and assembled in the Uttar Pradesh defence corridor.

The Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) is an aspirational project that intends to reduce the dependence of the Indian aerospace and the defence sectors on foreign suppliers.

“What is important is that in the UP defence corridor, not only nuts and bolts or spare parts will be manufactured, (but) drones, UAVs, electronic warfare (systems), aircraft and BrahMos missiles will also be manufactured and assembled,” Singh said.

The Indian Army rescued about 3,500 tourists who were stranded at Chungthang in North Sikkim due to landslides and roadblocks, said an official release on Saturday.

Heavy rains were witnessed in Lachen, Lachung and Chungthang valleys on Friday.

“Over 2000 tourists have been rescued till 3 pm on June 17, 2023. Efforts are on to restore the road connectivity, while the evacuation of tourists would continue,” it read.

“Troops of Trishakti Corps, Indian Army and personnel of Border Roads Organisation swung into action and worked overnight in heavy rains and inclement weather to create a temporary crossing over the flash flood area,” the release stated.

Hm Meets People Admitted In The Mandvi Hospital

Kutch: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday visited Mandvi Civil Hospital and met the people admitted there after being affected by Cyclone Biparjoy. Shah also met the people of Kathda village in Mandvi. Earlier, Shah conducted an aerial survey of areas affected due to cyclone. Later, Shah held a review meeting with CM Patel and senior officers. Cyclone Biparjoy, which originated in the Arabian Sea and swept across the west coast of India, made landfall on Thursday night north of the Jakhau Port in Kutch. The cyclone weakened into a ‘deep depression’ and is further expected to weaken into a ‘depression’ in the next 12 hours, IMD said.
