5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it but you still may not find anything odd. If you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching Your Age by Eating Out or by Diner & Restaurant Maths in 2008 First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat. (more than once but less than 10) Multiply this number by 2, add 5, multiply it by 50 If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758. If you haven't, add 1757.

Now subtract the four digit year that you were born and you should have a three digit number The first digit of this was your original number. (How many times you want to eat out in a week.) The next two numbers are your age.

‘FROM THE RECTORY’ Dear Reader, As I write this, our world is engulged by crises - the Syrian crisis, the climate crisis, the Brexit crisis and now the corona virus crisis. Hundreds have died because of this new virus, thousands are infected and millions all over the world face lockdown. In our own country, we are told that schools may have to be closed, employees working from home and church halls shut. Anxiety and panic is all around us with supermarket shelves empty is some parts of the land.

It is sometimes easy to dismiss this threat as media hype. Undoubtedly, the media has a tendency to over-dramatise the news. But this virus is real, not imaginary, and we all need to practice good personal hygiene. Still, good hygiene alone is never going to keep anybody completely safe. In the ancient world of the Hebrews, they had plenty of experience with pestilences and plagues. It was in that context that one of their poets wrote thus: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you - Psalm 91:1-7 This was the faith which kept our fathers and mothers during the dark days of the war. It is the same faith that shall keep us too.

CESSPIT EMPTYING SERVICE

March 11, 2020 Chair of West Norfolk CCG wishes patients healthy futures as he steps down from role The date of the merger of the NHS Norfolk and Waveney clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and the formation of the new single CCG is nearly upon us. My last day as Chair of West Norfolk CCG is 31 March. The new CCG’s west locality team is up and running under our locality director Howard Martin and I will be chairing the last West Norfolk CCG Governing Body meeting on Thursday, 26 March at the West Norfolk Deaf Association building in Railway Road, King’s Lynn, at 9-15am.

I will be sad to say good-bye to West Norfolk CCG. I think it has done an excellent job in focussing on the health issues facing the population, and the problems faced by healthcare providers, in west Norfolk. During its tenure West Norfolk CCG has been able to give local support to healthcare providers and has had a greater understanding of the different needs of people living in the west of the county.

Those lessons and ways of working will now be continued as the new CCG will have a locality focus, with specific teams based in key geographic areas, including the west. This will give each area a voice and a dedicated workforce to ensure they can focus on local issues.

Each locality has a Local Delivery Group (LDG) as part of the work to transform health and care services locally. This group is represented by all the providers of healthcare in the area, including voluntary sector organisations and primary care. It also has patient representation and involves social care providers and in the west, the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, which is responsible for so many local services and initiatives. The West Norfolk LDG is an especially vibrant and energised group in which each organisation wants to help the others to deliver the best care possible so we can continue to drive down health inequalities and new ways of working in west Norfolk.

We have supported the new executive team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn to deliver improvements following challenging Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports in the last two years. That is bearing fruit as there have been some very noticeable improvements at the Trust which we will hear more about at our next Governing Body meeting.

FINCHAM WI Fourteen members met in the Memorial Hall for the March meeting.

A Birthday posy was presented to S Westwood and another to P Biggs after the meeting.

The table flowers were presented, after the meeting, to I Delderfield who has been unwell.

The Speaker for the evening was a returning visitor, namely Philip West, who showed slides and talked about “Crabs, Cliffs and Coasters.” He talked about the changing coastline between Wells and Cromer - many of the changes have been due to erosion and flooding. Members were informed that villages such as Stiffkey, Weyborne and Blakeney were much bigger ports in the past, their demise largely due to the coming of the railways. It was another fascinating insight into a way of life which has disappeared for ever.

The competition – A Photo of anywhere on the Norfolk coast – was won by: 1st — A Wiseman, 2nd – W Bell, 3rd – S Amies, 4th – A Bloy and C Dungay.

FINCHAM GROUP NEWS Our monthly coffee mornings resumed on Wednesday March 11, and it was lovely to welcome so many visitors, some of whom had not previously attended.

It’s a great way to get out to meet other people, to have a coffee and piece of homemade cake or sausage roll. We will be holding our next coffee morning on Wednesday 8th April, but this will be subject to any guidance that we may have in relation to Covid-19, the coronavirus that at the time of writing has reached 590 cases in the UK, but which has not been reported in Norfolk. We hope that the spread is not as dramatic and drastic as suggested.

Friday 24th July - Fincham History Group Stewart Waterson will be giving a talk on the diary of Rev. William Blyth who was a Rector of Fincham in the 1860s. This will depend on the state of affairs…….

“The room was warm and clean, the curtains drawn …” The classic short tale of ‘The Lamb to the Slaughter’ unfolded lesson by lesson throughout the day as students took part in shared reading. As part of World Book Day our readers in Years 7 to 9 enjoyed this ‘story with a twist’ from the celebrated author, Roald Dahl, learning of a very usual murder weapon and an ingenious method of disposal!

On a rather more charitable note our students were keen to raise funds for Sports Relief by ‘paying’ to dress in non-uniform. The ‘chinking of change’ and ‘shaking of money buckets’ full of £1 coins greeted everyone who entered the academy whether it be staff or students. Keen to raise even more money, the rather more ‘sporty’ students joined the Fun Run on the main field.

Still thinking of charity our students in Year 10 plan to raise money to buy Easter Eggs for the children in the Local Hospice, to be delivered by the East Anglian off Roaders Club. We will keep you posted on their efforts.

Meanwhile, frying pans at the ready, our intrepid team of pancake flippers entered the annual pancake race in the town organised by the Swaffham and District Lions Club. As the sun shone they followed the age old tradition competing for the highly sought after winners ‘engraved frying pan’. Just pipped at the post in the final heat, we are eagerly looking forward to trying our skills at next year’s event!

Also demonstrating great skill, one of our students found that he had quite a talent when on a recent trip out of school beating a professional gymnast at ‘planking’. Year 10 students from TNHA visited the Norfolk Skills and Careers Festival in Norwich where they were able to discover the vast range of opportunities available to them. With over 100 exhibitors from a wide range of industries, the event was designed to inspire students to turn their favourite subjects into the qualifications they may need to either apply for apprenticeships, jobs or to study a degree.

Finally, despite admitting to being “total novices”, the Bond-Green family who have two children studying with us, have had amazing success at Crufts no less!

Their gorgeous home bred puppy, a French bulldog, classed as a utility breed, appeared in the minor puppy class for those aged 6 to 9 months. She emerged the winner and certainly as far as we are concerned - the absolute ‘Star of the Show.’ What an amazing experience for the family and of course the wonderful ‘Pale Tulip’ herself. We look forward to hearing more about her undoubtedly very bright future.

ALL SAINTS’, SHOULDHAM Commemorative Service – As indicated in the last edition, the planned service to mark the 150th anniversary of the complete restoration of Shouldham church took place at Morning Prayer on Sunday, 1st March, led by Lay Reader, Pat Blyth. She had prepared an excellent variation of our normal MP service and incorporated a number of features that were used at the original re-dedication service in 1870. Thanks to Tim Peers' swift researches into the Norwich Mercury of the period, we now know much more about the people, costs and details of the services, etc., that were involved in the rebuilding and adorning of what was previously a rather plain thatched structure. The major driving force for this 19th century restoration was the tireless vicar, Rev. William Maxey Allen; and the principal benefactor was the then Sir Thomas, whose family owned rather more land in this parish than the Stow estate does at present. To build the entire new chancel, re-roof the entire church in slate, add battlements to the tower, plus two new bells and bell-frame, cost the princely sum of £1,307 7s.

5d!! (of which good Sir Thomas gave £1,073 and the village gave the remainder). To cover such work today would be over 100 times as much, an indication of how prices have risen, mostly since the two World Wars.

In her sermon, Pat emphasised the need to keep our parish churches in a good state of repair – if for no other reason than they are places where any person may go for peace and quiet in this hectic modern world. She also referred to certain churches as being “thin”. Apparently, this term has been applied especially to some places of pilgrimage where worshippers may experience the veil between heavenly and earthly things being drawn back, not something that most of us in the congregation had heard of. We were able to sing one the hymns used in 1870 – 'Christ is made the sure foundation' – as well as the psalm chosen by W. M. Allen at the laying of the original foundation stone in 1868, Ps. 127: 'Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it'.

The refreshments after the service included an iced cake (with celebratory candle) made by Ann Carpenter and some dainty buns provided by Gill Button.

Our thanks to Pat for taking a most appropriate service; to Tim for researching the newspaper archives; and to those who gave the delicious cakes. In the summer, it is hoped the bell-ringers may mark this significant anniversary with a Quarter Peal.

ADVICE FROM THE BISHOPS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS THREAT It is our view, in light of the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, that it is now necessary to suspend the administration of the chalice as well as physical contact during the sharing of the peace, blessing or "laying on of hands".

We therefore advise that all priests should:1. Offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated bread/wafer/host, with the priest alone taking the wine; 2. Suspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the peace; 3. Suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’.

BENEFICE PAGE Dear Friends You may have heard that the Church of England is suspending all services, with the exception of funerals and weddings, until further notice (as at 19th March 2020). This will include all PCC and APCM meetings, the Lent Course, the Youth Centre, Clubs and any other groups. You should postpone all meetings and gatherings forthwith. The Wissey Valley Benefice has decided to hold a short worship service, at 9.30am every Sunday by joining together, virtually in our own individual homes.

A Morning Prayer Service entitled 'Virtually Together' has been produced; see below, and join in with us if you wish. If not use the short service at any time convenient to you.

During this time it is important that we show our commitment to caring for each other and our community and particularly keeping vulnerable people safe from infection- and that includes you and me.

If you do not receive emails I am sure that the editors will arrange for a copy to be sent to you.

Please, in this difficult and rapidly unfolding situation, keep each other in your prayers and where possible, and practical, look out for each other, as I know that you will. During this time it is important that we show our commitment to caring for each other and our community and particularly keeping vulnerable people safe from infection- and that includes you and me.

ADVICE FROM THE BISHOPS DURING THE CORONAVIRUS THREAT It is our view, in light of the continued increase of Covid-19 cases in the United Kingdom, that it is now necessary to suspend the administration of the chalice as well as physical contact during the sharing of the peace, blessing or "laying on of hands".

We therefore advise that all priests should:1. Offer Communion in one kind only to all communicants i.e. the consecrated bread/wafer/host, with the priest alone taking the wine; 2. Suspend handshaking or other direct physical contact during the sharing of the peace; 3. Suspend direct physical contact as part of a blessing or ‘laying on of hands’.

“The room was warm and clean, the curtains drawn …” The classic short tale of ‘The Lamb to the Slaughter’ unfolded lesson by lesson throughout the day as students took part in shared reading. As part of World Book Day our readers in Years 7 to 9 enjoyed this ‘story with a twist’ from the celebrated author, Roald Dahl, learning of a very usual murder weapon and an ingenious method of disposal!

On a rather more charitable note our students were keen to raise funds for Sports Relief by ‘paying’ to dress in non-uniform. The ‘chinking of change’ and ‘shaking of money buckets’ full of £1 coins greeted everyone who entered the academy whether it be staff or students. Keen to raise even more money, the rather more ‘sporty’ students joined the Fun Run on the main field.

Still thinking of charity our students in Year 10 plan to raise money to buy Easter Eggs for the children in the Local Hospice, to be delivered by the East Anglian off Roaders Club. We will keep you posted on their efforts.

Meanwhile, frying pans at the ready, our intrepid team of pancake flippers entered the annual pancake race in the town organised by the Swaffham and District Lions Club. As the sun shone they followed the age old tradition competing for the highly sought after winners ‘engraved frying pan’. Just pipped at the post in the final heat, we are eagerly looking forward to trying our skills at next year’s event!

Also demonstrating great skill, one of our students found that he had quite a talent when on a recent trip out of school beating a professional gymnast at ‘planking’. Year 10 students from TNHA visited the Norfolk Skills and Careers Festival in Norwich where they were able to discover the vast range of opportunities available to them. With over 100 exhibitors from a wide range of industries, the event was designed to inspire students to turn their favourite subjects into the qualifications they may need to either apply for apprenticeships, jobs or to study a degree.

Finally, despite admitting to being “total novices”, the Bond-Green family who have two children studying with us, have had amazing success at Crufts no less!

Their gorgeous home bred puppy, a French bulldog, classed as a utility breed, appeared in the minor puppy class for those aged 6 to 9 months. She emerged the winner and certainly as far as we are concerned - the absolute ‘Star of the Show.’ What an amazing experience for the family and of course the wonderful ‘Pale Tulip’ herself. We look forward to hearing more about her undoubtedly very bright future.

ALL SAINTS’, SHOULDHAM Commemorative Service – As indicated in the last edition, the planned service to mark the 150th anniversary of the complete restoration of Shouldham church took place at Morning Prayer on Sunday, 1st March, led by Lay Reader, Pat Blyth. She had prepared an excellent variation of our normal MP service and incorporated a number of features that were used at the original re-dedication service in 1870. Thanks to Tim Peers' swift researches into the Norwich Mercury of the period, we now know much more about the people, costs and details of the services, etc., that were involved in the rebuilding and adorning of what was previously a rather plain thatched structure. The major driving force for this 19th century restoration was the tireless vicar, Rev. William Maxey Allen; and the principal benefactor was the then Sir Thomas, whose family owned rather more land in this parish than the Stow estate does at present. To build the entire new chancel, re-roof the entire church in slate, add battlements to the tower, plus two new bells and bell-frame, cost the princely sum of £1,307 7s.

5d!! (of which good Sir Thomas gave £1,073 and the village gave the remainder). To cover such work today would be over 100 times as much, an indication of how prices have risen, mostly since the two World Wars.

In her sermon, Pat emphasised the need to keep our parish churches in a good state of repair – if for no other reason than they are places where any person may go for peace and quiet in this hectic modern world. She also referred to certain churches as being “thin”. Apparently, this term has been applied especially to some places of pilgrimage where worshippers may experience the veil between heavenly and earthly things being drawn back, not something that most of us in the congregation had heard of. We were able to sing one the hymns used in 1870 – 'Christ is made the sure foundation' – as well as the psalm chosen by W. M. Allen at the laying of the original foundation stone in 1868, Ps. 127: 'Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it'.

The refreshments after the service included an iced cake (with celebratory candle) made by Ann Carpenter and some dainty buns provided by Gill Button.

Our thanks to Pat for taking a most appropriate service; to Tim for researching the newspaper archives; and to those who gave the delicious cakes. In the summer, it is hoped the bell-ringers may mark this significant anniversary with a Quarter Peal.

FINCHAM GROUP NEWS Our monthly coffee mornings resumed on Wednesday March 11, and it was lovely to welcome so many visitors, some of whom had not previously attended.

It’s a great way to get out to meet other people, to have a coffee and piece of homemade cake or sausage roll. We will be holding our next coffee morning on Wednesday 8th April, but this will be subject to any guidance that we may have in relation to Covid-19, the coronavirus that at the time of writing has reached 590 cases in the UK, but which has not been reported in Norfolk. We hope that the spread is not as dramatic and drastic as suggested.

Friday 24th July - Fincham History Group Stewart Waterson will be giving a talk on the diary of Rev. William Blyth who was a Rector of Fincham in the 1860s. This will depend on the state of affairs…….

FINCHAM WI Fourteen members met in the Memorial Hall for the March meeting.

A Birthday posy was presented to S Westwood and another to P Biggs after the meeting.

The table flowers were presented, after the meeting, to I Delderfield who has been unwell.

The Speaker for the evening was a returning visitor, namely Philip West, who showed slides and talked about “Crabs, Cliffs and Coasters.” He talked about the changing coastline between Wells and Cromer - many of the changes have been due to erosion and flooding. Members were informed that villages such as Stiffkey, Weyborne and Blakeney were much bigger ports in the past, their demise largely due to the coming of the railways. It was another fascinating insight into a way of life which has disappeared for ever.

The competition – A Photo of anywhere on the Norfolk coast – was won by: 1st — A Wiseman, 2nd – W Bell, 3rd – S Amies, 4th – A Bloy and C Dungay.

March 11, 2020 Chair of West Norfolk CCG wishes patients healthy futures as he steps down from role The date of the merger of the NHS Norfolk and Waveney clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and the formation of the new single CCG is nearly upon us. My last day as Chair of West Norfolk CCG is 31 March. The new CCG’s west locality team is up and running under our locality director Howard Martin and I will be chairing the last West Norfolk CCG Governing Body meeting on Thursday, 26 March at the West Norfolk Deaf Association building in Railway Road, King’s Lynn, at 9-15am.

I will be sad to say good-bye to West Norfolk CCG. I think it has done an excellent job in focussing on the health issues facing the population, and the problems faced by healthcare providers, in west Norfolk. During its tenure West Norfolk CCG has been able to give local support to healthcare providers and has had a greater understanding of the different needs of people living in the west of the county.

Those lessons and ways of working will now be continued as the new CCG will have a locality focus, with specific teams based in key geographic areas, including the west. This will give each area a voice and a dedicated workforce to ensure they can focus on local issues.

Each locality has a Local Delivery Group (LDG) as part of the work to transform health and care services locally. This group is represented by all the providers of healthcare in the area, including voluntary sector organisations and primary care. It also has patient representation and involves social care providers and in the west, the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, which is responsible for so many local services and initiatives. The West Norfolk LDG is an especially vibrant and energised group in which each organisation wants to help the others to deliver the best care possible so we can continue to drive down health inequalities and new ways of working in west Norfolk.

We have supported the new executive team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn to deliver improvements following challenging Care Quality Commission (CQC) reports in the last two years. That is bearing fruit as there have been some very noticeable improvements at the Trust which we will hear more about at our next Governing Body meeting.

‘FROM THE RECTORY’ Dear Reader, As I write this, our world is engulged by crises - the Syrian crisis, the climate crisis, the Brexit crisis and now the corona virus crisis. Hundreds have died because of this new virus, thousands are infected and millions all over the world face lockdown. In our own country, we are told that schools may have to be closed, employees working from home and church halls shut. Anxiety and panic is all around us with supermarket shelves empty is some parts of the land.

It is sometimes easy to dismiss this threat as media hype. Undoubtedly, the media has a tendency to over-dramatise the news. But this virus is real, not imaginary, and we all need to practice good personal hygiene. Still, good hygiene alone is never going to keep anybody completely safe. In the ancient world of the Hebrews, they had plenty of experience with pestilences and plagues. It was in that context that one of their poets wrote thus: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you - Psalm 91:1-7 This was the faith which kept our fathers and mothers during the dark days of the war. It is the same faith that shall keep us too.

5. This is an unusual paragraph. I'm curious as to just how quickly you can find out what is so unusual about it. It looks so ordinary and plain that you would think nothing was wrong with it. In fact, nothing is wrong with it! It is highly unusual though. Study it and think about it but you still may not find anything odd. If you work at it a bit, you might find out. Try to do so without any coaching Your Age by Eating Out or by Diner & Restaurant Maths in 2008 First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to go out to eat. (more than once but less than 10) Multiply this number by 2, add 5, multiply it by 50 If you have already had your birthday this year add 1758. If you haven't, add 1757.
