Remembering Lincoln Quappe

Lincoln Quappe, who died in the WTC attacks, was a lifelong resident of Brookhaven Hamlet and lived in Sayville. He was a 16-year member of the FDNY and was with Rescue 2, when the attacks occurred. When he joined the FDNY he was assigned to Ladder 123, before moving to Rescue 2. Quappe was also a Life Member of the Brookhaven Fire Department with over 20 years of service, following in the footstps of his father, Charles Quappe, who was a member of the Brookhaven Fire Department from 19711981. Lincoln joined the Brookhaven Fire Department on June 2, 1981, and was an exceptional firefighter, receiving many awards including: the BHFD Rookie of the Year in 1982, the BHFD Fireman of the Year in 1984 and the Suffolk County Fireman of the Year in 1985. During his time in the BHFD, Lincoln was very involved in training and was named Training Officer in 1994, and helped to produce some of the best volunteer FFs many of whom are still active today. Lincoln was also the department chef, and driver of the Rescue Truck out of Headquarters 5-3-3 for many years. His experience, knowledge, and calm attitude were great assets at any emergency scene. Any chief who saw Lincoln walking up to the scene knew things were going to go smoothly. The Brookhaven Fire Department renamed its Rookie of the Year award the Lincoln Quappe Rookie of the Year Award, to honor Lincoln.
