Monkey Drama tells the story of the once endangered folk art of monkey drama and the survival and development of the Chinese village against the backdrop of the unique architecture of China’s traditional rural communities. This movie emphasises the theme of “recognizing nostalgia and inheriting civilization”. It gives us a slice of life in the traditional village of XinYe, in Henan province, where Chengen Wu, the writer of ‘Journey to the West’, took office as a county magistrate during the Ming Dynasty. The stage of this story: the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the buildings and landscape of China’s rustic landscape.
