TALK OF THE TOWN

Greetings, FIBC Members and Friends,

We may make our plans, but the Lord orders our steps! That was quite evident when the night before our 118th Church and 46th Pastoral Anniversaries/Pastor Karen’s Retirement after 30 years on the FIBC Staff Celebration, I received a call from our guest preacher, Dr. Gary V. Simpson, Leading Pastor of the Concord Baptist Church of Christ, Brooklyn, New York, informing me that due to unstable weather his plane to Phoenix had been cancelled Praise the Lord, Pastor Roland Pierce was God’s “ram in the bush” less than 24 hours before preaching time at FIBC. The Lord used him powerfully Pastor Karen and I are most appreciative of all of the acts of love that you directed our way during our triple-header celebration. We enjoyed fellowship, food and fun all weekend long Much gratitude to Deacon Darnell and the Rev Patricia Sells, Co-Chairpersons, and the celebration committee members and FIBC Staff for their leadership.

A couple of days after the aforementioned celebration, eleven of us were off to the Motherland on the 2023 FIBC African Mission Adventure to Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, Nairobi, Kenya and Kigali, Rwanda. Believe me, the 31 hours getting to South Africa and the 48 hours returning to the Valley were all worth it. Persons accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior during worship at FIBC of Soweto and we baptized 46 new followers of Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 24th, during the organizing of FIBC of Rwanda! FIBC established a new partnership with The Global Cathedral-Nairobi and its Pastor, Bishop Moses Turere Pastor Thierry Mugemana was voted to become the Lead Pastor of FIBC of Rwanda.

Remember that we welcome our new Executive Director of Minister, Pastor John H Talley, III, on October 8, 2023 During October, FIBC will also be celebrating our men and boys under our 2023 FIBC Theme Focus: LET’S SHIFT TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LORD’S “BUT” LOVING OUR GIFTED BROTHERS! In addition, Pastor Karen celebrates another birthday on October 22nd. That’s about it for now. See you soon.

Keep the faith and be encouraged!

Pastor Stewart

ctober 1 is International Day of Older Persons and e 2023 Theme is “Fulfilling the Promises of the niversal Declaration of Human Rights for Older rsons: Across Generations”

venty-five years ago, the United Nations General sembly adopted the Universal Declaration on uman Rights, a monumental document in the story of human rights.

Written by representatives from around the world with different legal, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds, it is the first document articulating the fundamental human rights that are meant to be universally protected. In recognition of this milestone, and looking to a future that delivers on the promise to ensure that all persons, including all older persons, fully enjoy their human rights and fundamental freedoms, the 33rd commemoration of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons will focus on the theme of “Fulfilling the Promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: Across Generations”. The day puts a spotlight on the specificity of older persons around the world, for the enjoyment of their rights and in addressing violations, and how the strengthening of solidarity through equity and reciprocity between generations offers sustainable solutions to deliver on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals.

ChangetheWayYouThinkAboutAge!

Did you know?

The number of people aged 65 years or older worldwide is projected to more than double, rising from 761 million in 2021 to 1.6 billion in 2050. The number of people aged 80 years or older is growing even faster.

Globally, babies born in 2022 are expected to live 71.7 years on average, 25 years longer than those born in 1950.

Population ageing is an irreversible global trend. In 2021, 1 in 10 people worldwide were aged 65 or above. In 2050, this age group is projected to account for 1 in 6 people globally.

Women tend to live longer than men and thus comprise the majority of older persons. In 1950, women could expect to live almost four years more than men globally. In 2021, the difference between the two had increased to more than five years.

The number of individuals categorized as older working-age (55 to 64 years) is projected to surge from 723 million in 2021 to 1,075 million in 2050, and eventually to 1,218 million by 2100.
