Philippines marriage visa The decision as to whether to get married in a foreign country like the Philippines is a difficult one made by thousands of couples each year. It isn’t very difficult for a United States to get married in the Philippines which is obviously required to obtain a Philippines Marriage visa. It requires an appearance at a United States embassy or consulate in the Philippines for the United States Citizen to obtain a certificate indicating their ability to get married. That certificate is then taken to the foreign fiancée’s locality where the required marriage license is applied for.

Typically the issuance of a marriage license in the Philippines takes 10 business days to be issued there have been many occasions where the license can be expedited by the payment of additional fees. However, the payment of these additional fees amount to nothing more than paying a bribe and there is no way I believe anyone should pay a penny in bribe money in an effort to have a civil servant do their job. Rather if it is your intention to get married in the Philippines it is wiser to allow a sufficient amount of time in country to let the application and licensing process be completed in normal time frames. In doing so the US Citizen should plan on spending a minimum of 19-21 days in the Philippines to prepare for the Philippines marriage visa. Current processing times for a Philippines marriage visa are between 10-12 months and should be avoided in preference of a fiancé visa whenever possible.
