TRAINING Rochester USAR Drill
On June 24, 2021, the Rochester Fire Department held a large-scale Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) drill at a home on Dr. Samuel McRee Way. Rochester is the only local USAR team in the area and every three years the department holds a full operation readiness program. Rochester’s USAR team is composed of firefighters from all shifts so a large drill like this allows them to all come together and train. “They might not work with each other day in and day out, but they come together because they know their roles and, with

strong leadership and strong management, we’re testing the system and allowing them to work together and achieve our objective,” said Captain Edward Tracey, who was running the drill. The drill simulated a car that had crashed into a home, resulting in multiple collapses throughout the home, trapping victims inside in numerous different places. - Fire News photos by PuckStopperPhotography.com
