Chaplain’s Corner News and Notes November is the month to remind us to be thankful Bible Study based on the movie “War Room”.

Hometown:/School: I grew up in Muskego and went to Muskego High School. Now I go to UWM.

Hometown/School: My hometown is Muskego and I am currently a senior at Muskego High School.

Current Position: I have worked at Tudor Oaks for almost three years, first in dining and now as a Lifestyles Assistant.

Current Position: I was in dining services but as of mid-October I am a CNA.

What is your favorite food: I don’t really have a favorite food, but since I am a vegetarian I enjoy vegetables and scrambled eggs.

What are your interests and hobbies? My interests include being outdoors and playing with my cat, Jerry. My hobbies include drawing, painting and working out.

What is your favorite movie? I don’t watch movies very often but of the limited amount I have seen I like romance movies.

What are you most thankful for? I am most thankful for my family including my sister, mom, dad, and my cat, Jerry. Specifically, I am thankful for my mom who inspires me to pursue my dreams.

What is your dream vacation? I would love to go to Bali and see the temples that are there.

What interesting fact would you like to share? My parents had a bet that if I was a girl my dad got to name me and if I was a boy my mom got to name me. My dad named me after an Asian video game character. My full name is Xiayou but no one calls me that.

One other interesting fact is that my mom worked here when she was 14 and loved it. I had a friend who used to work here so I applied.

Once I started working in the Health Center I got my sister to work in the dining room. I actually was the one who trained her.

What is your favorite food: My favorite food is mac and cheese.

What are your interests and hobbies? My interests and hobbies include drawing, makeup, hanging with friends, exploring new places and so many more.

What are you most thankful for? I am most thankful for my family and cat. My family is always there for me and always will be. I just love my cat.

What is your dream vacation? I would love to go to Bali or Fiji.

What interesting fact would you like to share? I have a bone disease that formed tumors in my right arm. I needed two surgeries but I am doing a lot better now. Another interesting fact is that I want to go to college for nursing to be an ER nurse and eventually, a nurse practitioner.

Meet Mary Schaefer

Fall Musings

Mary always had a love of clowns and says she started drawing clowns when she was 9 years old and later decided to become one! She chose the clown name Healthy because it embodied how she wanted to live life. She enjoyed clowning for more than 25 years, performing at birthday parties and other large events.

As a member of the Laughter and Fun Technicians, Mary had the opportunity to perform in the Great Circus Parade, a downtown Milwaukee tradition. Mary still brings joy to everyone around her. She has a beautiful smile that can brighten the whole room.

Lisa Runte of the Lifestyles department said, “Mary is always so pleasant and it makes you feel good just to spend time with her.” Julie Ninham, also from the Lifestyles department, agreed and added, “You can tell she really cares about other people and no matter how she is feeling she wants everyone to feel happy.”

When asked how Mary keeps such a bright outlook she said it isn’t always easy but explains she is a born again Christian and enjoys a very personal relationship with Jesus Christ. That strong faith always brings her comfort and she wants to share that.

One look around Mary’s room helps you understand her warm and welcoming personality. She said her room is her home and she wants to make it feel that way. She has added many personal touches such as some of her own furniture, an adorable painting done by Mary’s father of Mary in her clown makeup, a beautiful Tiffany style floor lamp and airy window curtains. It is always a little sad when summer ends before fall arrives. Yet, in my own life the change of seasons usually brought new beginnings as the school year started and new experiences unfolded. Now I find fall with its glorious colors, warmer clothing and comfort food to be the best time of the year.

Change is inevitable in life and resistance to it is futile. Some change comes naturally such as the annual change of seasons or the repeated cycle of human life. Some change is chosen. That change tends to be positive even if it brings unintended consequences with it. For all of us some change is unpredicted, possibly negative and often unwelcome. All change requires letting go. Frequently it is with sadness that we leave something known to face an unknown future.

I think for me, the hardest thing to let go was my early view of who I am and what I could achieve in life.

Acceptance of a changed personal perception came slowly over time and with some difficulty. However, it prepared me for other uncontrollable life changes and losses, and gave me a deeper understanding and deeper relationships with other people as well as unimagined positive life experiences.

It has taken a lifetime to learn to accept inevitable change and see it most often as an opportunity for new experiences and unexpected delights. It is very hard to let go of something valued but in doing so we open ourselves up to new worlds of possibilities at every stage of life including the later years. I’m very glad that my life has changed repeatedly and has not remained static and uninteresting
