Lisa Altman-

A message from the Execu琀ve Director, I can’t believe September is almost here. Where did the summer go? We sure have had our ups and downs over the past few months. I am hopeful folks feel that there have been more ups than downs. We have our fair share of encounters with COVID, but thankfully were able to re open the dining room to guests. We have shared the loss of some near and dear residents and have welcomed some new residents to all areas of our community. We are looking forward to resuming the annual resident and sta昀 picnic and 昀nding our way and de昀ning the “new normal.”

Stay healthy, enjoy all that Tudor Oaks has to o昀er and know that my door is always open.

Thank you,

I am approaching the one year mark in my new role at Tudor Oaks and am s琀ll as enthusias琀c and happy as I was at this 琀me last year. I have implemented some new prac琀ces, onboarded some new members to the leadership team and have had the opportunity to get to know many of the residents. I have made some decisions that were well received by most and have made some mistakes that were challenging to admit to. Overall, I have felt very supported in my posi琀on from residents as well as families and sta昀. There have been some challenges and some occasions where my decisions or answers haven’t been well received but I will con琀nue to keep the best interest of the en琀rety of our community as the basis of those answers and decisions.

Tudor Oaks First Annual Bocce Ball Tournament is well underway on the Bocce Ball court with one team having a perfect record and six teams registering at least one loss. There are still 2 games to be played so a winner can not be determined until the 昀nal game is played. We were happy to have residents from age 75 to 93 participating and that could make accommodations for those needing walkers or wheelchairs. Thanks to Ron Anderson for all the pictures he took of our games. We love seeing ourselves on the bulletin board and in the Acorn. Life is a good_____ on the Bocce Ball court!

Submissions are due on the 15th of each month for the following month’s edition and can be given to a Lifestyle staff member or in the Poplar Lifestyle Room on top of the filing cabinet is a box (labeled Acorn) to place article. The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, "Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great. I would recommend it very highly."

"Do you mean a rose?" "Yes, that's the one," replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, "Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?"

An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.

The other man said, "What is the name of the restaurant?" The first man thought and thought and finally said, "What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love? You know... the one that's red and has thorns."

Poem by Mary Oliver

When I Am Among the Trees

When I am among the trees, especially the willows and the honey locust, equally the beech, the oaks and the pines, they give off such hints of gladness. I would almost say that they save me, and daily. I am so distant from the hope of myself, in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the world but walk slowly, and bow often. Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say, “and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.”
