VENEERS V/S LUMINEERS

Veneers are a treatment option, dentists use, to cover discolored or broken teeth so they appear glossy and white. Traditionally, veneers are made of porcelain material. They are cosmetic coatings for your natural teeth and resistant to staining and most appropriate in cases where teeth appear to be yellowed or brown, or showing signs of decay or staining. Your dentist will make a mold of your prepared teeth and make you temporary acrylic veneers. A dental laboratory will fabricate a custom set of porcelain veneers from the mold. Veneers take approximately 2 to 4 weeks to be made and your dentist will then cement the veneers to your prepared teeth using a special bonding solution. Traditional veneers can last 8 to 10 years on average, with high success rates up to 20 years.

Lumineers are a brand of veneers that take less preparation and advanced dental work than traditional veneers. They are made of “ultra-thin” laminate and are more translucent than veneers. You don’t have to grind your teeth to thin them before application. Your dentist will have a customized set of Lumineers made for your specific treatment needs. They last between 10 and 20 years

Crowns are another type of tooth covering that cover an entire tooth, as opposed to veneers, which only cover the front of your teeth. A crown is a treatment for a tooth that’s severely damaged. A veneer may not be able to fully cover a tooth that’s broken down from cavities, badly positioned, or extremely discolored. your dentist will then cement the veneers to your don’t have to grind your teeth to thin them before

RISING STRONG

ARJUN KAPOOR

surge ahead at the Box Office boosted by the success of his menacing antagonist role of Danger Lanka in Rohit ShettY's Singham Again. The power role hit home with the audience and single-handedly put ArjuN's career trajectory in an upswing as the masses reconnected with the actor. Not the kinds to shy away from taking risks or be swayed by opinions of others, Arjun confesses that this acceptance from the audience was a much-needed validation for his fearless choices. "Success thaT's propelled by the validation from the audience does bring a certain confidence and calm," He says and perhaps iT's this confidence, calm and determination that spells the 2.0 version of Arjun Kapoor. Having navigated rather challenging phases through his 12 years in the industry, the staR's performance in Singham Again has clearly reaffirmed his belief in his abilities and choices, making him more driven than ever. I catch up with the actor over a zoom call, where in a candid chat he talks about his transformative journey, the lessons learned and what it means to be Arjun Kapoor 2.0!

WERE YOU EXPECTING YOUR VILLAINOUS CHARACTER IN SINGHAM AGAIN TO TURN OUT TO BE SO LARGER-THAN-LIFE?

The Singham franchise and Rohit Shetty Sir directing is something that I’ve loved so I always knew that it has a lot of value. I didn’t know personally for me it would be this reflective so immediately. I always hope to be part of a good film and a hit film and that always helps in building new connections or win old connections back with the audience. So, I did it purely from that point of view that there is a certain audience that is inbuilt with the franchise and with the actor-director combination. So I thought yaar, log unka kaam dekhne aayenge, mera kaam pasand karenge to accha hi hoga. And that’s exactly what

has happened. So I’m really happy that my thought process has been validated by the film.

YOUR PHYSICAL TRANSFORMATION ALSO GOT MUCH SPOKEN ABOUT…

They wanted me to look a certain way, to look like I can break people with my bare hands. They wanted that physicality, the shoulders, and for me to look like a mountain when I’m standing in front of all these characters. And that became a strength, right?

I’m a guy who is structured in a certain way, so we just added volume to it and I just held onto it. With the beard and the hair and the shoulders and then having the black kurta open, I just looked like a guy who can take on somebody with their bare hands. So the physicality was part of the performance.

IT DEFINITELY WORKED… ARJUN KAPOOR 2.0 VERSION POST SINGHAM AGAIN BECAME ALL THE BUZZ!

Well, it’s good. It’s nice. I think you always want to feel loved and wanted

in this profession. It’s important, especially from the audience and the media because it’s not always necessary to be speaking, it’s more important to talk when there’s something to talk about. Aur aaj kal kaam ke baare mein baat karke maza aa raha hai. So, I’m very happy that people are liking me and they want to know and speak more to me.

TITLES APART, HOW ARE YOU DIFFERENT FROM THE OLD YOU?

My core strength is that I don't let the world affect me. I am who I am. My parents have brought me up in a way that I understand right and wrong. I'm a practical, pragmatic person. I don't get carried away with the success, I don't get carried away with the failure, it's all transient. And I've seen enough in life to understand people, understand circumstances and not take everything to heart. Even though I'm emotional, I still allow benefit of the doubt to exist and just flow. So that's a big strength to have. the in

Actors are, by nature, a bit moody and mercurial when it comes to saying yes and no. So to analyse a film 12 months later when it released and say I shouldn't have or should have done it, is a bit of a waste of time.

Main to vahi hoon. Matlab I’ve not changed. It wasn’t like on this certain date mere ander koi dusra insaan aa gaya (laughs). My core values are the same. I would hope that when you meet me or interact with me, you should feel that there is a certain positive energy that has come from the positive energy from the audience. Also there’s a validation of having believed in yourself and you feel happy that you’ve done some good work that the audience has also liked! Sometimes you feel that you’ve done good but it doesn’t get reciprocated by the audience and that makes you question your choices, your work, like do I need to work harder? This time my hard work felt validated because there was a connect with the audience. Your decisions feel validated, so, I don’t know if there’s a difference, but I think there’s happiness, there’s gratitude and there’s also a certain amount of calmness that success brings with it. There is no secret to that when some things align a certain way, it allows you to feel a little more relaxed and operate from a place of being more calm. I think I can feel that calmness within me. So that maybe is different!

Which is what I was saying ki yaar kaam to kar raha hoon, 12 saal se logo ne kaam diya hai kyunki mujhe kaam aata hai iss industry ke andar. No matter where you come from, nobody gives you work unless you’re good at it and good enough to be pulling off certain kind of roles. Of course, some decisions, some films have not panned out, perhaps my performances have suffered, perhaps the physicality went through ups and downs but I’m pretty honest about what I’ve said in the past also. But yes it feels nice to be validated for doing something that people have really enjoyed and that’s most important at the end of the day.

IYOU HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW HIGHS AND LOWS THROUGH YOUR JOURNEY WITH FILMS WORKING, SOME NOT, BUT AS AN ACTOR NOBODY COULD FAULT YOUR PERFORMANCE!

YOU’VE EXPLORED MULTIPLE SPACES AS AN ACTOR AND BEEN VERSATILE IN YOUR CHOICES. HAVE YOU FOUND A COMFORT ZONE YET OR IS THERE MORE THAT YOU’RE LOOKING FOR? No, no… I want to do everything. Audience has always hinted perhaps that they like me in these antagonistic kind of roles in the sense Ishaqzaade, Gunday, Aurangzeb, Ek Villain Returns, Sandeep aur Pinky Farar, you know they all had these dark shades. And then Singham Again is completely dark too, so it is definitely something that you want to explore more of, but at the same time I don’t want to get pigeon-holed and only do that. I also would like to do my… a Mubarakan, 2 States, Ki and Ka, Bhoot Police, so as many genres I possibly can. I did a Kuttey because, I was a bit grey in that also, but I also did Half Girlfriend and Panipat. Mujhe jo accha lagta hai as an audience, main haan bolta hoon.

There’s definitely clarity that this negative grey space is enjoyed by the audience, but I would also like to cultivate and learn as an actor to entertain people in other spaces too with the dramatic pieces, comedy, action, all of it.

WHAT IS THE CLOSEST THAT THE REAL ARJUN KAPOOR COMES TO?

How do I explain that! It’s a tough question to quantify in one answer! It’s tough for me to articulate what I am. But I guess I’m practical, a pragmatic person, I don’t like nonsense! I operate from a very secure place, so I’m somebody who’s always been straight-forward and have tried to conduct myself in that space, at least professionally. Personally I’m a big joker, I like to joke around, fool around, I have my humour, but that’s only for my close people. Also I think somewhere I’m very emotional at heart which also allows me in my profession to do stuff as an actor but also sometimes it gets a little difficult because dealing with people can be an emotional process for me. I’m a foodie also, so you never know within one interview you can see a couple of moods of my own. So yes, this is what I can answer about myself, again it’s nice if you could ask somebody else how they have perceived me over the last few years as Arjun Kapoor, the person.

YOU HAVE NEVER BEEN AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT, BUT WHEN SOME OF THE RISKS DO NOT WORK AT THE BOX OFFICE, DOES THAT MAKE YOU QUESTION YOUR CHOICES?

See in retrospect or hind sight, when you think about things aap har cheez ko naaptol ke dekhte ho ki ye karna chahiye tha, ya vo karna chahiye tha, but it’s very important for people to understand, that when you make a choice to do a film at that point your circumstances are making you say a yes or no. The circumstances may change after a month and you might have a different answer. Actors are, by nature, a bit moody and mercurial when it comes to saying

yes and no. So to analyse a film 12 months later when it released and say I shouldn’t have or should have done it, is a bit of a waste of time. We all do it, but it’s also a fact that back then there was a certain vision, maybe we expected the film to pan out a certain way, or you wanted to try a different genre or maybe the character appealed to me. So in retrospect it’s very easy to say ki yeh nahin karna chahiye tha ya woh karna chahiye tha, lekin aap ek bacche ki tarah imagine karte ho, you know the childlike imagination eventually makes you choose most of what you do, so you have to accept it instead of trying to regret it.

YOU HAVE ALSO BEEN ABLE TO CRACK THAT CLASSY VERSUS MASSY BALANCE…

I think because I’ve been a lover of mainstream films, I’ve always connected to that audience and it’s also translated in performances whether it was a Gunday or Tevar (although it didn’t work as much), but that in itself was searching for that identity with the mainstream. Also I think when you do a ‘Chhokra Jawan’ or ‘Tu ne Maari Entry’, the music also helps. And the quest remains even today. I think a SinghamAgain, like you said, has connected to the common man and the masses, you enjoy this mainstream cinema, even Ek Villain Returns was sort of a little more mainstream, and the audience we were trying to target at that point. So, I’ve never tried to alienate them. And I think Singham has helped re-galvanise that excitement towards me for the masses.

SO IS THERE ANY KIND OF A PRESSURE RIGHT NOW TO KIND OF CHOOSE YOUR NEXT MOVIES ALL THE MORE CAREFULLY? OR THE PROCESS DOESN’T CHANGE?

Now that you’ve said it, I do feel some pressure. I wasn’t thinking about that before this (laughs). I mean I’m in talks, figuring

it out, but it’s not pressure, as it’s also important to not let momentum take decision for you. So, I don’t want to rush into it. There are no brainers that you end up doing but you also want to measure a little bit, at least take stalk of where you are, what is exciting you as an actor, what your role is, what the material is, etc. So yeah, it’s a good pressure to have, not a bad pressure at all.

BUT HAVE YOU EVER BEEN BUOYED DOWN BY THE INDUSTRY TALKS OR HAVE THE PRESSURES EVER GOTTEN TO YOU?

I think what happens is that the industry doesn’t create pressure internally, but there’s a lot of external chatter that happens. Like I always say, negativity sells, that gets propelled a lot in the conversation and the chatter around you when you’re not the one talking. Most days you can turn a blind eye, some days you get affected by it. But when Rohit Shetty is casting you, he’s not going by the chatter around. He’s backing on the fact that you can play a role and I’m glad I had a Rohit Shetty in my life. For all the chaos and the noise and the nonsense, there’s a Rohit Shetty who doesn’t believe in all that and he backs you. So then when you’re thinking about holding onto yourself even with all that chaos, you feel validated ki aadmi ne aapko mauka diya to do something unique and then you feel more validated that you were right by not getting affected and just following your process because the audience today likes you so much more. So, vo noise hoti rehti hai, you have to learn to deal with it. There are bad days, there are good days. But at the end of the day, you have to hold onto yourself.

WHAT’S YOUR CORE STRENGTH?

My core strength is that I don’t let the world affect me. I am who I am. My parents have brought me up in a way that I understand right and wrong. I’m a practical, pragmatic person. I don’t get carried away with the success, I don’t get carried away with the failure, it’s all transient. And I’ve seen enough in life to understand people, understand circumstances and not take everything to heart. Even though I’m emotional, I still allow benefit of the doubt to exist and just flow. So that’s a big strength to have. Good if it doesn’t, better if it does. It’s one of those ki

accha ho to bhi theek hai, na bhi ho to bhi theek hai. You just go with the flow. Because things eventually pan out the way they’re supposed to.

AND WHAT’S THE ONE LESSON, OR AN ADVISE THAT YOU FOLLOW AS A RULE?

Suno sabki, karo apni. What comes from the heart or the mind or in that combination is largely correct! Instinct, impulse, gut, all these terminologies have value. So when you’re making decisions, of course take everybody’s suggestions into account, but eventually follow what you feel. You can assess people’s opinions, let them guide you, and eventually you should do something where you’re fully aligned. Otherwise don’t.

WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE ROMANTIC AT HEART OR MORE PRACTICAL?

I am an emotional person, that’s tough to say, but I am also practical in life. Like I am very realistic. So, I think I am a contradiction. I am romantic and I’m practical, I don’t know what side I lean to more, I think it’s situational and circumstance driven. Kabhi thoda practical zyada hota hoon, kabhi kabhi thoda romantic zyada hota hoon.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON LOVE TODAY, VIS-A-VIS WHEN YOU WERE IN YOUR EARLY 20S?

I think for me love today would have to be stability, peacefulness, calmness, being able to really enjoy the silences with your partner, being able to be comfortable around each other, and the friendship that you create, I think that really matters. I think in my earlier years, it was just the certain frantic nature to even romance or love, where it was about ticking the boxes about everything that’s supposed to be important. But as you grow up, you realise what’s important for you and for each person, their idea of love is different. So for me yeah, the companionship comes from the friendship and the ease and the ability to be in silences and I guess nothing beats friendship at the end of

the day today for you to have a long lasting relationship, equation and understanding, I guess.

A LOT OF MOMS SEE THEIR SON IN YOU, SO WHAT IS THAT ENDEARING QUALITY?

I don’t know! Main jo hoon, woh hi hoon. Main apni maa ka beta hoon! So when I represent her, I represent all the qualities that she’s taught me and I imbibe those. So I guess when mothers see me, they would like, hopefully, that the way I think or the way I behave or the way I carry myself, they would want their kids, their sons to have a certain way of conduct and also I do feel, because I’ve grown up around women a lot, the way I conduct myself around women perhaps gives mothers a belief that that’s the right way to be. It’s not that I only talk the talk, I also walk the walk in the way I’ve been in my personal space also. So perhaps that makes mothers feel that I’m one of them. So emotional connection accha hi hota hai.

IN YOUR UPCOMING FILM, MERE HUSBAND KI BIWI, YOU ARE PAIRED WITH RAKUL PREET SINGH AND BHUMI PEDNEKAR, TELL US MORE ABOUT IT, HOW WAS THE EQUATION ON THE SETS LIKE?

So shooting with Rakul and Bhumi was great fun, I have already worked with them, I know them personally, I’ve spent enough time with them, and I think the kind of film this was with Mudassar (director Mudassar Aziz) being involved, we were a pretty closeknit unit, enjoying, playing off each other where the comedy was concerned, where the chemistry was concerned. There’s a lot of ease with Bhumi because of the kind of person that she is. I

have always enjoyed the back and forth with her as an actress. She’s somebody who gives 100 per cent and she is willing to do more than what is there on papers so it’s great working with somebody like that. Rakul of course, she’s a great team player, great sport, always there on point, focused dedicated. So, I think when you have two actors who are willing to give 100 per cent and be dedicated to making the scene in the film work and be selfish and look at things from the film’s perspective, it’s always very enjoyable.

IT’S A LIGHT HEARTED COMEDY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY COMES EASIER TO YOU AS AN ACTOR - DOING COMEDY OR PLAYING INTENSE CHARACTERS?

I like both yaar. I like doing comedy and intense roles. I think that’s the fun of being an actoryou want to play on both sides of the corner. I think comedy is way tougher in the sense, you can try again and again but the freshness of doing the comedy comes from your reactions, the way you play off each other, getting the punch right. And for that you need a phenomenal director and people who can put it together nicely. So comedy is not only on the actor, but it’s also on how the other actors and the technicians and how it all comes together. I think intensity is something that is a very inherent, in built thing that exists within me so building a character around that, I wouldn’t say it’s easier but it’s a little more natural and what happens is that when you’re doing those, you’re very internal. I think in comedy, you have to be very aware and externalise a lot of things so I think in that sense there’s a slight difference between playing both of them but I enjoy playing both. But I think after Singham, it’s great fun to be doing a role like this where I can have fun and make people enjoy themselves in the theatre in a different way.

QUICK 5

IF YOUR LIFE HAD A THEME SONG, WHAT SONG WOULD IT BE?

There are two songs actually – One is from Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa that I have really always liked - ‘Woh toh hai albela, hazaaron mein akela, sadaa tumne aib dekha, hunar ko na dekha’. But these days I think there’s another song that I feel close to ‘Ajeeb daastan hai yeh, kahaan shuru kahaan khatam, yeh manzilein hain kaunsi, na tum samajh sake na hum’.

WHAT’S THE NAUGHTIEST THING YOU’VE DONE? I can’t tell.

HAVE YOU GOTTEN AWAY BECAUSE OF YOUR CHARM? Of course. All the time.

SO THAT MEANS THERE’S A LONG LIST OF THE NAUGHTIEST AND THE WILDEST THINGS THAT YOU’VE DONE… Yeah, but that’s the whole point - you can get away with it, varna aaj aapke samne baitha nahin hota.

ANY CRAZY FAN ENCOUNTER THAT LEFT YOU COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS?

No, I mean sometimes it’s a bit scary if it has blood and all that and meeting people can go a bit crazy, but that’s rare. It’s always been beautiful actually, more or less. I would say 99.99 per cent it has always been - you feel overwhelmed by the love. So craziness is a very scattered amount.

Negativity sells, that gets propelled a lot in the conversation and the chatter around you when you're not the one talking. Most days you can turn a blind eye, some days you get affected by it. But when Rohit Shetty is casting you, he's not going by the chatter around. He's backing on the fact that you can play a role and I'm glad I had a Rohit Shetty in my life. For all the chaos and the noise and the nonsense, there's a Rohit Shetty who doesn't believe in all that and he backs you

2025 IS LOOKING TO BE A REALLY EXCITING YEAR FOR YOU. WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO? 2025 has already been quite a ride — it’s not just about to start, it’s happening! I’m excited about exploring new opportunities, learning more about myself, and just living life to the fullest.

YOU HAVE A HUGE FAN FOLLOWING IN THE SOUTH, AND YOUR PAN-INDIA AUDIENCE IS EAGERLY WAITING FOR YOUR BOLLYWOOD DEBUT. HOW EXCITED ARE YOU ABOUT THAT?

I’ve always loved entertaining people, and now I get to do it on a bigger scale, which is incredibly exciting. Being in Mumbai a lot lately, I feel there’s so much more for me to explore about myself and as an artist.

WE ALL KNOW SREELEELA AS A STAR AND A LOVED ICON. WHAT IS THE REAL SREELEELA LIKE?

I think I’ll keep a little bit of that a mystery! As I learn about myself, so will everyone else — petal by petal. But I’d say I’m someone who values being grounded. I love studying, I enjoy having a task to focus on, and I’m always on the move. Chilling isn’t my forte, though I’m trying to get better at it!

YOUR MOTHER IS A DOCTOR, AND YOU WERE STUDYING TO BE ONE TOO. HOW DID YOU SWITCH TO ACTING?

I’ve been balancing both worlds — medicine and acting — and I’m almost done with my studies now. I enjoy this balance so much because one side is this vibrant, creative world, and the other is the calm focus of medicine. It’s the best of both worlds for me.

WHAT EXCITES YOU MOST ABOUT A PROJECT AND MAKES YOU SAY YES TO IT?

It always starts with the story. If a story impacts me as a person, I know it will connect with the audience too. Beyond that, I love diving into the creative aspects — creating a character’s look, adding unique mannerisms, and bringing something fresh

to each role. I’ve made it a point to explore these nuances lately, and I’m loving it.

WOULD YOU SAY YES TO A FILM JUST BECAUSE OF WHO YOUR CO-STAR IS? ANY ACTOR YOU’VE HAD A CRUSH ON AND HOPE TO WORK WITH SOMEDAY?

Honestly, no. I haven’t said yes to a film just because of a co-star, and so far, no major crushes either!

WHO IS YOUR GO-TO PERSON WHEN TIMES GET TOUGH?

The list is way too long! I’m blessed to have so many people I can rely on.

ARE YOU VERY ROMANTIC AT HEART? WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN TO YOU?

Oh, I’m a hopeless romantic! So many love stories play out in my head, in my dreams, and in my imagination. I’m filmy that way, which is why I adore love stories—they let me explore all the layers of romance.

LOOKING BACK AT YOUR JOURNEY, WHAT PERSONAL MILESTONES HAVE BEEN SPECIAL FOR YOU?

Every film has been a stepping stone, and many of them have been milestones in their way. I cherish every bit of work I’ve done because it’s brought me to where I am today.

I’M A HOPELESS ROMANTIC! SO MANY LOVE STORIES PLAY OUT IN MY HEAD, IN MY DREAMS, AND IN MY IMAGINATION. I’M FILMY THAT WAY, WHICH IS WHY I ADORE LOVE STORIES—THEY LET ME EXPLORE ALL THE LAYERS OF ROMANCE”

EVERY FILM HAS BEEN A STEPPING STONE, AND MANY OF THEM HAVE BEEN MILESTONES IN THEIR WAY. I CHERISH EVERY BIT OF WORK I’VE DONE BECAUSE IT’S BROUGHT ME TO WHERE I AM TODAY

I LOVE DIVING INTO THE CREATIVE ASPECTS — CREATING A CHARACTER’S LOOK, ADDING UNIQUE MANNERISMS, AND BRINGING SOMETHING FRESH TO EACH ROLE. I’VE MADE IT A POINT TO EXPLORE THESE NUANCES LATELY, AND I’M LOVING IT”

Rid

TELL US ONE THING ABOUT YOU THAT NO ONE KNOWS Let’s keep that a secret, shall we?

A SUPERPOWER YOU WISH YOU HAD?

The ability to take away people’s pain.

IF YOU COULD BE ANYONE FROM ANY TIMELINE, WHO WOULD IT BE? I’d have to think long and hard about that one!

IF YOU COULD GET AWAY WITH ONE CRIME, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Stealing hearts… wink wink!

YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE?

Binge Eating food

A HABIT YOU WISH YOU COULD CHANGE?

Panicking, Probably just a person existing in a timeline of more human interaction than digital

YOUR DREAM ROLE? I have so many in mind. It would have to be something deeply impactful and challenging. 7

FOREVER SCREEN HEARTTHROB, AN ACTOR-PAR-EXCELLENCE, AND AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER R MADHAVAN IN A CANDID CONVERSATION WITH AAKANKSHA NAVAL-SHETYE TALKS ABOUT REINVENTING HIMSELF, STAYING RELEVANT, CONSTANTLY PUSHING THE ENVELOPE IN PURSUIT OF CINEMATIC BRILLIANCE AND ALSO MAKES SOME LITTLE-KNOWN REVELATIONS!

Ruling the marquee for over three decades now, R Madhavan’s name has come to be synonymous with versatility, charm, and effortless brilliance on screen. Delivering powerpacked performances that have left an indelible mark on audiences both in Bollywood and the South, the actor-par-excellence has seamlessly carved a niche for himself. From being the quintessential chocolate-hero and playing the endearing lover boy to bringing to life intense and hard-hitting roles and even acing in outright villainous characters, Madhavan’s ability to reinvent himself time and again has cemented his place as one of the most admired and respected actors in Indian cinema, winning him both accolades and awards including the National and Filmfare Awards!

His pursuit for excellence whether as an actor or fi lmmaker is only matched by his unwavering passion for story-telling. And his constant strife to stay relevant in an ever-evolving industry and push the envelope taking on diverse and challenging roles that resonate with audiences across generations, make him one of the most inspiring and celebrated cinematic icons. His success streak promises to continue this year too with an interesting line-up starting with the impressive Hisaab Barabar on ZEE5 Global.

We catch up with the superstar in Dubai for an exclusive interview where he surprises us with a candid revelation. “I still get nervous on the fi rst day of the shoot, in fact, I’m nervous about what I would say in this interview too, but I’m masking it well because I’m a good actor,” he says sporting his ever-charming smile. And as we dive headlong in to a fun conversation, Madhavan opens up about the secret to his enduring success, mastering the art of staying relevant, constantly challenging himself with each new role and reveal’s some home-truths of his family life!

What’s the headspace ahead of a film release?

I’m very nervous before a film’s release and with every film it’s becoming even more difficult. To handle the first day of shoot, to handle the last day of shoot and then to handle the publicity before the release, oh my God!

30 years, countless hits, National and Filmfare awards… one would expect the process to have eased out for you… Yes, by God’s grace, the run has been good. But I want that nervousness, I think that’s what keeps you attentive and grounded. I’ve learnt a lot in these 30 years of my career, and one of the things I’ve learnt is the longer you want to stay relevant, the bigger and more intense the nervousness becomes. On the first day

of shoot, I’m a complete wreck. I’m a good actor to show ki haan main confident hoon, but mujhe lagta hai ki after the first shot, my assistants are talking within themselves ‘he has lost it, ab kisi aur ko assist karne ko dhoondhte hain, yeh to gaya kaam se’ (laughs). I’m telling you, I feel naked, I feel so nervous! When the first day of your shoot is the same as the first day of the full shoot, then it becomes easy because everybody is nervous. But sometimes they have shot for 10 days, with the heroine and somebody else and the whole unit is set and you come later, right? Oh my God! That nervousness, vo alag hi level ka hai.

Irrespective of that nervousness,

you have always delivered some of the most memorable performances on screen. And interestingly, you continue to stay relevant across generations, so what’s the secret there? I think I’m very paranoid about being redundant. I’m very paranoid about getting still, growing stagnant and enjoying my success. Itna kuch karna hai abhi. In fact every time I do a movie, I try to reinvent myself, and I realise that I still have that within me and then I say ‘why didn’t I do Shaitan before or why did I not do Rocketry before.’ So that fear that I’m missing out on fully exploiting all that I’m capable of is something that keeps me going all the time. So I do a lot of research, I try to stay ahead of what the audiences

are expecting from us because at one point of time when we used to go to movie theatres, we used to look up in awe, ‘Arey yaar ye film release hui hai, hero aa raha hai’, we knew they were much better than us. Now the audiences are so advanced and so empowered that you know they are like making reviews in the middle of the movies and putting it out on social media. So you have to be ahead of them to get their respect, so that’s why I think I’m transforming myself.

What’s the draw of doing a project today, like what made you sign Hisaab Barabar on ZEE5 Global?

This is a subject that

As an artist being relevant is very important for me. My biggest nightmare is if I think I’ve done something brilliant and the audience thinks ki ye fuddu kya kar raha hai, so I want to retire before that. So I try to stay ahead of the curve and be relevant even to my son’s generation

I was able to relate to completely. So you know earlier we used to have bank accounts, we used to have passbooks and we knew exactly how much money is there. Today you get instant updates, there are auto debits, and you don’t feel entirely in control of the account. For a common man, his account book is a part of his simple life and dreams. You know, like run his household, get his children educated, settle them down, get them married and live a simple life. That’s all he has. His simple ambitions, nothing very grand. But when this simple basic life is interrupted, this common man can become the most powerful force to reckon with. History is witness… the greatest dynasties and governments have

If I direct, it takes two to three years and I’m 55 already right now, so I want do as much acting as possible, try and squeeze in a couple of more romantic movies before I become too old for that and then maybe I’ll start directing (laughs).

seen it that as long as they didn’t mess with the common man, they were okay, but the moment they did, they were brought down. So this film is something like that. One day a bank insults this common man simply because he wants to know what happened with a small amount when his accounts show some discrepancy, and the film is about how he brings out the entire financial system.

Has something similar ever happened to you as an actor in this industry, where you felt short-changed or cheated by maybe a filmmaker or a producer or something that made you feel that you need to settle scores with him?

It’s a very good question! But you know, I don’t believe in holding grudges. Like I would even forgive my enemy because I feel

like harbouring hatred is not worth my energy or efforts. I would rather enjoy living my life than worry about thinking of taking revenge or wanting to get that person punished. So I’m also a simple man at heart, but don’t mess with me beyond a point is all, maybe then I would retaliate like any normal man would.

You have evolved tremendously as an artiste and creatively too! What has been your greatest learning though the years? Thank you, you’re very kind. So, as an artist being relevant is very important for me. My biggest nightmare is if I think I’ve done something brilliant and the audience thinks ki ye fuddu kya kar raha hai, so I want to retire before that. So I try to stay ahead of the curve and be relevant even to my son’s generation. That even if I’m talking to my son’s generation, they should not think that they are talking to an uncle who is out of age and they should also be able to have a conversation with me and I should be able to debate with them, what are we talking about, what is AI, what is virtual, so that research keeps me alive. And what I’ve learnt in my life is that the greatest of actors and the most prominent of names and the most celebrated and awarded actors are also forgotten. And so don’t take your stardom and your presence so seriously that you forget to live life in between and you forget to do the kind of stuff that you always wanted to do. So we know about Dilip Kumar, my son’s generation doesn’t. And so it’s going to happen to me and the next generation would not know so much about me. And that I think has been the greatest learning.

Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein just re-released and it was a massive hit with the current generations, your Rang De Basanti,

3 Idiots, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect are timeless gems too… It’s a great blessing. And you know what is really strange? I haven’t done that many movies. If you look at it from 2010 till now, I’ve barely done 4 Hindi films. In 12 years, I’ve done Tanu Weds Manu,Tanu Weds Manu Returns, I’ve done Rocketry, Dhokha, Shaitaan. So in 15 years I’ve done 5 films which is not good. But the fact that people remember all is really important for me, it’s really nice. But now, in the last 2 years, I’ve done 9 films. I hope people don’t get bored of me (laughs).

You were a heartthrob on TV, then moved to South, Bollywood and you ruled hearts there and now OTT too is your domain!

Yeah! Well, I’m very blessed. My wife keeps saying that you know ‘tumne to pehle film me hi award le liya, national award for Rocketry. Ab kya karoge? Tumne film ko direct bhi kiya produce bhi kiya aur award bhi le liya’. And I realise she has a point, but I can’t let that stop me and I need to feel the nervousness on the set every day. I need to feel nervous in an interview like I feel right now. I don’t show it but when I go back I will watch this interview again and feel like why did I say that (laughs)! I’m so critical of myself so that is something that is running in my mind as I’m speaking to you.

Well talking about your wife, Sarita, how has she dealt with the ever-increasing female adulation over the years? Have you had any crazy incidents involving some female fan where you felt like this is too much?

I’m sure there were… I was already married when I became an actor, so Sarita has grown seeing this adulation. And she’s a huge fan of Shah Rukh, exactly the same way. So she understands what girls go through when they see an idol of theirs. She’s been very accommodating, in fact I have been surprised how much! But now she tells me like don’t post

this pic or behave your age. And I think she’s right. But I don’t think she’s jealous, she’s just saying behave age appropriate. I think every actor’s wife, goes through the most tough times as a spouse. And I think every actor should love and respect that about them. I’m very grateful to Sarita for that. I’m very lucky to have her.

Your son is a sports star! But what is the one thing that you want your son to imbibe from you?

The same three qualities that my parents taught me. One is to never hurt anybody intentionally, never cheat anybody for money, even if it’s the smallest fraction you own, make sure you square the deal. And the third thing is that treat every human being the same irrespective of what their stature is. These three things my parents taught me, I found that to be the biggest mantra for success. Apart from being a man and a good human being, opportunities opened up to me because I was able to look everybody and acknowledge them and I was very particular about money. People can never say that I sponged off them. And I never cheated anybody intentionally or hurt anybody emotionally intentionally. I was happy being the one spreading happiness. So I might not be the most exciting person in the room but at least I’m not somebody who spreads negativity. So that for me has worked. I hope Vedant understands the power of being that.

What’s coming up next, another directorial?

You know what, I’m very excited about acting like after what I’ve been doing in the last year and direction takes a lot of time yaar. If I direct, it takes two to three years and I’m 55 already right now, so I want do as much acting as possible, try and squeeze in a couple of more romantic movies before I become too old for that and then maybe I’ll start directing (laughs).

You’re not going to get too old for that. Arrey yaar! My soul is grey right now.

.

I want that nervousness, I think that’s what keeps you attentive and grounded. I’ve learnt a lot in these 30 years of my career, and one of the things I’ve learnt is the longer you want to stay relevant, the bigger and more intense the nervousness becomes. PAN-INDIA STAR POOJA HEGDE TALKS TO AAKANKSHA NAVAL-SHETYE ABOUT HER PASSION FOR CINEMA AND WANTING TO PUSH THE ENVELOPE WITH EACH SCREEN OUTING; ALSO REVEALS HER TEEN CRUSH AND LESSER-KNOWN FACTS ABOUT THE REAL HER!

From st arring in some of the biggest films across industries to mesmerizing audience with her charm and versatility, Pooja Hegde has cemented her place as one of the most popular Pan-India actresses. Balancing a flourishing career in both Bollywood and the South film industry, Pooja continues to challenge herself and raise the bar with every project she takes on including her most recent release – the Shahid Kapoor st arrer Deva - that sees her play a fearless investigative journalist . The character is nothing like the real her, reveals Pooja as we catch up with the stunning actress for an exclusive interview. “I’m quite an introvert in real life,” she confesses. And as we plunge into a candid conversation, the st ar also talks about her passion for cinema, what makes Deva and the upcoming Retro special, reveals her teen crush and opens up about pushing the envelope with each outing. Excerpts:

WHAT WAS THE HEADSPACE WITH DEVA?

There’s always excitement. I play an investigative journalist and I’m excited for people to see me in this new light because my character in this film is very raw, it’s very real, intense that requires a lot of guts and courage. So she is very bold in the choices she makes. And I felt that people in Hindi cinema haven’t seen me like that as yet.

WAS THE INTENSE CHARACTER THE BIGGEST DRAW FOR YOU TO SAY A YES TO THIS MOVIE AS WELL?

Yeah. Of course I was very excited because I just felt that people hadn’t seen me like that, so I want to do these kind of roles where I can show myself in a different light and experiment with playing more characters.

TELL US MORE ABOUT THE AMAZING SCREEN CHEMISTRY BETWEEN YOU AND SHAHID (KAPOOR)… I’m always happy when people say that the chemistry has worked or the chemistry is good. I think we just get along, so that kind of translates to celluloid. That’s the most important thing.

INTERESTINGLY, YOUR CHEMISTRY WITH ALL YOUR CO-STARS HAS ALWAYS BEEN SO AMAZING! Growing up, I’ve always loved love stories, like as an audience to watch! And

I’m very clumsy. So when people give compliments like, “oh you look really poised and the way you carry yourself”, I always feel like ‘wow! I’ve managed to really change the perception because if you actually meet me, I’m always dropping something or the other…’ (laughs)

I just love the concept of love. So, my favourite films are ones which have a core thread of love in it. I like it. And it doesn’t have to be a romantic love, it could be a father-daughter story, it could be a mother-daughter story. So, I just love the relationship between two people, and I feel that about the films that I watch, and I think it translates into my work and I’m happy people say that like our souls locked and I’m happy.

WE HAVE SEEN YOU PLAY VERY DEMURE ROLES AS WELL AS VIBRANT AND INTENSE ONES LIKE YOU DO IN DEVA, SO WHAT IS THE REAL POOJA MORE LIKE? You know the funny thing is, I’ve always been a very shy kid. And I have always been an introvert and a very internal person. So that’s who I am. I’m goofy, I’m nerdy. I was a nerd in school. So I feel like I’m yet to play characters that are more like me. So, to me they are all characters and then there is a little bit of me in every character. I leave a little bit of myself in them. So there is a little bit of Pooja in Diya, even though she’s bold, she is outspoken which I’m not in real life. And I’m trying to play different characters but I think the director still needs to write who Pooja Hegde really is in real life and on screen. I’m very clumsy. So when people give compliments like, “oh you look really poised and the way you carry yourself”, I always feel like ‘wow! I’ve managed to really change

the perception because if you actually meet me, I’m always dropping something or the other.’ (laughs).

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR CORE STRENGTH THROUGH YOUR JOURNEY AS AN ACTOR AND WHAT HAS KEPT YOU GOING THROUGH THE HIGHS AND LOWS? I think it comes from me just loving what I do. And I have this ‘never say die’ attitude. Like the tenacity. I always want to move forward in life and I always learn from my mistakes. I genuinely just love films which is why I do what I do. Even, when I’m shooting, I never feel like I’m working. I’m very excited to be on set and just to be able to play different characters, to be able to be a part of films. When I first saw my Tamil film in a theatre, it was the closest thing to magic. I remember sitting in the theatre and thinking all the shots that we took from so many different angles have come together to make this, Wow! Like magic. So more the films I started to watch, the more I fell in love with cinema because for me this part was never something that I even thought I could do. I didn’t even think that it was possible for me to do because no one from my family has ever been part of this industry and when I started to actually delve into films, I was very interested in the way we can tell a story. And to me, if I manage to inspire someone, if I manage to make someone feel like I’m playing them, like the

character reminds them of someone, and if I manage to make somebody feel represented in my films, I will be very happy with that. So that motivates me.

YOU HAVE WORKED WITH SOME OF THE BIGGEST STARS INCLUDING HRITHIK ROSHAN, TO SALMAN KHAN, AKSHAY KUMAR, PRABHAS, SURIYA WITH WHOM YOU ARE DOING RETRO TO NOW SHAHID. DO YOU HAVE ANY PERSONAL FAVOURITES, HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON ANYONE?

Hrithik was one person I crushed on growing up. My first film in Hindi was with him which was like bizarre for me. I didn’t even think in my wildest dreams that I will be working with him. Yeah, so I think it was Hrithik.

DO YOU STILL HAVE ANY SUCH CRUSHES THAT YOU WISH YOU GET A CHANGE TO WORK WITH?

I think more than ‘crush’, the right word is the people I admire, their work, like I’d love to work with Ranbir (Kapoor). I think he’s a phenomenal actor. So that’s someone who I would want to work with. The other person who I would like to work with, like I’ve done ads with him, is Amitabh Bachchan Sir, but I’d love to do a film with him someday. I mean these are legends, like Bachchan Sir is a legend of Hindi cinema and I’m happy I got to share screen space with him but I want to work with him more.

ARE YOU A SWITCH-ON – SWITCH-OFF KIND OF AN ACTOR OR DOES THE CHARACTER STAY LONGER

AFTER CAMERAS HAVE STOPPED ROLLING?

Depends on the scene! Like in Retro I’m playing a very intense character and because it has a lot of emotional moments, the character stayed with me for a long time. The funny thing is, I’m playing a very different role from the one I play in Deva, but I was shooting both of these films at the same time which was a very big challenge for me. So, I think if I’m doing a very intense scene, it takes me time to get out of it. But I believe that the more number of times you do these kind of roles, it kind of becomes easier to slip in and out of it.

IF YOU HAD A CHANCE TO BECOME A JOURNALIST, WHO WOULD YOU WANT TO INTERVIEW – COULD BE CURRENT OR FROM HISTORY?

Maybe Princess Diana. I find her very fascinating as a person.

IS THERE AN INTERESTING ANECDOTE BETWEEN YOU AND SHAHID DURING THE FILMING OF THE MOVIE THAT YOU COULD SHARE WITH US?

A tip that Shahid gave me was, like when we shot ‘Bhasad macha’, he had this really huge mirror that he places in front of him to watch his moves and I felt like it was a very good idea because after getting into hair makeup, sometimes you just want to see yourself, to see how you’re doing the step. So I used to be like, can I please use your mirror. So it was a good tip!

When I first saw my Tamil film in a theatre, it was the closest thing to magic. I remember sitting in the theatre and thinking all the shots that we took from so many different angles have come together to make this, Wow! Like magic.

As always, Shahid is at his playful and charming best, as we dive headlong in a candid chat to talk about his evolution as an actor, growth as a family man, and his continued dominance at the Box Office. Excerpts

WHAT’S THE HEADSPACE LIKE AHEAD OF YOUR BIG RELEASE DEVA?

I don’t know how I’m feeling. You know, it’s like, I’m super excited and super nervous, but I’m satisfied. I’m happy with the product that we’ve made, like I’m very proud of the product that we’ve made and I just want people to see the work and the effort that everybody’s put in to try and make this film look the

way that it is looking.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE SHAHID IN DEVA? Well, he’s intense, he is complex and also he is extremely vulnerable.

WAS IT EASY BRINGING ABOUT THAT COMBINATION OF INTENSE YET BEING VULNERABLE? It was already there in the story and in the character, but yes, of

course it was about how will we do this, you know, and trying to make it yours. You have to make it yours, not feel like ki yeh to aap kar rahe ho, aisa lagna chahiye aap hi ho. That is always a challenge for an actor to make it feel very honest.

YOU ARE IN ONE OF THE BEST PHASES PERSONALLY - CALM, SETTLED, OVERALL A VERY HAPPY SPACE! SO WHEN YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY SUCH INTENSE OR GRAY CHARACTERS ON SCREEN, WHERE DO YOU CHANNELISE ALL THE AGGRESSION FROM?

I want people to think ki yeh banda lagta bada calm hai but isse panga mat lo (Laughs). Nahin yaar, I think it’s just a very different thing, you know that’s a part of your personality or identity as an artist, as an actor. It doesn’t have to be who you are in real life. I’m not like that in real life, but that’s why it’s very exciting to play such characters too.

WHEN YOU PLAY A CHARACTER WHICH IS SO AGGRESSIVE AND INTENSE AND THEN YOU GO BACK HOME, IS IT EASY TO SWITCH BACK TO THAT NORMALCY?

Now I find it much easier. I mean there was a time when I would be very tired or depleted or my mood maybe would not completely change back to normal easily. But now I am not like that. I feel that as a professional after a certain period of time, you should switch off and go back to your home and family and kids and they should not have to deal with the drama that you’re dealing with, of that character in that film. Why should they have to deal with it? So now once I’m done, I’m done!

SO SOMEWHERE DO YOU THINK THAT HAVING A FAMILY KIND OF

As a professional after a certain period of time, you should switch off and go back to your home and family and kids and they should not have to deal with the drama that you're dealing with, of that character in that film. Why should they have to deal with it? So now once I'm done, I'm done!

HELPS YOU AS AN ACTOR?

100 per cent. It helps you create balance. So, yes a 100 per cent!

WE SAW A SHAHID IN JAB WE MET, WHO’S DIFFERENT FROM THE SHAHID IN HAIDER, FROM THE SHAHID IN UDTA PUNJAB, IN KABIR SINGH… AND NOW DEVA. SO WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS THE REAL SHAHID KAPOOR LIKE?

I don’t know, I’m still figuring him out. See all of these… that’s my journey as an actor. But I think there are shades of me in every character that I play, you know, there have to be shades of me. So I don’t know. I can’t define myself.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST CHANGE IN YOU OVER THE 20-23 YEARS, AS AN ACTOR?

Oh wow! Apart from the fact that I’m now 20 years older and I’m a father...

BUT YOU HAVE TO START LOOKING OLDER TOO… YOU STILL DON’T LOOK YOUR AGE!

But then you won’t be here to take my interview na! You’d want some other good looking guy. So that I can’t afford to do, so I have to continue looking good. Now what to do? (Laughs).

BUT WHAT’S THE SECRET THERE?

I think there are just certain habits, like I’m a vegetarian, and I like to sleep early and I like to spend time with my family because I think it’s very good and important to detox from all the pressures and the stress of life. Also I like to stay connected to simple things in life. I don’t know, I can just share with you what I am and you can take what you want.

NO ONE BEATS YOU THERE… ALSO, THERE ARE SO MANY ACTORS IN THE FRAY TODAY, AND THEY DO ACTION, THEY DANCE, THEY DO THESE INTENSE DRAMAS AND THEN THERE’S YOU! IT’S LIKE ‘HOLD MY GLASS, THIS IS HOW IT’S DONE’ AND THEN YOU ACE IT ALL…

Thank you! But I don’t know… I guess I’m happy that you think like that. Main apne aap ko vaise lens se nahin dekh sakta jaise dusre log dekhte hain

But I think there are shades of me in every character that I play, you know, there have to be shades of me. So I don't know. I can't define myself

looks like a million bucks and possesses a thousandwatt smile. She’s one bindaas girl who is as comfortable doing risque comedies like Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video and Bad Newz (both 2024) as she is doing a period horror, Bulbbul (2020) and a psychological musical, Qala (2022). Her role in Animal (2023), where she played Ranbir Kapoor’s lover, got her the notorious sobriquet of Bhabhi No 2. She took every bouquet and brickbat in her stride and today her career is on the rise and rise. Such is her popularity that the re-release of her Laila Majnu (2018) some time ago earned more moolah than it originally did back then. The reel Triptii is courted by masses and filmmakers alike but nothing much is known about the real Triptii. She believes in living life to the fullest and doesn’t let anything or anyone faze her. Despite her stardom, she remains a simple girl at heart. In a candid chat, the chirpy actor answers questions about relationships, food and fashion. Excerpts

MALAYALAM STAR UNNI MUKUNDAN TALKS TO AAKANKSHA NAVAL-SHETYE ABOUT TAKING THE BOX OFFICE BY STORM WITH HIS ACTIONER MARCO

South

actor-producer Unni Mukundan shot to pan-India fame with his high-octane actioner Marco that took audience by storm and made him all the rage especially with action-lovers!

Best known for hits like Vikramadithyan, Style, Oru Vanthu Parthaya, KL 10 Patthu, Achayans, Jai Ganesh, Malikappuram, the star's latest blockbuster is also one of the highestgrossing releases.

Currently the actor is gearing up for his soon-to-release family entertainer Get Set Baby which is in a completely different space from Marco.

And in our exclusive interview Unni talks about juggling multiple genres, his return to action after seven years with the smasher hit Marco and reveals if a sequel is on the cards!

MARCO’S SUCCESS CATAPULTED YOU TO PAN-INDIA STARDOM, WERE YOU EXPECTING TO BECOME SUCH A HUGE SENSATION WITH THIS THRILLER?

I always knew Marco was something fresh and unique, but it was an experiment as you never know which way it will go. I was confident about its success in Kerala, especially since it marked my return to the action genre after seven years. But the response from the Hindi audience genuinely surprised me. Unlike big-budget action films that usually do well outside their home market, we didn’t have the resources to promote Marco’s Hindi version aggressively, it was mostly digital promotions. So, seeing the love it received from the Hindi audience was unexpected but incredibly rewarding and I can say the gamble played in our favour.

If a film has the right ingredients to appeal to a Hindi-speaking audience, we will definitely consider it. But my focus will always be on making strong, authentic stories first.

THE FILM’S SUCCESS WILL SEE MORE OFFERS POURING IN FROM BOLLYWOOD AS WELL, SO WILL THE CRITERIA FOR SIGNING ON A FILM CHANGE FOR YOU ON ANY LEVEL? It depends on the film. If a film has the right ingredients to appeal to a Hindi-speaking audience, we will definitely consider it. But my focus will always be on making strong, authentic stories first.

CAN WE EXPECT A SEQUEL?

Yes. But after completing a few of my commitments. They too are quite refreshing for me as an actor and producer.

WHAT ARE YOUR UPCOMING PROJECTS?

Right now, I’m really excited about Get Set Baby

— it’s a film that’s close to my heart, and I can’t wait for everyone to see it. Get Set Baby is a completely different film from Marco, and that’s what makes it exciting. It’s a wonderful film, with great songs and is a mature take on a mature subject. As an actor, it brings me

back to the family audience. The movie will get a different reception. All the new audience, including the youth, who have watched Marco would find it refreshing to see me in this avatar, with no blood. I am hopeful about Get Set Baby being a good family entertainer.

Fashion The Waves

This season, Alish Apparel brings a refreshing wave of style with its versatile and elegant dress collection. Perfect for yacht parties, seaside brunches, or chic city outings, each piece blends sophistication with contemporary charm.

The floral maxi skirt, paired with a sleek black crop top, exudes femininity while making a bold fashion statement. Meanwhile, the plaid ensemble with a chic black bralette redefines edgy sophistication with a touch of tradition.

For this Valentine’s Day, we’ve rounded up some of the best movies to make your evening unforgettable. Grab the popcorn, dim the lights, and get ready to feel all the love!

La La Land

La La Land is a modern musical about the love story between Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a jazz musician, as they navigate their careers and their relationship in Los Angeles. Their love is tested by ambition, dreams, and sacrifice, with a bittersweet conclusion that showcases the beautiful tension between love and personal aspirations.

Eternal Sunshine of the

Spotless Mind

What if you could erase all memories of a failed relationship?

This mind-bending film follows Joel (Jim Carrey)and Clementine (Kate Winslet) as they attempt to forget each other, only to realize love leaves an imprint that can’t be erased. Through its nonlinear storytelling and emotionally raw performances, the film beautifully portrays the complexity of human emotions, questioning whether love is truly worth reliving, even when it comes with pain.

The Notebook

Barfi!

A classic love story based on Nicholas Sparks’ novel, The Notebook chronicles the passionate and enduring romance between Noah (Ryan Gosling) and Allie (Rachel McAdams). The film captures the resilience of love across time, with Noah’s dedication to Allie, even in the face of adversity and class differences. Their love story is a timeless reminder that true love can overcome all obstacles.

In this beautifully crafted love story, Barfi! tells the tale of a mute and deaf man, Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), who forms extraordinary relationships with two women—Shruti (Ileana D’Cruz) and Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra), who is autistic. The film explores the power of unconditional love, transcending verbal communication and societal norms, and is an emotional, visually stunning portrayal of love’s complexities.

500 Days of Summer

Aashiqui 1 & 2

A deeply emotional Bollywood film that explores the agony of loving someone who doesn’t love you back. Ayan (Ranbir Kapoor) and Alizeh (Anushka Sharma) share an intense friendship, but while he sees her as the love of his life, she remains emotionally attached to someone else. The film beautifully portrays love in its different forms such as friendship, passion, and heartbreak which showcase how love doesn’t always end in a fairy tale but still leaves a lasting impact.

Both films revolve around intense love stories with music at their heart. While Aashiqui introduced a timeless romance, Aashiqui 2 follows the tragic romance between Rahul (Aditya Roy Kapur), a fading rockstar battling alcoholism, and Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor), an aspiring singer he helps rise to fame. Their love is passionate yet destructive, highlighting the sacrifices and struggles that often come with deep love.

Jab We Met

Jab We Met is a bubbly romantic comedy that brings together Geet (Kareena Kapoor) and Aditya (Shahid Kapoor). After a chance meeting on a train, Geet’s vibrant personality transforms Aditya’s life. This film is a heartwarming celebration of spontaneous love, humor, and the unexpected joy that comes when you least expect it. It’s a perfect lighthearted choice for a fun Valentine’s Day movie.
