Windmill House 2.0

Project Goal:

A Sustainable Cabin

Summary:

The aim of the design is to create an independent living-work unit for the post-pandemic era. A combination of circular houses and wood structures is considered a pioneer of rational and environmentally friendly trial. The innovative approach can be seen as one of the many possible solutions for the needs of the next generation and the rapidly changing environmental conditions.

With the acceleration of COVID-19, rapid change and uncertainty are glutted with people's lives. Demand for smart working at home is noticeably increasing. Thus, a combination of working and living space is a necessary step. We would like to highlight that the di昀케cult point in this design is to solve the problem of the spatial functional interconversion on a relatively restricted area.

The house is extremely small, yet the interior is very rationally organized. It has all the necessary elements for comfortable and holistic living. Although the functional zones can be clearly de昀椀ned, there is a high level of 昀氀exibility in the interior solutions.

Sustainability

The house is designed in an environmentally responsible way. The construction is mainly made of wood because of its sustainability and low carbon footprint. Wood could be easily found or transported everywhere, which ensures the cost-e昀케ciency of the structures.

Created with the care of natural resources, the house has the potential to be completely energy independent. The watercollecting system on the roof is combined with the reservoir in the foundation zone to provide storage and access to freshwater even

in extreme conditions. Solar energy is being produced by fully transparent solar cells integrated into the glass skin. Also, an additional energy-producing wind generator can be placed on the roof depending on the needs of the household and situation.

The Water Temple new senses

SITE LOCATION

As one of the most amazing places in Mexico, the Basaltic Prisms of Santa Maria Regla , represent not only one of the most beautiful places in the world, but a tremendous history. Being named as the “first magical town” of Mexico, Huasca de Ocampo is the place where the prisms live and pose for the world. This is a small town near Pachuca south of Mexico City.

CONCEPT AND STRATEGY

Once water was considered a deity, today the human is not afraid to reject and harm it.Pollution, waste and residues are now the main users of our rivers in the world.

"Temple of Water" develop a space for reflection on the importance of water for humans. Since the Basaltic Prisms ' beauty is given because of the hydrological erosion that polishes the stone and brings that brightness, the topography itself generates a river that crosses the 4 cascades in the place. These elements make this a perfect place for a water temple.

Through the use of various Spaces, structures and materials, the design allows people to interact with the water in different senses, while harmoniously integrating with the surrounding natural environment, enabling people to experience the sacredness and beauty of nature

Di昀昀erent areas are divided by height di昀昀erence. First, people walk down steps to enter the cavern like interior, and there are also two steps in the interior as the transition of di昀昀erent areas

The glass at the top of the sound area not only illuminates the interior, but also serves as a guide. Windows are opened in the transition section, so that people's attention can turn to the outdoor scenery. There is water sandwich in the glass at the top of the light and shadow area, which will transmit water shadow to the interior wall and ground under the irradiation

FLOOR PLAN

Between Old and New

Project Goal:

Committed to the redevelopment of the district, the creation of an innovative childhood campus and the bridging and leading role for the redevelopment of the buildings in the surrounding area

Summary:

Through the use of traditional and modern architectural languages, the project shows the friendly transition and integration of traditional architecture and new architecture, thus presenting the theme of "between the old and the new".The overall layout revolves around patios, elements of local traditional architecture, bringing a variety of Spaces to the building. In addition to the patio, the pitched roof and the color scheme of the building references the traditional architecture of the area, while the coloured steel bars, simple window frames and columns outside the building are clearly contemporary.

Facade design:

Colored steel bars are used as the facade of the connecting corridor between small building volumes, which is a common modeling technique in modern architecture. It can form a strong contrast with the relatively plain colors on the building volumes, forming a flexible building facade and making the building modelling more lively and close to children's preferences. The volume of the building is coloured from the local traditional architecture, and the Windows are simple and modern

Project Goal:

A Sustainable Regeneration

Summary:

The aim of the project is to regenerate an old neighborhood for the Piacenza city. The generation patterns and historical heritage of the city are considered to build good connection between this area and the whole city. In addition to that, tra昀케c is regarded as an important in昀氀uence factor for the regeneration plan. The new spatial order gives modern energy to this area.

With the development of human society, sustainability gains more and more attention. This is highly related to the future of human wellbeing and cutural heritage. This project refers sustainable development goals, and applies initations to responde the goals of "Good Health and Wellbeing", "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure", "Sustainable Cities and Communities", "Climate Action". We emphasized details of sustainable initiatives and landscape structures.

The project area is not big, but the relations are complex inside. The project rationally organize these relations according to analysis, in the meanwhile, it has sustainable development characteristics.

Urban Strategy

Impressions(before)

Impressions(after)

The two piazzas seem to be a leftover from the city fabric palimpsest. As such, it is dominated by car-centric uses: Parking lots replaced open space public spaces, multi-lane roads and a bus station that has fallen beyond disrepair. A single patch of green exists 400 meters in any direction, of green grass and scattered plants surrounded by roads on all 4 sides.

It is hoped to instead inject a new layer of urban regeneration into the context, to transform it into a pocket park. Using naturebased solutions and landscape structures, local ecology replaces streets where possible, and the piazza makes it safer for children to enjoy the site. What was the former bus station is now a stairshaped mediatheque.

A Trail of Nature

Project Goal: A Sustainable eco-city

Summary:

The ‘Trail of Nature’ is a project that aims to create a sustainable and accessible bicycle path that connects Sant Monjiuc to Collserola in Barcelona by various points of interest while promoting eco-touristic activities and highlighting nature as the main design feature. The path will then be transformed into a cycling bridge as a naturebased solution for urban areas. Due to its eco-design, the bridge does not only serve as a sustainable transportation option, but also improve storm water management, support for pollinators and in昀椀ltrate the air. As a result, the project promotes physical activity, environmental conservation, and community engagement along the trail. It will create a healthier and more sustainable environment for both people and pollinators in urban areas.
