Lord, am I obeying you as I should?

Am I cutting corners to do as I would?

Do I interpret Your law my way?

Do I ask You questions? Do I stop to pray?

Please don’tt Please don feed o our ur ducks! duc ducks! ks!

Water is the safest place for our ducks to protect themselves from predators. Their wings are clipped, so they cannot fly. Because they have been fed by visitors, they are leaving the area of the reflection pond to look for food. Please help keep them safe by not feeding them.

When I think I'm doing what You request Do I bend Your plans to suit me best?

Is it my schedule that sets my goals, Do I run ahead of You, searching for souls?

I want to follow the guidelines You set , I want to please You, to serve You, and yet I feel I'm short changing Your perfect plan; perhaps I'm too hasty to reach out to man.

I want to consult You, to be in Your will But sometimes I wonder, did You say "Be still"?

I do need Your guidance, I can't run ahead, Teach me to follow, to hear You instead.

Give me Your patience so that I will know, You'll plainly tell me just where I should go.

Around the Neighborhood Meet Lois Wakeman Lois Wakeman is truly a lifelong learner. A student at her alma mater, Marquette University up until the age of 89,Lois has not lost her quest for knowledge. She says she has always been curious and enjoyed learning. Lois had an appreciation for school and a fondness for educators recalling both her kindergarten teacher and her 3rd grade teacher and says they were wonderful women with whom she remained friends for life.

The love of the classroom inspired Lois to pursue a degree in Education and English, graduating with honors from Marquette.

While in college Lois had a blind date set up by her best friend. Lois and her date, Bill, enjoyed a picnic basket of fried chicken in Lake park, which would become the beloved neighborhood the two of them lived in later in life. Lois and Bill had a daughter followed by 3 sons. The family enjoyed spending time outdoors with frequent hiking, camping and canoe trips. On Lois’s 90th birthday she went on a canoe trip for the day with her son and was surprised upon her return by a party in her honor with loving family and friends waiting to celebrate with her on the Lamson Plaza. Lois has been a resident of Tudor Oaks since December of 2016. The natural setting surrounding the Tudor Oaks campus is one of the things Lois has enjoyed most while living here. She has been a bird watcher for many years and was able to catalog over 50 species of birds during her first spring after moving in. Marge Schell and Lois bonded over evening walks around campus. Because of Covid-19 Lois has not been able to get outside as much as she would like so her friend Marge said she brings the campus to Lois. Marge explains that she understands Lois’s love of the outdoors and the beautiful birds in the area. “I take pictures around campus and print them out to mail to Lois. In return she puts the envelope in her window to show me she received it.”

Outdoor adventure and birding are not the only hobbies Lois enjoys. She is an avid reader and makes good use of the Wisdom Tree Library. Inspired by her favorite aunt, Cleo, she has recorded the author and title of every book she has read since 1969. With over 2000 titles already logged, the list continues to grow. Lois enjoys many genres including biographies and history. She has researched her own family history back to the 1500s. Lois is always willing to share stories of her family history or wonderful words of wisdom although she is more likely to encourage you to venture out and find an adventure for yourself to enjoy whether outdoors or in a book.

A capacity, and taste, for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others.

Getting to Know Amy Halloran

It is with a heavy heart that I have chosen to end my “entertaining” position as Lifestyles assistant. The time has come for me to start my retirement and spend more time with my wife, children, and wonderful grandchildren. I will continue with my music, playing piano, singing, and bugling. I can even hit the rails of my model trains and live steam railroading, again.

I remember when Dorothy Riesing interviewed and hired me. I shadowed another activity assistant, Linda Stahelin, on my first shifts.

It’s amazing to me, having been employed at Tudor Oaks a month short of my 13th year anniversary, how those years totaled approximately 2,366 days, or 27,919 miles of travel commute distances.

I cherish the memories knowing that I brought joy, jokes, and friendship by working with a wonderful community of residents.

I have been blessed “working” for the residents and with the staff at Tudor Oaks, and enjoy remembering the many individuals who touched my life.

Most of you probably already know Amy Halloran who has worked at Tudor Oaks for 15 years but we thought it would be nice to get to know her better so Lifestyles Director, Michele Vogt, asked Amy to answer a few questions for us.

Hometown: I was bor n in Portsmouth, VA and moved to WI in 1979. I moved around a lot, but I have lived in West Allis most of my time in WI. Position at Tudor Oaks: I am back to where I started… Reception. When I started at Tudor Oaks in August, 2005 I worked in reception. I moved to the Marketing Department sometime in 2007 as the Marketing Assistant. In October, 2015 I moved to the Lifestyle Department as the Volunteer Coordinator. In July I moved back to Reception. Pray for me!

It’s a big job!

Favorite food: Tender loin steak and a baked potato with butter Hobbies/interests: I enjoy just sitting outside when the weather is nice and I am a want-to-be reader of Christian personal growth or fiction.

Favorite movie: I don’t know that I have a favorite, but I love Facing the Giants, Remember the Titans & You’ve Got Mail Most thankful for: I am most thankful for my relationship with God and for my family Dream vacation: I would want to go anywher e fun and warm with my family. I have been wanting to go to the Creation Museum in KY before they’ve all moved out!
