and Notes Chaplain’s Corner

As we begin month two of our new way of living, I am grateful to so many people affiliated with the Tudor Oaks Community. Let me start by acknowledging our staff. The first month of COVID-19 presented all of us with thinking out of the box, working to alleviate the added stressors for all and embracing, above all, change. Change is not easy and together we have accomplished a lot in a little amount of time. That being said, thank you doesn’t seem like enough, given all – God bless you!

Next, our residents here at Tudor Oaks. I can’t thank them enough, either, for their cooperation throughout the “Safer at Home” and for their ideas and recommendations throughout, in making Tudor Oaks a better place to be at this time. Every day I hear of someone in the community reaching out to others (at a safe distance or via phone) to check on others, provide an ear or be available for whatever needs to be done. The many changes we have implemented affecting you during this time are in an effort to keep us all safe and again, I am grateful for everyone’s contribution to this agenda.

Finally, the ABHM corporate team has provided valuable support to our clinical team here at Tudor Oaks. Daily communications with them, looking at best practice, deciphering the latest recommendations from numerous local, state and federal agencies, and just being supportive of our many questions during this time are appreciated!

Whispers Of The Lord

By Shannon Tackett The Lord whispered to me, "I love you so," "Come follow me, my child, high places we will go."

The Lord knelt beside me at an altar in prayer, He wiped my tears and took away my despair.

"Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me, "There will be no more pain, but oh so much to gain."

He said, "I forgive you now for all you've done," Now it's time to receive the love of God's only son."

His love was so warm, so bright and so true, I could not believe my soul he had renewed, He repaired my soul from the inside out.

It was then and only then I knew what love was about.

The cleansing power that fell over me, Was the love of the Lord as he carried me.

"Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me, "In that sweet holy land someday you will be.

You will see the Lord's face at those big pearly gates, Where loved ones embrace and angels await.

Come follow me, my child," the Lord whispered to me, "I will love you always, your protector I'll be."

Around the Neighborhood Meet Bill Longe Every once in a while you might be fortunate enough to meet someone who makes a lasting impression on you. They might be ver approachable and friendly or funny. Maybe they are generous, a leader, an engaging speaker and storyteller or remarkably intelligent yet humble. How often do you meet someone who has all of those characteristics? Probably not very often. However, Tudor Oaks resident, Dr. Bill Longe fits all of those. “A modest man of many accomplishments”, is how fellow storyteller, Mary Taugher of D-wing describes Bill Longe.

The small town of Ionia, Michigan is where Bill grew up. When he was barely out of his teenage years he became a captain in the US Navy during WWII. He is also a veteran of the Korean War and served in the Naval Reserve until 1969. Bill says he must have paid attention and learned something in high school because he was given a choice by the Navy to study medicine or engineering. He is a graduate of Holy Cross College in Worcester, Mass. and Marquette University School of Medicine. Dr. Bill Longe enjoyed a long career as a physician.

One of the founders of West Allis Memorial Hospital in West Allis, Wisconsin, he served as president of the staff for several years and then for twenty three years on the Board of Trustees of the hospital. While president of the medical staff he established the first Coronary Care Unit and Intensive Care Facility at West Allis Hospital. Following his retirement from private practice he worked as the Corporate Medical Director for the A.O. Smith Corporation. During his career Dr. Longe served on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army in the Milwaukee Area. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Milwaukee Academy of Medicine. He also served as an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Fellow Tudor Oaks resident and former colleague, Ron LaBott, says of Bill, “He was a leader of and respected by his medical peers and health professionals who worked with him. He stood for quality and concern for others. His most frequent question as a hospital board member was: “How does this affect the little guy in the bed?” That concern for others is still very evident to his neighbors at Tudor Oaks.

Bill is the father of four sons and grandfather to three grandchildren. His first wife, Joyce, passed away in 1983. In 1985 he remarried. In 2015 Bill and his lovely wife Pam moved to Tudor Oaks.

Bill and Pam enjoy the beautiful landscape of Tudor Oaks, and take walks daily. According to Mary Taugher, “Bill is a gift who entertains all of us with his many interesting stories told as only Bill can tell a story with his delightful, self-deprecating humor.” Ron LaBott adds, “Bill was blessed with a sense of humor and strength of purpose that serve him well.” Said another way, “he is the kind of guy you want your daughter to marry!” He really is quite a guy. Residents and staff would agree that we are fortunate to know Dr. Bill Longe and have him living in our neighborhood.

Memoirs and Musings What’s in a Name

By Louise Osborn This is dedicated to all the Tudor Oaks residents It's been hard, getting to know everyone, but I hope to get them memorized: There is Dan, a Dave, six Dons and two Rons and Rogers.

Don’t pronounce Karen Karen. There are two Rosemarys but they are pronounced differently.

How about two LaBotts.

Or, the two Marions spelled different ways? There are three Marys, and Margarets (one is Peggy another Marge) a Marilyn, Marie, two Mary Anns and four Marges, but one prefers to be called Marjorie and another Margie.

How about three Deloreses, a Donna, Doreen and four Dorothys, but one is Dottie!

And, don't forget Linda, Lorraine, Lois and Louise!

Then there's Thelma, Velma, and Versa! There are three Pats and Carols, a Carolyn a Cathy and two Ruths, Helens, two Bettys and three Barbaras. (Are they called Barb, Babs or Barbara?)

How about four Bobs, three Johns, two Ralphs, Dicks and a Jack? But there's a last name Jack, too!

Do you know the three Judys, Janes, Joans, Joannes and four Janets (one is called Jan but there is a Jan!) Or a Jill, Jan, Jo, Julie and Julia? Can you name the five Nancys, (one being known as Nan).

Hmmmmmm.. Maybe we should all wear name tags!

Memoirs and Musings (cont.) On my return to the dorm, I saw the counselor for my floor, who arranged a meeting for me and the roommate who had turned off my alarm. I learned that my "roommate" who was carrying a full load and had a job, basically just used the room for the closet space and as a place to nap. (She was an early "hippie".) This roommate moved out the following week.

My advice for first year students starting college: I highly recommend dealing with uncomfortable situations sooner....and always have a backup alarm clock.
