SELLER INSIGHT We first saw Victory when it was snowing,” say the current owners, “and as we walked through the door we immediately felt how cosy, warm and welcoming the cottage was. With logs burning on the fire and food being cooked on the AGA, the house seemed to give us a big hug and invite us to stay…which we did.” Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property. “The house was only 2 up and 2 down when we arrived,” they say, “but we have sympathetically extended it to create a flexible, spacious family home complete with first floor stained glass window. Many visitors assume that the extensions we have added have always been there, as they blend so seamlessly with the old part of the house. Plenty of period features remain, including in the master bedroom with its high ceiling and balcony, and in the studio/study with its vaulted ceiling, balconies and lovely views.” Outside, the gardens have been just as well cared for. “I have been a keen gardener for many years,” says the owner, “and I think the garden reflects this with all the different plants and shrubs it contains. There are different areas in the garden which have different atmospheres and there is always a sunny part or two to be found in one of the many seating areas. The garden also offers great privacy even though it is in the centre of the village, being set back from the lane. Yet in the winter, you can see the surrounding countryside both to the back and the front of the house through the bare branches of the trees.” The location of the property has much to recommend it, too. “Hellidon is a special village with a great sense of community and fun,” say the owners. “We have some wonderful long-time friends here whom we shall miss a lot. For a small place a lot goes on and there is still a thriving village pub as well as the church, the golf club, the village hall and post office. During the pandemic in particular, the community has been very supportive of one another. Hellidon is in a lovely part of the world and there are plenty of beautiful walks, long or short, that you can take from the village. The Jurassic Way passes through, so it is not unusual to see groups of walkers setting off from the pub or walking through the village. We have three lakes in the village, a windmill and there is a viaduct very close by. The rolling hills add interest to all the beautiful surrounding countryside. Further, Hellidon is very well placed to access but not be troubled by several motorways; M1, M6, M40 and M42.
