WOW! Elegant….Over the Top….were the comments from Tudor Oaks residents about our New Year’s celebra琀on! The planning for the Silver and Gold Gala began in July for a sit- down dinner for the New Year’s Eve Celebra琀on. In the past, we have had a bu昀et , entertainment and colorful decora琀ons. This year, we had a sit-down dinner prepared by our Culinary Services Department. Dining room employee Brenda helped the residents plan and make table decora琀ons, while Stephen arranged for nine of our student servers to help with dining room set-up and serving of the meal. The Maintenance Department helped with rearranging the dining room and the Olive Wood Theatre. Coopera琀on from the administra琀on, our service departments and the resident helpers is what made this celebra琀on possible! On New Year's Day the IL Ac琀vi琀es commi琀ee hosted a Donuts, Co昀ee and Juice Breakfast in the OWT. Ron Anderson and Bob Frey presented a DVD show of 2023 past events.

Resident Highlight: Donna Mae Murphy Donna Mae Murphy grew up in the town of Greenfield, Wisconsin. Her mother worked as a buyer of fine china plates for the Boston Store and her father was a carpenter with his own construction business. Donna was educated at Johnson Grade School in New Berlin, followed by West Milwaukee High and, finally, Adella Blue School of Cosmetic Art. From there, she went on to her first job: Larry’s Beauty Shop in downtown Milwaukee, where she worked as a beautician. This not being her favorite endeavor, she left after four months and took on a similar position at Paul’s in Downtown Milwaukee. She would then go on to a different path at Price & Swanson’s as a florist, which she quite enjoyed! However, it was finally at Edna’s Styling in West Allis where she would settle down. After her husband retired early from his work, she soon did the same. When it comes to hobbies, Donna is also a lover of cross-country skiing, ice-skating, reading, oil painting, sewing, and trivia! Growing up, she had several pets, including a Pomeranian mix which she kept for fifteen years. After she married her husband Robert, they got a bird and a poodle mix named Louie, who lived with them for twenty-two fun-filled years! She also had two cats and a tortoise, the latter of which lived for close to twenty years!

Not one to shy away from a good adventure, Donna’s favorite vacations have included trips to Canada, Tennessee and Mexico. Mexico, she confirms, was her favorite. “I could live there,” she declared, attributing these feelings to the good weather, particularly by the ocean. She stands firmly that she would have to live by the water, given the chance. From her places in the cosmetic world, florist market, and adventuring, Donna has come to settle in Tudor Oaks, and we are all the more blessed to have her.

Update on Recycling Guidelines for Tudor Oaks IL Residents February 2024

If you don’t have this 18-page document, please request a copy from Jane Goessl, Marketing Director, 414-525-6411 or stop in her office near the front entrance. Copies were in the mail room for 6 months. Newer residents have it in their Orientation Binder. There is also a DVD presentation in our library that the Recycling Team put together for your viewing. Our biggest offender continues to be large PLASTIC BAGS that are used to collect recyclables in your apartment to take down to the Recycling Room and left in one of the recycling bins. If you don’t have time to empty the bag and sort its contents into the proper bins or chute, please THROW the whole bag down the chute. No one will re-sort it for you. PLASTIC BAGS are never ever recyclable!!! We have one small bin for PLASTIC BAGS ONLY in each Recycling Room that a resident empties several times a week. These bags are now being recycled through a local church that a different resident belongs to. In 2023, we were able to recycle 85 large, fully packed bags of your Recycled Bags through this worthwhile project. So emptied, clean and dry plastic bags go in that bin or down the chute. See p.13. Not all paper is recyclable…see p.6 & 8. Put shredded paper in a plastic bag and down the chute. Personal checks can go in the Shred-It big Box behind the Receptionist Desk. Deli take-out paper containers, no matter how clean, are NOT recyclable at GFL. Remove labels from cans, jars, coke bottles, etc. Most labels can be removed by sliding a knife under them. Remove all food/contents and wash/rinse. Greasy, oily food/vaseline containers go down the chute. Throw a jar of unused oil down the chute…do not empty in your sink. Remember: WHEN IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT! When Muskego hired GFL (Green For Life) for their garbage and recycling, they follow GFL’s guidelines, not Waukesha County. https://gflenv.com/our-services/for-home/ residential-solid-waste/recycling-collection/acceptable-materials/ Questions to residents Sandy Snyder or Marge Schell 414-377-9113 or
