SUNDAY

For anyone who will take the time to listen, Carol Whelan has a story to tell! Growing up in West Allis, Carol grew up with two younger brothers, Roger and Richard, under the care of their parents, Arthur (Art) and Irene Patten. Arthur worked at Allis Chalmers Plant, while Irene worked at Gimbels department store in her later years. Carol went to work as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital and West Allis Hospital. Seeing as Carol has always loved children, it comes as a surprise to no one that she worked in the pediatrics department of these hospitals. Carol kept up her career until retiring at the age of sixty-one
As far as family goes, Carol couldn’t ask for more! She met her late husband, John Whelan, over lunch at college, when they were introduced by a m utual best friend. Together, they had a daughter, Julie, and a son, Daniel. Togeth er, they went on a great number of camping trips all over the country including Yellowst one, California, and Florida! Carol recalls how her friends would cry “You are going AGAIN?” whenever they would announce their next camping trip. When asked which trip w as her favorite, she recalls that they were all highly well-beloved, although South Dakota comes to mind. Nowadays, Carol’s life of adventure has been traded in for hand s of bridge and the occasional novel, as well as burning through any jigsaw puzzle she can get her hands on!

Inspirational Moment
Mary Ann Link was a long-time resident who passed away recently. One of the things that I loved most about her is that she had one the coolest sayings she would reply to me any time I ask her how she is doing. She will say to me that “I’m doing better than I deserve.” Then, she’ll say that when she wakes up in the morning that she’s determined to have a good day not matter what. I believe she could make that declaration because she knew that no matter what the day may bring her way, God is still good! It is easy to get stuck on the negative things that come our way. But, God grace gives us the ability to continue on. Because of God’s abundance of love for us, we are doing better than we deserve. If I had to put my own spin on Mary Ann’s saying, I believe it would be the tag line that’s on all of my emails: “Life isn’t always fair but God is always faithful.” (Author, Anonymous)
As always….God loves you, so do I and there’s nothing you can do about it!
Blessings, Pastor Michelle

WAY TO GO WENDY BARTZ

Most afternoons the pool is pretty quiet but lately there has been a consistent visitor - Wendy Bartz, Maintenance Supervisor! I wanted to recognize Wendy’s hard work and dedication to her health. She has lost 49 pounds so far! You Go Girl! Wendy joined weight watchers and started her exercise program 8 months ago. She said her favorite snack used to be candy and now it is nuts or yogurt. Her greatest joy thus far in her weight loss journey was when she had to go shopping! Her pants kept falling down! (Yes I would say that would be a problem!) Wendy also said the hardest part has been learning what to eat and what not to eat! I am sharing this story in hopes it motivates someone who may want to join Wendy on her new health journey! Please give her a High Five when you see her! Way to Go Wendy!
