SOPHIA ESPINO Sophia Espino is an 18-year-old Grade 12 student of De La Salle University - Dasmariñas under the Humanities and Social Science Strand. She is known as a person who always does her best in anything and everything she does, having her background in skating, ballet, and dancing as living proof. Sophia enjoys hanging out with her friends and retail shopping, and lately, she has been addicted to driving since she recently just became comfortable and confident with it. In addition to this, you can't spell Sophia without the love for traveling that molded her to she has become a person who gets inspiration to write and do things from traveling. She also loves learning about different cultures and their people.

ERIN MADLANGBAYAN Erin Madlangbayan is a 17-year-old Grade 12 student of De La Salle University - Dasmariñas under the Humanities and Social Science Strand.

She is known to be an all-around person, pursuing different things simultaneously as she highly believes that growth can only be achieved if we try things as much as we can, even if it would scare us. From business to academics, to sports such as volleyball and karate to music, and up to baking , extracurriculars, debate and organizations, you can see Erin place herself in between those. Peaking more to her new interests, from having a fear of failing, Erin is now deeply in love with writing research papers, having her team previously be granted the 1st Rank for the Saint Benilde Research Grant Scholarship.

CECILIA PARAON Cecilia Paraon is an 18-year-old Grade 12 student of De La Salle University - Dasmariñas. She is the youngest among their three siblings. She tried a lot of hobbies, but music has been in her heart ever since. Besides being a drummer in their band during her Junior High School years, she also performed in various school events and debuts, which helped her gain more confidence in public performance. As she grew up, Cecilia gained a lot of knowledge about being a student-leader both inside and outside the university. She also loves playing computer games with her friends and significant other in her past time and reading books by Lang Leav, Michael Faudet, and Rupi Kaur, which she considers her favorites.

As the years pass, we cannot deny that we can see evident progress within society as digitalization becomes the norm. Life became more accessible, efficient, and effortless as media became an essential aspect of everyday life, but not for women as although there is apparent leverage with the 21st century, women's lives are still not easy as society continues to crimple the worth of women with the advantage of media.

Instead of alleviating women's lives, society utilizes the platform to continuously step on women's values in today's world, shaping society's perspective that women would always be inferior and below men. "Weak, sensitive, choosy, and bossy" are a few of the current adjectives that society refers to women that you would always hear and read as you scroll through the media, which is very much disheartening as to why does society progress with such development with technology but seems to forget to use such progress in good deeds?

Why must we use media, a significant sign of progress, as an avenue to devalue women? As a platform to showcase discrimination towards women? This then questions the success of the “progress” we are pertaining to as we must remember that no progress would be recognized and acknowledged as a success if we negatively impact even a single aspect. A “progress” isn’t actually progress if there’s a specific sector that does not actually feel progressive and instead experiences the opposite. With that, we are proud to present our first publication of our EMagazine entitled Abante Babae to serve as a memoir that women are not just women as they are not how our media paints them to be, how the media paints us to be as we are more than what society expects us to be.

Included in this magazine are the successful assessments that we hope, as you scroll through, will be a wake-up call that women are equally as strong, capable, and successful as men could be and that women are not inferior to men. Women can be represented in our progressing media in a better light; hence having this magazine serves as a symbol of blooming hope that society would stop seeing women in a different negative light and a fueling power to women’s push for equality. There’s nothing we editors wish for any individual who would read and flip

through our magazine but to be reminded that if we want to attain the whole positive connotation of the 21st century, we must never use it to someone’s disadvantage.

Instead, we must use the media to uplift, prove and recognize everyone equally. We can only acknowledge the “abante” of our media and technology in the 21st century if we omit the negative influence of it towards women for them to also have their “abante”.

Media aims to be a progressive avenue; therefore we must uphold its genuine intention. "Abante" Media, "Abanta" Babae.

The assessment required us to choose a Filipino norm or practice except courtship that is related to media and then to compare the preferred norm or practice from its old to the new one being practiced.

SOPHIA ESPINO With all the types of information being easily available nowadays, learning text and media is of such huge importance. Learning text and information media helps people to disseminate proper accurate information, and it is also significant in data collection or research as well as just simply reading a book or a poem because it can help us understand better when we learn these. Text and information media also reduces the chance of error because the content may be checked before being released given that we are knowledgeable about such things (Sendon and Ramos,n.d). As a student of the HUMSS strand, being knowledgeable about this will help me a lot in writing essays, research, poems, critiquing literary works, and even making publication materials. With the knowledge of learning text and information media, I know which things I need to put emphasis on, which are true and false, and I also know how to organize information and make publication materials properly.

ERIN MADLANGBAYAN Since our society is progressing in the 21st century, it is vitally significant for us to learn about text and information media because digitalization is growing to be society’s essential factor; thus, having no knowledge of text and information media garner us various disadvantages that do not only drag our progress as an individual but as society as a whole behind. Such disadvantage exists in education, work, and everyday lives as it hinders us from communicating with other people, identifying if the information is factual or not, awareness of current and relevant social issues, and limiting our growth since media is the primary source of information. Furthermore, it is significant because it is our responsibility so we would be responsible citizens in the 21st century (Garcia-Ruiz, 2016), considering that it is now an essential aspect of our life we cannot remove and how it is the heart of freedom of speech.

In a more direct and micro personal analogy, encompassing media literacy as a HUMSS student would help empower my ability to evaluate, analyze and think critically, which is vital if I want to produce good writings that our strand demands us to suffice generated from credible and reliable sources. Plus, it acquires me the capability to access a more comprehensive range of information to be a better student that would provide me leverage as a HUMSS student who wants to pursue law as it waters my growth.

CECILIA PARAON Learning text and information is important because it helps us understand the message that other people are trying to tell. It can also help us identify the truth by finding credible sources. We become responsible decision-makers and spreaders of truthful news when learning about text and information.

As Grade 12 HUMSS students, we were asked to do essays, infographics, research, etc. I need to be responsible for disseminating information. I need to make sure that they are all credible and true. I also need to make sure that my target audience can understand what I am trying to tell using layman's terms.

Design Me is a group assessment where the author's respective groups were assigned to put their knowledge into practice and showcase that they have what it takes to be a good producer of text information and media. The authors were challenged together with their respective group to perform the needed design elements and principles, color palette, and typefaces fit for the following profession, context, theme, which fortunately they successfully did as seen in these final outputs.

Given that Cecilia and Erin are grouped with each other, the authors only have 2 outputs.

The output above is from the team of Cecilia and Erin that implies the instructions on how to download Microsoft teams on desktop and the one on the left is from Sophia’s team that showcases how to select what to binge-watch on Netflix.

However, despite being in different teams, it is evident how both outputs utilize the themes of their chosen media, which is a smart idea to automatically give the readers a grasp on what the content is all about.

“Have some responsibility” is an assessment wherein the authors of this magazine were tasked to record themselves as they explain what is a responsible media user only in one minute. Although it was a challenge as there is a lot to unpack for the given topic, Erin, Sophia and Cecilia were able to push through and even succeeded to mention the 5 desired traits of a responsible media user that the assessment also required them to respond.

“1 Minute Now Hiring!” is a video assessment wherein the authors squeeze their creative juices to produce a 1-minute promodizer video with their chosen manipulative media of either a traditional or a digital one. In the span of 1 minute, they need to promote the chosen manipulative media’s purpose, feature, use, cost, durability, accessibility, and reliability to convince their audience to purchase or download the media they are promoting while also showcasing their creativity when it comes to editing and other technicalities.

Each of the output did not only manifest the needed valuable information but also the elements to successfully convey those information.

The one in the landscape orientation is Erin and Cecilia’s group final output that tackles the issue of cyberbullying while incorporating the essence of the DLSU-D schoolbook to give off the impression that its target audience is the Lasallian. On the other hand, the ad in the portrait orientation is the output of Sophia’s group that showcases the issue with regard to information disorder while upholding the theme of green and white and the utilization of background images to showcase the impression of its target audience same as to Cecilia and Erin’s Group.
