STEP INSIDE Michaelmas Cottage

Works carried out by the current vendors include at total rethatch; improving the connectivity with Wi-Fi access points; restoration of various elements and renovation of the garden; utility and bothy in the garden, which is now a perfect garden office.

Ground Floor:

With exposed beams, it is immediately apparent you are in a timber framed building which dates back originally to the 1600s.

A spacious, double-aspect reception room is open to the hall and allows the accommodation to flow and means there is no wasted space. A second seating area around the log burner makes an ideal snug, perfect for cosying up to in winter.

This leads through to the generously proportioned family room, which could be very versatile as a middle reception room on the ground floor.

The double-aspect country kitchen benefits from vaulted ceilings and adjoins a dining room, which in turn leads to the useful utility room. The ground floor is completed by a bathroom and separate shower room/WC.

First Floor:

The superb character features continue upstairs and the principal bedroom offers attractive wood floors and a range of built-in storage space. There are two further double bedrooms and a single bedroom.

A wonderful example of a historic building having undergone extensive work by the current owners to offer spacious interiors with the charm and character of a traditional thatched cottage. This gorgeous grade II listed home has delightful features in every room and occupies a convenient village-centre location within easy reach of numerous amenities and a railway station with regular direct services to London.”

SELLER INSIGHT

What is your favourite room of the house and why?

The drawing room is my favourite room as it has such a serene vibe. It is rarely used by the family, the beauty of the exposed beams is incredibly relaxing - a glorious room for curling up with a book.

My husband loves all the rooms for different reasons, but the bothy is his sanctuary, it is calm and quiet.

Who do you think would be the next ideal owner?

A family with pets, but most importantly someone who will love and care for this cottage as much as we do.

What do you love most about the house and why?

Its sense of calm, it invites you the moment you set foot over the threshold. Each room has a charm completely different from the others.

The mix of spacious and cosy rooms give a great choice of what they can be used for.

What do you love about the local community?

They are incredibly caring and help is always at hand. There is also a plethora of fabulous characters.

Two pubs, a village shop, post office and fabulous walks. You will always bump into someone you know.

How easy is it to commute from here?

Pewsey train station is 3 miles away, 10 minutes or so by car. There is also a regular bus service, serving Salisbury and Swindon.

London is easily accessible by the M4 or M3 motorways, or there is a brilliant service from Andover.

What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?

The four reception rooms and the walled garden, the good sized bedrooms and location.*

STEP OUTSIDE

Michaelmas Cottage

Outside:

The Bothy: This was extensively renovated by the current owners and now provides a fantastic garden office. Rather nice to be able to close the door after a day’s work and leave it at the bottom of the garden.

Garden:

Ground works undertaken have provided an attractive 2 level garden with lawn and a range of beds and borders. With a lovely view of the church behind, the garden is walled making it ideal for containing many 4 legged and 2 legged friends.

Location:

The village of Upavon has 2 public houses, village shop with post-office counter, doctor’s surgery, hairdressers, village hall and golf club all within walking distance of Michaelmas Cottage. The surrounding countryside is some of the finest downland scenery in the UK and is steeped in history dating back to Neolithic times. One need not be reliant on a car to enjoy the wonderful scenery, with numerous footpaths easily accessible, as are the wide open spaces of Salisbury Plain.

The nearby substantial village of Pewsey offers a wider range of shops and amenities including a supermarket, garage and of course Pewsey Railway station, with a direct line to London with service taking around 1hr. The city of Salisbury and the market towns of Marlborough and Devizes are all within reasonable driving distance, as is the A303.

The area has excellent schooling at both primary and secondary levels, with a range of options including St. Francis Primary, Dauntsey’s School and Marlborough College in the independent sector in addition to a range of state sector facilities at all levels.
