SAAVY TUDOR OAKS RESIDENTS PLASTIC BAG RECYLCLING UPDATE

Thank you Tudor Oaks residents for embracing the plas琀c bag recycling program! Each Recycling Room has a marked white bin in it for collec琀ng all types of plas琀c bags.

Why this special e昀ort? Plas琀c bags tend to tangle the sor琀ng equipment at recycling sor琀ng facili琀es. This causes a stop in the 昀ow of the conveyor equipment which must be cleaned out before con琀nuing the sor琀ng of all the other recyclable items (such as the items in our large blue bins).

By removing as many plas琀c bags as possible from this conveyor sor琀ng system, we are helping to keep the recycling sor琀ng equipment free of “tanglers” and hence, working smoothly.

Please con琀nue to place your plas琀c bags in those white bins in each Recycling Room. Because of your e昀orts, since the beginning of this year, we have taken 44 LARGE plas琀c bags 昀lled with your smaller plas琀c bags to various collec琀on places in the area to be recycled.

THANK YOU SAVVY TUDOR OAKS RECYCLERS. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

Therapy Announcement: Free balance assessments with our new … VSTBalance, an automated fall-risk assessment tool that u琀lizes Ar琀昀cial Intelligence with machine vision to objec琀vely iden琀fy de昀cits in balance, gait and func琀on. Come check it out on Thursday, August 10 from 2:00-3:00pm in the Olive Wood Theater.

A N A New Diet: ew A昀er star琀ng a new diet, I altered my drive to work to avoid passing my favorite bakery. I accidentally drove by the bakery this morning and as I approached, there in the window were a host of chocolates, donuts, and cheesecakes. I felt this was no accident, so I prayed…”Lord, it’s up to You. If You want me to have any of those delicious goodies, create a parking place for me directly in front of the bakery.” And sure enough, on the eighth 琀me around the block there it was! God is so good!

Employee Highlight: Samantha Klinko

Our staff member highlight this month is Samantha Klinko.

Samantha has been with Tudor Oaks for 1.5 years as the Human Resource Generalist. She grew up in St. Francis, Wisconsin and is currently living in Muskego. Before joining us at Tudor Oaks, Samantha was an office manager with a hospice company for ten years.

Some of her favorite hobbies include baking and gardening. She also likes to go thrifting and find some great deals. She loves spending time with her family in her free time. Samantha states that her 7-yearold daughter, Kinsley, makes sure that she doesn’t have much

of her own free time. She loves to keep busy with mom. The Klinko’s also have an array of pets at home. They have two dogs (Diesel and Duke), three chickens (Patty, Nugget and Dumpling) and one goldfish (Goldfishy) that keep them busy. Samantha says her dream vacation is to travel to Italy someday.

If you have lunch in the dining room, you have probably met Samantha. She has been known to help serve and keep things moving during lunch service. She is a lady of many hats here at Tudor Oaks. Thank you for being here Samantha!

Resident Highlight: Beth Stuart

Our resident highlight this month is (Joyce) Beth Stuart. Beth was the third daughter of four girls. Beth’s father was a salesman, real estate agent and insurance agent. Before her parents were married her mother taught for a couple of years in a one room schoolhouse. A昀er marriage she was a stay-at-home mom which allowed her to be a volunteer extraordinaire and serve on many commi琀ees. Beth spent her 昀rst nine years in the small town of Reinbeck, Iowa. A昀er that the family moved to Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania for two years, Grand Forks, North Dakota for six years then back to Iowa in the town of Mitchellville just before Beth’s senior year in High School. A昀er gradua琀on Beth a琀ended the University of Northern Iowa where she earned her B.A. in Educa琀on.

Beth met her husband Doug the summer of 1968 right a昀er high school gradua琀on. They were both working nights at a truck stop where Beth was a waitress and Doug took care of the trucks. They were quickly a琀racted to each other and devoted to each other for nearly 50 years. She states they each married the love-of-their lives on July 22, 1972. That summer was a busy summer as Beth graduated from University of Northern Iowa in June, married in July, and her 昀rst teaching posi琀on started in August. Doug and Beth were blessed with two boys, David in 1976 and Adam in 1980. Sadly, Adam passed away in 2016. David and his wife Melinda live in Hales Corners with their children, Lily (19) a sophomore at UW-Stevens Point and Charles (18) a freshman at UW-Madison. Beth says that being a part of their lives is her greatest joy! When David and Adam were young the family lived in Colorado and Idaho where some of their favorite ac琀vi琀es were camping and 昀shing and hun琀ng for the guys. When they moved back to Iowa, they con琀nued their camping. They re琀red in 2012 and moved to Watertown, WI in 2013 where they especially loved to a琀end all of the grandkid’s sports and school ac琀vi琀es.

Beth remembers one of her 昀rst jobs— babysing. She earned $0.35 an hour but a whopping

$0.50 an hour a昀er midnight! Summers during her college years she worked in the Iowa State Auditors Department. She spent 38 years teaching 3rd and 4th grade in Iowa, pre-school in Colorado, and 1st grade in Idaho. When they returned to Iowa, she was a Reading Recovery and Title I teacher for at risk elementary children. A昀er geng her master’s degree Beth spent the last 15 years of her career as a district literacy coordinator and the reading and math specialist for at risk children.

As many of you might know Beth is a wonderful gardener. She enjoys spending 琀me gardening which also leads to canning and freezing the produce. She also loves to bake and cook—we appreciate all the baked goods she has given for our Tudor Oaks bake sales! Beth is a voracious reader and loves a good book. She used to spend a lot of 琀me sewing clothes for the family too. Beth has also traveled to many wonderful places. Her younger sister lived several years in Bogotá, Columbia where she was able to visit her. Doug and Beth vaca琀oned numerous 琀mes to Mexico—Mazatlán, Cancun, and Los Cabos. A favorite vaca琀on was a week in Kauai and a week on the big island Hawaii. Together they also did an Alaskan cruise and enjoyed many bus tours throughout the United States.

Beth moved to Tudor Oaks in 2021. Doug had many serious health concerns which rapidly deteriorated. Keeping him at home became very challenging. Their son David and his wife Melinda encouraged them to consider selling their home and moving to a senior living community. Melinda, who owns Smart Moves, set up several tours for them. She purposely scheduled Tudor Oaks to be last because she knew it would be the best! It was their favorite choice and they put their names on the wai琀ng list in 2019, never expec琀ng it would take two years for their names to be at the top of the list. Unfortunately, Doug did not make it that long, and he passed away July 5, 2020, on his 70th birthday. A昀er living alone for one year Beth was more than ready to become a resident of such a beau琀ful, friendly, caring, and thriving community! We are so happy to have you at Tudor Oaks Beth.
