Third annual sale. It seems as though it’s all raced by and I’m trying to keep up. I had a friend ask me ‘ if I thought I’d be this far with this this much time having passed?’ I had to answer truthfully ‘no’. And to be perfectly honest with you folks, I’ve got a long road ahead as well.

With the drought everyone experienced this year, some hard decisions had to be made. A lot had herd reductions and even dispersed. Really it came down to ones timing ultimately. As hard as that is, and not downplayed in any way, I think the even harder choice is to keep the cows. For our operation it meant spending tens of thousands of extra dollars buying feed to support not only a herd but a dream. We believe in these cattle. We believe in this way of life. So we made the hard decisions and kept going. We are thankful for all of you, and that you have had to make the same or similar decisions.

Again this year we are doing free wintering. We feel it’s important to offer that to you when you put confidence in us to buy your bulls this early. We feel that growing the bulls early gives them the extra nutrients they need and allows us to have them pasture ready so that they get to work but don’t have to go to the gym first. Our goal is for you to be looking forward to how your purchase has developed and then for us to meet or even exceed those expectations.

Welcome to the Third Annual Southern Angus Farms bull Sale. It is with great pleasure that we are once again working with Chad and his family on this outstanding set of yearling and two year old bulls. New for this year you will see that the sale has been moved to the farm, the bulls will be in their home environment and the mothers will be onsite for viewing. These bulls have been bred and then raised with the commercial cattlemen in mind. Low birth, high growth bulls that are developed to go out and work. These bulls are sound in their makeup, good footed with lots of natural muscle and thickness. The Southern Angus cowherd is excellent footed, good uddered, low management, highly functional cows. These are the type of cows that you want your next herd sire to be mothered by. These cows bred to the sires that Chad has selected for use in his herd have created the bulls you see here on offer. So please bid and buy with confidence as these bulls will go out and work.

Chad has also graciously donated a heifer from the top of his replacement pen and will be donating all proceeds to the children’s hospital.

Southern Angus worked with a nutritionist to develop a total mix ration with a supplement to provide extra protein to grow the bulls but not have them over fat.

Bull warranty We are pleased to offer this year a bull warranty that can be purchased at the time of sale. Buying a bull is a big investment for your ranch and we want to make sure you are covered. Accidents can happen so here is our proposal.

At time of settlement at sale, warranty can be purchased for 11% of purchase price of the animal. This warranty covers you for injury and death that happens during accepted cattle handling practices and breeding conditions during wintering at our ranch as well as the first breeding season that you use the bull.

In the event you need to make a claim notify Chad as soon as possible. A vet report will be required for claim purposes.

Settlement will be made in form of a replacement bull of equal value if available or a sale credit to next years sale. Value of settlement is less salvage when possible.

Mistreatment, mismanagement or neglect of animal is a void of this warranty.

Terms & Conditions TERMS & CONDITIONS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. First Class Cattle Marketing reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, First Class Cattle Marketing reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, First Class Cattle Marketing and sale staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and/or who has not made prior credit arrangements prior to the sale with the owners and/or Sale Management.

EXCHANGE Foreign exchange rates will be announced at the beginning of the sale.

BID Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

DISPUTES In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

PURCHASER’S RISK Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

ANNOUNCEMENTS from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRY The proper Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

SHIPPING Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but Sale Management or Seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instruction when making settlement.

GUARANTEE All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal.

EXCEPTION TO GUARANTEE In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian breed Association guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze.

HEALTH It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. First Class Cattle Marketing assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

ACCIDENTS Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property.

RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both.

Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto.

This summer we had a few members of the community make use of the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary. We wanted to do something to show our support to those families and make a difference so we have put this heifer calf up for grabs with all proceeds being donated to the Children’s Hospital.

She is a good one! She hasn’t seen any supplemental grain yet and is being raised as the rest of our heifers. She is stylish and easy fleshing. I know she’s a good one because we have a full sister in the herd calving this January.

As for the name, I think it speaks for itself and I haven’t had any complaints yet! I’m sure the heifer is somewhat embarrassed though having the Trudeau name any where around her since she will be very thrifty and feed efficient unlike the PM.

Donation Heifer Auction Procedure

1. The final bid in each round will denote the amount of that bidder’s donation.

Example:

Round 1: Final Bid is $300 to John Doe. John’s donation is $300

Round 2: Final bid is $250 to Tom Jones. Tom’s Donation is $250

Round 3: The female is re-auctioned until no further bids are received at the low of $10 2. Each $10 purchased (donated) represents one chance in the final draw, e.g. John Doe has 30 chances, Tom Jones has 25 chances and so on down the scale to the final $10 donation worth one chance each.

3. One ticket for every $10, bearing the contributor’s name will be put into the draw barrel.

4. At the end of the sale, one ticket will be drawn with that person winning the heifer.

I liked this calf all the way along. He just has a bit more style in how he moves and holds himself. He is doing 4.31 pounds per day so is a treat to feed! His mother is a Southern Kruggerand 16h daughter and maybe that’s part of the reason he stuck out to me.

This Barstow Bankroll son came out of nowhere! We needed a bull for the heifers so we decided to use him. He went out at around 1200 pounds and came back in at 1600 pounds and everything we saw him breed was in calf! He gets fat so easy that he is a pleasure to feed because it doesn’t take much. We are seeing the same look and quality in his progeny. In the pasture he is the hardest working bull I have seen. Stays with the cow until she is settled and makes sure to check all the cows frequently. He doesn’t rest by the water when there is work to be done.
