Keynote Address: “The Anatomy of a Collapse –How I Survived”

EMT/Firefighter John McMaster, Baltimore City (MD) F.D.

Thursday, June 5 – 2:00 –3:00 p.m. @ The Oncenter Ballroom

Open to all attendees.

NYSAFC FIRE 2025 9/11

Memorial Stair Climb & Walk

Friday, June 6 – 7:00 a.m. (Check-In & On-Site Registration) – 8:00 a.m. (Climb Begins) @ Upstate Medical Arena at The Oncenter War Memorial

Special registration required. Open to all attendees and the public.

On January 24, 2022, a three-story row home collapsed trapping four members of the Baltimore City Fire Department. Unfortunately, Lieutenant Kelsey Sadler (E14), Firefighter/Paramedic Kenneth Lacayo (E14), and Lieutenant Paul Butrim (T23) died as a result of the collapse. EMT/Firefighter John McMaster was the only survivor. He will share how skip breathing and the efforts of his brothers and sisters saved his life. McMaster joined the BFD in 2015 and was assigned to Engine Co. 36, where he was taught skip breathing as a probationary firefighter. After two years, he transferred to Engine Co. 14, where he was serving on the morning of January 24, 2022, when Box 2-2-55-10 was struck out.

Sponsored by:

Show others that you will never forget the 343 members of the FDNY who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11 by participating in this year’s climb and walk, which will be held at The Oncenter War Memorial – adjacent to the exhibit hall. Registration is $35 (climb) and $10 (juniors 17 and under). New for 2025 – if you can’t participate in the climb but are attending the expo, stop by the NFFF booth in The Oncenter Lobby (Exhibit Space 6) to register to participate in our walk ($20). You’ll receive an honor badge and challenge coin, walk the exhibit floor on June 5-7 to show your support, then ring the bell to honor your FDNY brother. This climb benefits the NFFF and FDNY Counseling Services Unit. Turnout gear is not required - anyone can participate in casual attire.

Volunteer Chiefs Roundtable Discussion

Friday, June 6 – 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. @ The Oncenter Rooms C-E

Open to all attendees.

The NYSAFC Volunteer Chiefs Committee will be moderating a roundtable discussion at FIRE 2025! Join in what’s sure to be a lively conversation on current issues, policies, procedures, and a variety of other topics impacting the volunteer fire service today. Pick the brains of our committee members and other attendees – your problems may not be as unique as you think!

FIRE 2025 Block Party

Friday, June 6 – 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. @ Marriott Syracuse Downtown (South Warren Street)

Open to all attendees and the public. Enjoy a night of live music, catch up with old friends, and connect with other conference attendees at our annual celebration! Food, refreshments, and adult beverages will be available. Rain or shine!
