The popular Ring o’ Bells in nearby Compton Martin enjoys a good reputation. This thriving community also has pond, village hall and post office. Nearby West Harptree has a General Store with delicatessen, post office, church and pub. A further selection of shops and facilities are available at Chew Magna about 4 miles away. Nearby Ubley has a preschool and primary and is in the catchment for the well-regarded Chew Valley Secondary School. Private schooling is available at Wells Cathedral School, Millfield in Street and Sidcot Quaker School in Sidcot. There is also an excellent choice of private schools in both Bristol and Bath.

The area enjoys a reputation for outdoor activities with Blagdon and Chew Valley Lakes being on the doorstep for sailing and walking.
