Jim and Carol Tyndall, along with their daughter Jamie (owners of Fun For Less Tours), were able to experience this fantastic part of the world on a private train. At the time, the train was not visiting Tajikistan or Kyrgyzstan. Knowing the train missed the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, they went in early to explore the areas the train missed. Even though they had traveled to over a hundred countries, they knew almost nothing about Central Asia and its history of the Silk Road. To say they were overwhelmed with the ancient beauty and the people would be an understatement. To Jim, Carol, and Jamie, it shot right up near the top of all the places they have ever visited. After the trip, they agreed to charter the whole train for our group – BUT, they needed to redesign the train's itinerary and needed to add the countries of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. A train is not like a bus that can just take a different road. Getting permission to travel by rail, wanting to stop and park your train like a bus was not easy. It took close to a year of working with the different governments and local train companies to get permission to change our itinerary and add the additional two Stans - Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The only reason this is possible is that we are chartering the whole train, changing the itinerary, and adding additional nights on the train.

A Few Things to Consider:

• The huge price savings from our chartering the whole train. As far as we know, no one has ever chartered the entire private train through the Silk Road in Central Asia.

• NO LONG DRIVES! On Jim and Carol’s trip they met many people traveling through the Silk Road by bus. When they asked how they liked their tour, everyone said they loved the sites, and the hotels, but the long drives were exhausting and grueling! They spent ½ of their time or more doing long drives. There were many days of driving that were 6 hours or more before they reached the next area to tour. Then when they arrived, they were given less time than they would have liked to see the sights. WE HAVE NO LONG DRIVES! We will travel by train at night and then tour during the day. Some of the bus travelers they met said they had looked at the train but it only visited 2 of the Stan countries. They wanted all 4, so they went by bus. You will get all 4 Stans without any long drives, plus you will have plenty of time to enjoy the many beautiful sites.

We have added Shanghai and the FANTASTIC Medieval Area of Suzhou for our 2027 Group. We have added two days to our tour, and it will be worth every minute. In 2027 our China group will start in Shanghai instead of Hong Kong. We have still included everything that has made our tour the BEST Tour in China, we have just made it BETTER by adding Shanghai and Suzhou. There were two major reasons we added Shanghai and Suzhou.

• Cutting out Suzhou was very hard, but logistically it came down to either visiting Hong Kong OR Shanghai with Suzhou. We chose Hong Kong. That has all changed with the addition of highspeed trains that are starting to cover all of China. We can logistically now do Shanghai with Suzhou AND still visit Hong Kong. Suzhou has always been impressive. Maro Polo wrote about his visit to Suzhou in the 1300’s. he was captivated by Suzhou, calling it the Venice of the East due to its extensive canals and numerous stone bridges, many of which are still in place. It will be like stepping back in time to one of the bestpreserved areas of China.

• The border crossing from Hong Kong into China was a massive mess. With so much luggage, we couldn’t use the train. We had to drive long distances to a separate border crossing. Everyone had to haul their own luggage long distances through long lines for inspection and clearance into China. We then had to load luggage and travel to our next destination. We always lost a day transferring through the border to our next destination. It was a massive headache. We will now visit Hong Kong from our luxury hotel in Guangzhou. Highspeed trains take only 45 minutes from Guangzhou to downtown Hong Kong. Instead of hours traveling and hauling luggage through customs, we will be through customs in just a few minutes. After our wonderful tour of Hong Kong we will board our highspeed 45-minute ride back to Guangzhou. Enjoy a day visiting Hong Kong and then return to the highspeed train for our 45-minute ride back to Guangzhou.

Yes, those mountains actually exist, they filmed them at Zhangjiajie and then cut off the bottoms to make them float in the movie. This is a highlight of highlights in China.

• Tianmen Mountain: A HUGE highlight day. Experience the most beautiful cable car ride in the world. It also claims to be the longest cable car ride in the world. The ride is over 30 minutes as it travels through beautiful canyons and scenery to the top of Tianman Mountain, where we will spend the day.

• Both the Yangtze and the Li River in one tour. Rarely will a tour include both. Usually, you must pick between a tour that includes the Li River or one that includes the Yangtze. If you are going to China, you need to do both.

• The BEST Cultural Shows: We don’t add them as an extra that you have to buy, we have included some of the very best cultural shows China has to offer.

• REAL 5-Star Luxury Hotels and Cruise Ship: In China hotels and Yangtze River cruise ships can assign their star rating more or less on their own - many companies passengers end up in hotels and cruise ships on the Yangtze that state they are 5 stars but in reality, they are more like a 3 star. Majority of our hotels are 5 Star PLUS and our luxury Yangtze Cruise ship's cabins all have private balconies. In 2025 we were on the same cruise ship with a National Geographics group. They paid more than double for a shorter China tour that did not include the Zhangjiajie Mountains, the ancient walled city of Pingyao, Guangzhou or the many shows we included.

• The ancient walled city of Pingyao: China’s best-preserved ancient walled city. The whole town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is often called a living museum. Even though the ancient walled city is many hundreds of years old, the buildings are all lived in. The first banking system in China started in Pingyao. This will be a major highlight.

• Pandas and the Guangzhou Zoo Shows: A great place to see Pandas is at the Guangzhou Zoo. The Zoo also has many animal shows to enjoy. We will also enjoy a fantastic evening show across from our luxury hotel.

• High-Speed Trains are faster than flying: By the end of 2022 China was close to having 30,000 miles of high-speed rail lines, they are working on getting to 50,000 miles of highspeed rails. Highspeed trains travel between 120 to 220 miles an hour. We used to do 5 airplane flights inside of China. By the time you add the drive through traffic to the airports, the hours needed at the airport before the flights, along with the drive time back into the next city – in every routing, traveling by high speed train has become faster than flying. That doesn’t even take into consideration that the vast majority of our flights were over an hour late. The trains have more comfortable seats, more leg room and you get to enjoy the beautiful China landscapes when traveling by train.

• High-Speed Train Baggage issues: China’s High-Speed Trains have only a small area around your seat that can handle American’s small carry-ons – which is the size of what the Chinese would take as a suitcase. There is no room for large suitcases without having to eat up your leg room. Then there is the massive headache of loading and unloading buses, dragging large suitcases through train stations, along with having to lift your large suitcases on and off the trains. We are the only company we know of that has solved this issue. Your suitcases are taken from your hotel room in one city and will magically appear in your hotel room in the next city. We have your large luggage trucked from your hotel room to your next hotel in the next city. You are free to travel on the high-speed trains with your day pack or small carry-on – without having to handle or worry about your large suitcases.

Sail on all 5 Lakes

You really can sail on all 5 lakes, even though they are at different heights. All the lakes are connected by rivers and waterways. On some of them, you can get there by the connecting rivers or waterways, but on others, the rivers or waterways between the Great Lakes are not navigable. For example, the Niagara River drains from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, but other than traveling by barrel over the falls, no ship can navigate the Niagara River. There is a 27-mile canal with a total of 8 locks that will move our ship up or down as needed to be able to sail between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

Before we charter a train or ship, the owners have to experience it first, to check out the quality and itinerary. There were six things that convinced them they needed to charter trains in Africa for our passengers:

• Rovos Rail: Our exclusive Africa train charters are through Rovos Rail. Considered by many to be the most luxurious train in the world! Rovos Rail harkens back to a simpler, more elegant era encompassing the timeless grace and high romance of African exploration. With vintage wood-paneled coaches and open lounge areas, the train is its own highlight. The train can carry up to 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites.

• Bathrooms and Showers: On our Africa luxury trains EVERY cabin has an attached private bathroom. On our Siberia and Silk Road trains, that we have chartered, very few cabins included an attached bathroom and shower. The majority of the cabins did not have a private bathroom attached to their cabin. They did have shared public toilets and showers in each car. Having the luxury of having a bathroom in each train cabin was impressive.

We do not know if this is the Lehi mentioned in the Book of Mormon, but we do know this will be a huge highlight as you visit an active archaeological dig. The excavations are on an Army Base. Only those excavating and Fun For Less Tours have been given permission to go onto the site.

• The purchase power of the dollar this year compared to past years: In the past for every dollar we traded for Indian Rupees (India’s money), we received somewhere between 42 to 50 rupees. This year for every dollar we are able to get close to 90 rupees per dollar. This is the best exchange rate we have ever seen. We are purchasing the Indian rupees now and putting them in the bank to insure the huge savings for our 2026 group. No one knows when the number of rupees per dollar will go back to 40 rupees per dollar.

· Pushkar Festival: With so few days in a year that the 1,000 year old festival is held and so few places to stay in the Pushkar area, very few tourists are ever able to experience the Pushkar Festival. Even those that go most have to stay in tent camps, but not our group, we have one of the few 5-star resort hotels for our passengers. This is only available to our passengers because of connections the owners of Fun For Less Tours have in India.

· Maharaja Palaces: Many of them are so stunning that they become an attraction unto themselves. We usually leave early and return around 4pm back to the Maharaja Palaces. This gives our passengers time to leisurely explore the beautiful grounds, take a swim in some of the beautiful swimming pools and enjoy dinner on patios overlooking the manicured gardens.

· The Country of Bhutan: Few, if any, tourists ever get permission to visit Bhutan – it's like stepping back in time where little has changed in hundreds of years. This is an optional extension, but if you have time and have the money we highly recommend it. Bhutan wants to limit the number of tourists. One of the ways is that they charge $200 a day per tourist, in addition to any visas, flights, hotels and other expenses related to the trip. That means, with our group staying 4 nights, we are paying between $800 and $1,000 per person just for the right to enter Bhutan. Expensive, but we believe it is worth it.

We will spend two weeks visiting and studying the Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, the beginnings of America, and the war of Independence. • Williamsburg Area: We plan to spend two nights in Williamsburg, where costumed actors will take you back to the days of Colonial America before the Revolutionary War. We will also visit James Town and Yorktown National Battlefield. What a fantastic way of celebrating the 250th Birthday of our great nation. This is a rare experience to be taught about our American History by two of the best educators on the subject. Michael Wilcox and Jeff Lawson – Both have a passion for American History.
