A tree stands alone on the precipice, Its fingers dug deep in the sand.

Although time and the elements eat at its world, It proudly, defiantly stands.

Its branches still reaching for heaven, Its roots bare and washing away.

To all others its fate has clearly been seen, Yet it stands, more determined each day.

One more day it gives shade to the weary.

One more day it replaces our air, One more day it is given to fulfill the plan Of the Almighty father up there.

We learn from this proud sapling, When we look deep into our own cup.

When the things of the world seem to wear us away We can bend, but must never give up.

Fall Bible Study based on the movie “War Room”. The study is eight weeks and will focus on prayer. It will be at 2pm on Mondays in October and November. More details to come later.

Advent begins on Sunday, November 29, 2020. Each week during this season there will be a special reflection during the daily devotion time.

The annual Christmas service will be on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 3pm.

Around the Neighborhood Meet The Osborns Tudor Oaks is blessed to have many accomplished and caring residents. Guy and Louise Osborn possess those traits as well as being creative and strong. Their wonderful sense of humor pops up often in the stories they share in the Storytellers' Studio. Their memoirs offer a glimpse into what makes the two of them so special as individuals and as a couple.

Guy and Louise grew up in Winnetka, Illinois and attended the same high school. After graduating in 1954, they both chose to attend Northwestern University. Guy was a marketing major and Louise pursued an education degree. They found they had a child psychology class together and became friends. Guy wanted Louise to fix him up with her sorority sister, which she did. (Fortunately, it didn't work out). At the Guy, Louise and their three surviving time, Louise was working at Marshall Fields and was getting children, Doug, Laurie and Judy unwanted attention from a coworker. Guy loaned Louise his fraternity pin to get rid of the boy at work. When she wanted to give the pin back, Guy asked her to keep it. They got engaged on Louise's birthday the following November, and married in their junior year during midterms.

That was the beginning of building a life together. Louise stayed home to raise their four children. Guy worked for Pillsbury and then Universal Foods, where he was the CEO at the time of his retirement. Louise later worked as a journalist for the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinel. In addition to their work, they gave back to their community. Guy was president of the trustees of Alverno College and the Boys’ and Girls' Clubs. He served as a trustee of Northwestern Mutual and United Way. Louise was on the foundation of Children's Hospital, PTA chairman and the founder of a Boys and Girls' club auxiliary where they began the Christmas fund drive that is still going on today. They found free time to participate in activities together such as golf, bridge, pops concerts and curling. They also had a cottage in West Bend during the summer months while their children were growing up.

Family has always been important to Guy and Louise. Being with their family of three surviving children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren is what brings them their greatest joy. They are very committed to their family and to each other. Perhaps that is part of where their strength comes from. They had to draw on that strength about 17 years ago when Guy suffered a massive stroke. Louise did her best to remain strong and when a doctor told her Guy would survive the stroke. Louise assured the doctor Guy would pull through and then fired the doctor. Guy used his tremendous strength to beat the odds.

At the time they chose Tudor Oaks they were living in a condo on Little Muskego Lake. Louise says, "It was pretty lonely during the winter when everyone went away. They attended a group meeting on the Tudor Oaks construction plans over eleven years ago. They report they have loved every day here with the staff, residents and beautiful grounds to enjoy. Guy and Louise worked with landscaping planning to help improve Tudor Oaks, including the addition of the new butterfly preserve next to the sports complex. Louise says, "We take every day as an adventure to do something new, and never take anything for granted." How fortunate for all of us that their adventure continues at Tudor Oaks.

Campus Spotlight News and Notes

Getting to Know Julie Ninham Our new Volunteer Coordinator Most staff and residents would agree, Julie Ninham is a wonderful force of nature. Her joyfulness and effervescent personality bring smiles to anyone who spends any time with her. Julie has a new position at Tudor Oaks. She will be stepping into the role of Volunteer Coordinator. That position may be a new one for her but Julie isn’t new to Tudor Oaks. We asked Julie to give us a little history of her time here with us and to give us a little more insight into her life off campus.

Position: I wor ked at Tudor Oaks fr om 1993 to 2002 as C.N.A in the Health Center and in Windsor House. I stayed home for years to raise my kids. I came back here in 2012 as a unit secretary in the Health Center. I loved being back but I missed caring for residents so I did home care. I was so grateful and honored when Dorothy Reising told me she was retiring and thought I would be good for the job.

Michele hired me in 2016 as Lifestyles assistant. Honestly the best, fun rewarding job ever!!!!

Hometown: I gr ew up on Little Muskego lake. I went to Mill Valley, Bay Lane and Muskego high school. I now live in Hales Corners. My family enjoys visiting my parents who still live by the lake.

What is your favorite food? Ever ything except canned peas.

What are your interests/hobbies? I love to do cr afts with my gr andkids. We like to r ecycle mater ials and make fun pretty things. We decorate our “holiday” tree for every season, holidays and birthdays. I also enjoy swimming and being outdoors with my family.

What is your favorite movie? Toss up…Grumpy Old Men and The Notebook.

What are you most thankful for? My family What is your dream vacation? Hawaiian honeymoon Who would you most like to meet? Elton J ohn

Crushed Can Accounting Many, many boxes of our crushed aluminum cans were recently taken to a recycling yard.

There were 610 pounds of cans which netted the Tudor Oaks Resident Council $152.58.

Thanks to everyone who recycles their aluminum cans for our benefit and thanks to all the volunteers who help out by crushing the cans.

It’s a great cooperative effort by many willing hands.

MAH JONG SET AVAILABLE FOR USE Virginia Krause donated her Mah Jongg set to the residents of Tudor Oaks to use. Virginia passed away in March at the age of 97 and enjoyed playing a weekly game of Mah Jongg. We are truly grateful to Virginia for this generous gift. Please contact Lifestyle Director, Michele Vogt (414-525-6458) to reserve use of the set. We are grateful for Virginia’s generosity.
