Tudor Oaks First Annual Bocce Ball Tournament got under way on Tuesday, July 12th with 7 teams par琀cipa琀ng. Twenty-eight residents signed up to be on regular teams and ten residents agreed to be subs琀tutes when needed. The seven-week round robin tournament is playing every Tuesday, 10:30 am, 3:00pm, and 6:30 pm at the Sports Complex (Wayne’s Court) on the Tudor Oaks Campus.

Come any Tuesday to watch and enjoy the comradery, the compe琀琀on, and the fun with your fellow residents.

Be a Tudor Oaks Savvy Recycler CORRECTION to PLASTIC CONTAINERS last month: I apologize that the title ‘PLASTIC CONTAINERS’ was not printed over the picture.

Maintenance no longer re-sorts the recyclables that come in a plastic bag, whether it’s in the Tall Covered Recycling Bin or the Paper Bin. It all gets dumped into the GFL truck. And, when it gets to GFL, the entire plastic bag gets trashed…because “plastic bags are not recyclable.”

So, if you take your recyclables to the Recycling Room in a large plastic bag and choose not to empty it, PLEASE just throw it down the chute:

Only bottles and jars of any color are recyclable. They must be cleaned of all food and liquid waste before being put in the Tall Covered Recycling Bin. Dry if possible. Remove the cap/lid and put that in the Tall Covered Recycling Bin separately.

No-no-no flat glass from windows, mirrors or picture frames.

No ceramics, dishes, drinking glasses or mugs.

At the TO Main Entrance, behind the fireplace, is a box for Goodwill (gently used clothing) and a shoe-sized plastic bin from the Greendale Lions for used eyeglasses and hearing aids.

Introducing “Tudor Notes” We had a suggestion that we add a section to the Acorn to allow residents to have a forum to share information, offer gratitude, offer an opinion, etc. It will be called “Tudor Notes.” We would ask that the written piece be less than 150 words and that the Acorn staff does have the right to edit if necessary—they will reach out to the writer before editing. Submissions are due on the 15th of each month for the following month’s edition and can be given to a Lifestyle staff member or in the Poplar Lifestyle Room on top of the filing cabinet is a box (labeled Acorn) to place article.

Debbie De Debbie bbie & Allis Allison on M Menako enako Debbie Menako joined Tudor Oaks on December 13th, 2021, as a receptionist. Debbie was born in Saint Francis, WI, where she grew up for 14 years along with her five siblings.

Although Debbie spent many years in Oak Creek, she is a Muskego native. Debbie has lived in Muskego for 32 years and calls it her home.

Shortly after Debbie graduated high school, she took some college classes for accounting.

However, Debbie decided to work for her family business in funeral supply, and she stopped taking college classes and went to work for her parents. To your surprise, Debbie worked at her family’s funeral business as a receptionist. Some of her tasks included answering phones, billing, and completing orders. She was the receptionist, and she knew all the ins and outs of her family's company. Debbie enjoyed working for the family business, worked there for 25 years. After that she worked as a cook in the kitchen at an assisted living facility.

Debbie got married in 1977 and has three children, a son and two daughters. Debbie loves spending time with her family and close friends but also has many other interests including baking gardening, sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and watching the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers play! She has been baking for an organization called You Are Special for over 10 years. They help provide various cakes for people in homeless facilities, women's shelters, group homes, domestic violence shelters, etc. in the greater Milwaukee and Waukesha area.

Debbie’s dream vacation is traveling the Caribbean. Debbie wants to travel “somewhere tropical.” She did vacation in Hawaii and loved it.

She owns four pets: three dogs and two cats.

She has a Chi-poo named Roxi, a Min-pin named Finley, a Papillion mix named Charlie, a black cat named Poppy, and a cat named Boots . An interesting fact about Debbie is that her first job was working at McDonald's!

Lucky enough for Debbie, she gets to work with one of her daughters, Allison. Allison Menako has worked in the admissions office here as the marketing coordinator for one year. Allison was born and raised in Muskego. During high school, Allison volunteered at an assisted living facility helping with activities. In fact, her mother was working there at the same time. Within two years they hired Allison to work as an activity assistant. Shortly after, she started working in the kitchen as extra help. Allison graduated from Muskego High School in 2014. Allison went to school at Carroll University for her bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration. After graduating college, she was promoted to an administration assistant position at the same facility, and then to a house manager. Allison worked there for six years before finding her way to Tudor Oaks! Recently, Allison and her boyfriend closed on their first home together in Burlington!

Allison’s interests include boating, exploring various state parks, and trying new supper clubs and wineries. She enjoys going to new greenhouses so that she can add to her collection of over 50 different plants that she already has .

Additionally, her boyfriend's family owns an asphalt racecar, so they travel to different racetracks around the state.

Allison’s dream vacation is “somewhere tropical.” Like mother, like daughter! During college, she had the opportunity to go to Italy for a month and loved her time there. Some of her favorite memories are the beautiful scenery and was the food! Allison has one pet; a golden retriever named Tucker and would have more dogs if she could. Her favorite breed is the dachshund. Stop by to say Hi to Debbie and Allison!!

Resident Highlight: Dorian came in with a “bang” on July 4th, 1928, just two years to the date after her husband George “Buzz” came in with a “bang” on July 4th, 1926. She said they would always get gifts together for the home. Buzz, who she met on a blind date, had quite the humor.

One year he watched his wife mix up seven batches of Christmas cookies all by hand after which he presented her with a mixer for her gift. Another gift she received from him were long underwear for deer hunting while camping in a tent.

Dorian Driggett owned the Driggett Bicycle Store, Schwinn bicycle shop where she was also the bookkeeper.

The Driggett family were snowbirds heading to Big Pine Key, FL every winter for a month as the kids were growing up. They started camping with a Ford van, later upgrading to a Holiday Rambler 5 th Wheeler motor home that even had a bathroom with shower. During the summer months the family would do lots of camping including Mt. Rushmore. Once the children grew up Dorian and Buzz would George and Dorian were married in continue to camp in the Wisconsin 1950 and had six children, including Dells, Branson, and east coast. They two sets of twins. After losing loved 昀shing and boating including Karen at a very early age, she is a cruiser that they went across proud of her grown children Michael Lake Michigan on. Dorian enjoyed a retired 昀re昀ghter and paramedic, bowling for over 20 years and Bruce and Kristin working in HR, traveled to tournaments in almost Denise a retired Deputy Sheriff, and every state.

1995, she continued to travel with Dorian started her career in a bank her church group in Israel, Mexico, but took time off to raise her Ireland, Italy, and Morocco where children. She always wanted to be she even did a little gambling. a nurse, so she went back to school Dorian would later spend winters in and was a geriatric nurse for 32 either Florida with Bruce or Texas years. At the same time her family then Alabama with Kristin until Covid where she ended up staying until the travel restrictions were lifted. Then Dorian moved into Tudor Oaks in July of 2021.

Dorian loves dogs, having a toy Pomerium for over 14 years named Sir Tyler. Her favorite color is purple, and she enjoys playing cribbage. When asked her favorite food she said, “every birthday I would request roast lamb, creamed spinach, and mashed potatoes.”
