3D PRINTING What 3D Printing Is

How 3D Printing Works

Education can now be part of this ground breaking technology and your students can experience how 3D printing will change our lives! 3D printing is a process of making 3 dimensional solid objects from a digital file. This works by laying down successive layers of material until the entire object is created.

It starts by making a virtual design of the object you want to create, either using a CAD (Computer Aided Design) file using a 3D modelling program or a 3D scanner. To prepare the digital file the software slices the final model into horizontal layers. The 3D printer reads every slice (or 2D image) and proceeds to create the object blending each layer together, resulting in a 3 dimensional object.
