Whilst the ever popular centre of - Burley’ is just under a mile away, This really is a quiet and tranquil inner Forest location with open woodland and meadows surrounding. Burley is only a few minutes drive from the A31 which is the main dual carriageway leading from the M27 Southampton) to the Ringwood and Bournemouth area. Close to the house are stunning horse rides, country walks and a course fishing lake
The village of Burley is steeped in history, with evidence of Saxon occupation in the name; Burley is composed of two Saxon words, ‘burgh’ meaning fortified place, and ‘leah’, meaning open meadow or clearing in a wood. Ponies and cattle roam freely through the village following ancient forest tracks that have been used for centuries by Commoners and their livestock. This village is one of the few remaining that still practices the old tradition of Commoning, which allows animals to graze on the open forest. Burley is one of the most popular villages within the New Forest and visitors are offered a wealth of attractions which include tea rooms, traditional inns and pubs, wagonette rides (in season), bike hire, forest walks, horse riding, the famous Burley Ice Cream and even a cider farm which offers free tasting!

SELLER INSIGHT
I have wonderful memories of staying in this cottage when we used to come on family holidays to the New Forest when I was a child. We would visit all of the local villages, walk in the forest, and go crabbing in Mudeford which was a lot of fun. My father bought the property as a holiday home and it’s been in our family now for over 50 years,” says the owner.
“When I subsequently purchased the property from my father, it was in need of refurbishment and I have since extended the kitchen and dining room, added a utility room, and an extra bedroom with ensuite. The patio has been extended at the rear of the property which makes for a lovely space to relax and entertain.”

“We enjoy walking to Mill Lawn with our dogs and there are some other lovely walks within the forest on the way to Brockenhurst where there are great big spaces to run around. I often meet up with friends in the Burley Manor for coffee, and our local pub, The White Buck, is just a 5-minute walk up the road. I must also mention Shappen Stores which is a nice little place to buy locally sourced food and delicacies, as do the farm shops in Crow. Bournemouth and Southampton have a wide range of shops and amenities, as does Ringwood and the Furlong Centre. We also have local events taking place in the village, including Jubilee celebrations and the Coronation.”
“The property is perfect for day-to-day family life and entertaining. We’ve celebrated some big events here, including birthday cocktail parties with 30 guests who joined us in the kitchen / dining room which is the heart of our home. It’s a brilliant room as there’s plenty of space for us all to be together cooking and chatting at the table, so the nominated chef isn’t left out. We’ve also hosted a family reunion in the garden which is an amazing sun trap in the summer.”*
