We’ve decided to move because we’ve found another property that we’d like to renovate, but we’ll be sad to leave Bells Farm,” says the owner. “We’ve turned that very rundown collection of barns into a really fabulous lifestyle property, and we’ve no doubt the new owners are going to love living here.”

SELLER INSIGHT

Beautifully positioned in the heart of the charming village of Thorntonin-Craven is Bells Farm, a stunning Grade II listed period home that has been very stylishly remodelled and refurbished by the current owners. “We were actually developing another property not far from here when we quite literally stumbled across Bells Farm,” says the owner. “We weren’t really looking for another project, but this house immediately captured our imaginations. Back then it was this charming, though very rundown former farm house with a rather dilapidated barn on one side and a tumbledown shippon on the other. It was crying out for some TLC and ripe for development so we decided to bite the bullet and embark on a mini Grand Design, and we really couldn’t be prouder of the results of all of our hard work.”

“All three buildings have now been linked creating a lovely big family home, and the old shippon has been transformed into the most stunning open-plan kitchen, dining and living space. We added a glass link that connects it to the old house as well as a huge bank of sliding doors that can be pushed back to create an almost seamless connection with the garden – we were keen to create a really good sense of synergy between inside and out and I’d say that’s definitely something we’ve managed to achieve. In the old house we now have a good-sized dining room with log burner for a more formal occasion, and just off that is what we call the snug, which is perfect for winter evenings with yet another log burning stove. The old barn is now a huge lounge, above which is a galleried landing that leads to the new bedrooms. The house has been creatively imagined throughout, and although it’s been redesigned with modern living in mind, it still has a wealth of feature such as exposed stone and beams… I’d say the balance between old and new is just right.”

“Outside, the garden has been completely redesigned with both family time and entertaining in mind. We wanted it to feel like an extension of the living space so we’ve created various areas for sitting out, relaxing and alfresco dining. We have a large amount of decking, there are two lawned areas and we’ve also built an outdoor kitchen with BBQ, professional pizza oven and fridges as well as a folly, complete with a fireplace and wood burner so you can sit down and snuggle up under blankets at the end of the evening.”

“All of the rooms have their own personality; however, the kitchen is definitely the heart of our home. I’m a very keen cook so it’s been designed to be very functional as well as a really sociable space, and I love the fact that when the sun is shining we can push back the sliding doors and blur the line between inside and out.”

“Thornton-in-Craven is a lovely little rural village surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside. It’s very peaceful here and we enjoy total and utter privacy, but we’ve never felt isolated. There’s a nice village community and Skipton is only a short drive from here so everything we need is easy to get hold of. There are also some great schools in the local area so it’s a fabulous place to raise a family.”*

Access to the first floor is via a return staircase with attractive traditional arched window and to the first floor is a spacious landing. The master suite is accessed via the glazed walkway above the lounge and comprises a large double bedroom with exposed roof truss beams, a high quality ensuite bathroom finished in a contemporary style and a separate dressing room accessed via a staircase from the bedroom. There are four further bedrooms to the first floor, all of which are substantial double rooms, these bedrooms are in turn serviced by a house bathroom with four piece suite. There is an attic space boarded with lighting installed.

“The house and garden have both been given enormous character but with a low maintenance upkeep, and are ready for the new owners to simply move in and enjoy, but there’s still the potential to do more. We have a very large outbuilding that my husband currently uses for storage, but we’ve always thought it has t he potential to be transformed into a party/games room, a home gym or even an office.”

Externally to the front of the property is a fenced low maintenance fore garden with attractive planting. To the rear and accessed by double electric gates there is a large gravel driveway with ample parking for several vehicles, this provides access to the triple stone built quadruple garage large enough to convert to annexed accommodation (subject to planning consent) if required. The rear garden is finished to the same standard as the house and is impressive with different sitting out areas, space for a hot tub, there is an outside kitchen and bar with surrounding patio which is perfect for entertaining.

Across the lawn is a newly yet traditionally constructed stone built Folly with glazed roof lanterns, heat lamps and outside fireplace together with a substantial log store. Beyond the Folly is a further lawned area. To one side of the garden is a superb building with a curved roof which is deceptively spacious internally and provides super versatile space for a substantial home workplace, showroom, studio, or annexe, inspection of this building will pleasantly surprise interested parties.
