s you will notice in this newsletter, construction has been a major topic of conversation around Trail Ridge these past few months. With the cold and harsh winter behind us, the constructions companies have been able to catch up on the project.

The new assisted living building, pool, wellness area and new kitchen are schedule to open in November of this year. The new memory care and the remodeling of the main building are still scheduled to be complete in May of 2015. This is truly an exciting time at Trail Ridge as we watch the building go up. Come out and see all the activity anytime, there is always someone to show you around.

As we expand our campus we also look to improve our services, and in fact recently we conducted two satisfaction surveys. One survey was given to residents and the other to staff members. The information gathered through these surveys provides us with valuable feedback and ideas during this time of transformation. The information is then

reviewed by a number of Trail Ridge teams who look for comments and ideas expressed in the survey and begin to develop plans to make changes where needed. This process, which we have been using for nearly 10 years, is very empowering and enables everyone at Trail Ridge to voice their opinion and have input to the solution.

As far as the survey results, I am pleased to say the feedback has been very positive.

ummer has finally arrived and construction is in full bloom. Our community is undergoing the greatest transformation it has seen since it was first built. It is mesmerizing to watch our campus grow, each day bringing new changes. What a blessing it is to be here at Trail Ridge during such an exciting time.

Opening NEW Trails

I

f you drive past Trail Ridge, talk to a resident, staff member or one of our neighbors, I am certain you are aware of the construction taking place on campus. And why wouldn’t you be – we are approaching the end of the first phase of our redevelopment project and couldn’t be more excited. For Trail Ridge residents and seniors of Sioux Falls that means we are just a couple of months from opening our brand new Wellness Center and redesigned common areas, a new 40 apartment assisted living building, and shortly thereafter opening new memory care

suites. As a result residents will have an even greater number of living options to choose from and more amenities and services enjoy.

The new construction, which expands the levels of care available, in addition to new community features, such as a swimming pool, fitness center, new dining room and much more, have produced quite a buzz. This past winter and spring, in fact, we experienced such great interest we were forced to create a waiting list for those interested in becoming a part of Trail Ridge.

Chaplain’s Corner- by Chaplain Randy Fredrikson

ne of the aspects of life we South Dakotans are more than a little familiar with is . . . the wind.

While it doesn’t blow all the time, it’s a pretty good bet that if it’s calm right now, it won’t be for long. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, the main female character goes crazy in O.E. Rolvaag’s Giants in the Earth, the tale of early Norwegian immigrants in eastern South Dakota, because of . . . the unrelenting wind.

But I have to confess as a small boat sailor that I would have rather have the wind than dead calm. When your boat doesn’t have a motor, it’s no fun being stranded two miles off shore on Oahe Reservoir during a race series, as Elaine and I once were north of Pierre.

The same applies in life: I’d rather be moved along by the Holy Spirit than to sit becalmed, so to speak, in an inert state. This is a pretty good analogy, since in the Greek language in which the New Testament was written, the

same word, pneuma, is used for both wind and spirit.

So, if you’re languishing in a too-safe harbor in life, it makes sense to pray that the Holy Spirit would blow some spiritual, wake-up wind into your mind, heart, and body. I have always liked the old hymn, “I Feel the Winds of God Today.” One of the verses goes Randy Fredrikson Trail Ridge Chaplain like this: “It is the wind of God that dries my vain regretful tears/ Until with braver thoughts shall the purer, brighter years/ If cast on shares of selfish ease or pleasure I should be,/ Lord, let me feel the freshening breeze, and I’ll put back to sea.” Is this your time to cast off and put back to sea. The wind of the Spirit is blowing. ~ Chaplain Randy
