FINGER LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE
FIFTY-EIGHTH COMMENCEMENT
May 21, 2026
Canandaigua, NY
A Message to Our Graduates from DR. ROBERT K.
NYE, President of FLCC
Welcome to the Fifty-Eighth Commencement of Finger Lakes Community College! We are glad you have joined us today with your family and friends. It is important to mark milestones in our lives. Earning a degree or certificate takes planning, hard work and determination.
I am looking forward to our keynote speaker, Chet Fery, who walked in your shoes more than 50 years ago. He graduated at a tumultuous time in U.S. history the year of the Kent State shooting and the Apollo 13 near disaster.
Today, Chet is known as The Bread Man for making and giving away fresh bread as an act of kindness. As a motivational speaker, he offers a message of hope and healing. Chet is a great reminder that external forces do not have to shape our outlook and that our efforts to improve our lives and the lives of those around us do have an impact.
We look forward to hearing about your own impact in the world as you move on to new adventures in life. Please stay in touch. Once a Laker, always a Laker. Congratulations to the Class of 2026!
Welcome, FLCC Alumni
Today’s graduates are now members of the FLCC Alumni Association and gain alumni benefits. We encourage you to volunteer, support a scholarship fund, and share your FLCC story. Learn more at flcc.edu/alumni-association.
About Today’s Keynote Speaker
CHET FERY ’70, Founder of Bread Time Stories and More
Chet Fery ’70 grew up in Buffalo and attended Bishop Ryan High School. He is proud to be a “Storefront Pioneer,” the nickname for those who graduated before the main campus opened in 1975. He moved on to SUNY Brockport, earned his undergraduate degree in secondary education and graduate degrees in developmental studies, counselor education, and school administration.
He worked in public education for over 33 years and was a trailblazer in the education of special needs students. He was active in the design and implementation of innovative instructional programs. He held the position of teacher, work-study coordinator, vocational counselor, instructional specialist, program supervisor, program director, and pupil service administrator.
Chet founded Bread Time Stories and More to promote random acts of kindness. He describes himself as an amateur baker, storyteller, motivational speaker, author, and “kindness coach.” He presents to audiences of all ages across the country on the power of kindness and has baked and given away over 150,000 loaves of bread. Chet and his wife, Marina, reside in Brockport and recently became grandparents.
