PRESIDENT OF FLCC
Welcome to the Fifty-Seventh Commencement of Finger Lakes Community College! We are glad you have joined us today with your family and friends. It is so important to mark milestones in our lives. Earning a degree or certificate takes planning, hard work and determination to keep going when faced with the challenges life throws in our way.
FLCC alumni often tell us that accomplishing their educational goals gave them confidence to tackle another goal, and then another. They also identify the people, the classes or the experiences that had the greatest impact on their success or helped determine the next steps they took in their educational or career journey.
At the end of today’s ceremony, you will participate in the traditional FLCC honor guard. Faculty and staff will line the walkway to the reception area for handshakes, hugs and high-fives. It is not farewell, however. We hope you will stay in touch by emailing your professors with news, submitting a class note to the Laker alumni magazine, and visiting the main campus for alumni, athletic and cultural events.

About Today’s Keynote Speaker
THE HONORABLE LATOYA S. LEE, ROCHESTER CITY COURT JUDGE
FLCC alumna LaToya Lee grew up in Rochester and enrolled at FLCC after graduation from John Marshall High School. She earned an associate degree in paralegal studies in 2003 and continued her education at Morgan State University in Maryland, then Hilbert College in Hamburg, near Buffalo. LaToya received a bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies from Hilbert. She graduated cum laude with her juris doctor (J.D.) degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan.
After passing the bar exam, LaToya worked as a mortgage foreclosure defense attorney with the Empire Justice Center. She had a strong desire to work in criminal law, however, and took a position with the Monroe County Public Defender’s Office.
After four years as an assistant public defender, she joined the city of Rochester as a traffic prosecutor, then became a judicial law clerk. In 2021, LaToya applied for a mayoral appointment when a judgeship vacancy opened between election cycles. Rochester Mayor Malik Evans appointed her in February 2022, and she was elected to a 10-year term the following fall.

A photographer from GradImages will take a photo of each graduate in front of the backdrop on stage. Within 7 days, graduates will receive proofs and an order form by email or postal mail. Families may take their own photos and video from the designated area to the left of graduate seating as you face the stage. Please keep your time in the photo area brief so all families can capture this moment.
Reception
A reception, sponsored by AVI Fresh, for graduates and their families will be held immediately after the ceremony in the large tent to the left of the stage. In the event of severe weather, the reception will be moved to the Finger Lakes Café on the second floor of the Student Center.
