It’s position, tucked away in the centre of the village is what persuaded me to take a look, and I’m very glad I did because I fell in love with it the minute I set foot inside. As you enter the space just opens up before you into these very well proportioned rooms, so it was the perfect size for us. I also fell in love with the character of the house, which makes it totally unique, and there are some lovely period features including a rather impressive inglenook fireplace in the lounge and another open fire in the dining room, which is a lovely focal point.”

“Another feature that sold the property to us was the superb amount of outside space. We have gardens both front and back, and they are both just so pretty and also really peaceful and private. We redesigned the front to be more of a traditional cottage garden, with mixed planting and veg, and there’s also a very attractive flowerbed that’s surrounding by box hedging. The front garden is large and private and gets the sun all day long so when we’re outside during the day it’s where we tend to spend most of our time.

The back garden is also very lovely. It’s mainly laid to lawn so it’s really easy to maintain, and we’ve put a bench table directly outside the kitchen stable door and that’s a good spot to sit of an evening and watch the bats swooping about.”

“Kislingbury is a very friendly village and there’s a lot to get involved with, if you want to. There are bowls, cricket and football clubs, bell ringing in the local church and a rambling group, and the KOF, which is a well-supported over-50s club, meets every week in the village hall and they organise a full programme of events throughout the year. However, I love the fact that our immediate surroundings are so quiet. The house sits tucked away on a no-through lane and it’s completely hidden so people often don’t realise we’re here! It’s peaceful and private, and yet at the same time we’re just a stone’s throw from the High Street.”

“When we bought the property, the previous owners told us that when the house was extended to create the dining room a child’s shoe was found in the wall. It was authenticated by Northampton shoe museum as being of the correct period for the property, and as it had originally been put there to provide good luck, it was resealed back into the wall.”
