My name is Grace and I long for my next adventure away from my New York home high in the sky.

I am forever daydreaming of my secret garden waiting for me to explore.

I love the sound of the leaves and dunking my net in the pond.

BabyGap Fall 2017 toddler girl 1-5yrs

The key inspiration for this Fall 2017 collection was the British film The Secret Garden. The main character Mary went on an adventure, and discovered a locked garden with her feathery friend, a robin.

Adventure at every turn, the young Grace has plenty to discover with her mum in her own secret garden inside the New York neighbourhood park. The textures will be in cosy knits and woollen tights to keep little Grace warm perfect for the Fall temperatures and all day exploring. The influence for colour and prints comes from the magnificent fall treasure and wildlife Grace discovers.

The fall toddler girl collection has all the iconic American pieces; the dungarees and logo sweatshirts, denim jackets and will include Grace’s first jeans.

The jeans will become her essential piece perfect for her exploring. They will hold her past adventures through the muddy knees and perfect for tucking into wellies when dunking her net in the pond.

If you look the right way, you can see that the whole world is a garden.

from what i found instore, I wanted to design something that was easy for a child to get on and be not restricted when playing.

pockets for child to put their hands in to keep warm

for this dungaree development i visited instore and looked at the finer detailing on the fastenings to get an idea of positioning for kidswear and standard babygap wording on the buttons.

styling instore encouraged layering for kidswear - thick tights with a jumper, dress, long sleeved top and jacket

When speaking to a member of Gap Kids staff, I asked which styles and shapes were popular for toddler girls and she said every season a double layer dress is in each collection. I decided I would design my own version on this popular shape.
