I

n our Winter, 2014 Newsletter I announced the construction of both a new 16-bed short term rehabilitation and recovery neighborhood and assisted living memory care community. This is in line with our mission to expand our services in order to meet the needs of our growing senior population.

I am excited to report that we just opened our new Rehab Suites in July with much anticipation and fanfare! Our new neighborhood boasts of private rooms with walk-in showers, Smart TV’s, wifi access, refrigerators, individual climate control, private main entrance, state–of-the-art therapy gym, spa, beauty salon, spacious and well-appointed common areas with abundant natural light, enhanced dining, beautifully landscaped courtyard with rehabilitation features, and a variety of activities including, of course, afternoon happy hours.

Construction of our new memory care neighborhood continues in earnest with an anticipated opening date of January, 2015. It will feature many amenities and services designed to meet the needs of those individuals with memory concerns who can still Mike Maschka maintain a high quality of living Mountain Vista Administrator within the safe, secure environment of an assisted living community.

All of this comes, coincidently, as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. As we continue to grow and change, I want to thank all of our residents, families, volunteers and staff for your patience during this time of transition. Our community is what it is today because of YOU, for whom we are so grateful!

With the transformation of Mountain Vista campus we would like to introduce another improvement, our new logo! We are excited to present the new design here first in our community newsletter. We feel this new logo more accurately captures the essence of the redeveloped campus and the Mountain Vista Senior Living Community of the future!

50th Anniversary & Ground-Breaking

of New Assisted Living Memory Care On August 23, 2014

his summer Mountain Vista is proud to be celebrating 50 years of service to the seniors of Wheat Ridge and greater Denver area. To commemorate the occasion we are hosting a 50th Anniversary Party and Ground-breaking of our new Assisted Living Memory Care on, Saturday, August 23rd.

Beginning at 11:45 a.m., Mountain Vista is hosting a Ground-breaking ceremony for the new Assisted Living Memory Care wing, with Wheat Ridge Mayor Joyce Jay and the Mountain Vista residents, families and staff. When complete the new 14,000 square foot Assisted Living Memory Care building will offer 22 specially designed apartment homes and be a great addition to the community.

Following the ground-breaking, guests, residents and staff can enjoy a 50th Anniversary County Fair-style celebration. The afternoon will be filled with great country music, carnival food, games, cotton candy, snow cones, a petting zoo and more.

This is a great time for Mountain Vista and we invite you to join us on Saturday August 23, 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. as we look to the future and 50 more years of success!

What is Assisted Living?

To learn more about Assisted Living and to help you make an informed decision, we have gathered general information from the Assisted Living Federation of America, AFLA. A

ssisted living is an excellent option for seniors seeking an independent and vibrant lifestyle, while also receiving the help they want and need with daily activities. Assisted living is the senior living option that combines housing, support services, and health care, as needed. Seniors who choose assisted living enjoy an independent lifestyle with assistance customized to meet their needs, benefits that enrich their lives, and an environment that promotes wellbeing and family connectedness. Staff is available to meet both scheduled and unscheduled needs.

Communities typically offer dining, as well as social and wellness activities designed to support a wellrounded lifestyle. Assisted living is a housing and health-care option that combines independence and personal care in a residential setting.

A senior living community, like Mountain Vista, provides an easy transition from independent living to assisted living for seniors who may need additional help. They can enjoy an improved quality of life with independence and care combined.

The Residents

More than one million Americans currently live in assisted living communities. Assisted living is appropriate for someone who wants and needs some level of assistance with everyday activities, such as meal preparation, medication management, transportation and bathing, for example. Some residents may have Alzheimer’s or other cognitive impairments, or they may need assistance with mobility, incontinence, or other challenges.

The Communities

Assisted living communities offer the latest amenities, privacy, comfort, and beautifully decorated home inspired environments for seniors.

There is no single blueprint for assisted living because consumers’ preferences and needs vary widely. Most communities have suites varying in size from a single room to a full apartment. They may be operated by nonprofit or for-profit organizations.

Typical Costs

Costs vary with the community, apartment size, and types of services needed by residents; however, assisted living often is less expensive than home health services or nursing home care in the same geographic area. The basic rate may cover all amenities and personal services or there may be additional charges for special services.

Every community is unique. As you begin your search for an assisted living community, assess your current needs and be prepared to ask each provider how it might accommodate any changes in your needs over time.

Mountain Vista Launches New State-of-the-Art Rehab Center

M

ountain Vista Senior Living Community welcomed Pinkard Construction, William Brummett Architects, and Wheat Ridge Mayor Joyce Jay for the grand opening celebration of Mountain Vista’s new Rehabilitation Suites on Wednesday, July 23 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. This six-month long renovation overhauled an entire wing of skilled nursing area to create 12 private rehab suites and two semi-private suites specifically designed for short term rehabilitation care.

The new short term therapy suites are crucial to Mountain Vista’s continuum of care, enabling residents to receive rehabilitative therapy, support and training as they transition back to assisted living, independent living or their previous home, following an injury or illness. Each rehab suite has been completely remodeled and furnished to meet the needs and expectations of residents as they recover and often relearn daily living skills.

Project scope included the addition of private showers and individual temperature controls to all suites, adding a new dining area and common areas for a comfortable home-like feel. In addition Mountain Vista has created a new therapy gym, resident services center, spa room, and beauty salon all with new finishes and furnishings.

This project is phase one of a two phase project. Work has already begun on the second phase, which adds a new assisted living memory care wing to Mountain Vista’s community.

Mountain Vista Senior Living Community houses a full-service Therapy Department with physical, occupational and speech therapists working with individuals to get them healthy and back home as quickly as possible.

As the baby boomer population grows and remains more active they are receiving more joint replacement that call for rehab services and Mountain Vista has responded. The therapists at Mountain Vista are highly trained with state-of-the art equipment available on site to help residents progress quickly toward goals set by the resident, therapist and physician.

The brand new Mountain Vista rehab center offers a beautiful and home-like atmosphere that welcomes both residents and families alike. We offer residents the opportunity to choose from one of our 12 private or 2 semi-

private rooms and a variety of social and entertainment options. With the rehab center comfortably designed for 16 residents, our therapists are able to develop personal relationships with each individual and understand their specific needs. We have found that a solid connection between resident and therapists can prove to be very beneficial during the recovery process.

If you are not a resident of Mountain Vista and need rehab services, not to worry, you can still access our experienced therapy team by becoming part of our “outpatient therapy program.”

In the event your care needs change and you wish to make Mountain Vista your permanent home, you can rest assured the transition to assisted living, longterm or our affordable cottages is seamless. And, in 2015 watch for the opening of our assisted living memory care.

Mountain Vista Welcomes New Regional Wellness Director TJ Sherley

Mountain Vista Welcomes New Community Relations Coordinator Judy Bernstein

TJ is a Montrose, Colorado native, and attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, where he received a Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Exercise Science with and emphasis in Health Promotion. After graduation he and his wife moved to Ann Arbor Michigan where he worked for the University of Michigan in the M-Healthy division as a Fitness Specialist and personal trainer. He was also involved with a program called Fit Script which gave him the opportunity to work with medically complex cases involving exercise and mobility. He has held various other positions in the seven years he was in Michigan that included Anatomy and Physiology instructor and the manager of the fitness center at the Chrysler Proving grounds.

Judy spent a number of years as a Realtor before shifting her focus to health care. For the past nine years she has held a number of positions within the health care industry and just prior to joining Mountain Vista she was with Halcyon Hospice. Judy states, “I am very excited to becoming a part of this community at a time of such dynamic growth.”

ountain Vista and sister community TJ Sherley The Community at Franklin Park in downtown Denver would like to welcome our new Regional Director of Wellness, TJ Sherley.

TJ and his wife moved back to Colorado in June of 2013 to be closer to friends and family. Then in late March 2014, TJ started his journey with parent-company ABHM in Albert Lea, Minnesota where he participated in training for the Best Age wellness program, which is now being implemented as our Wellness Program for Restorative Nursing exercise at Mountain Vista.

TJ is also certified by the American Council on Exercise as a Personal Trainer and Group Fitness instructor, Silver Sneakers Classic and TRX suspension trainer level one.
