15th Internationl Human Right Film Festival - content copying allowed

TransformArt: Art as a means of social transformation 15th edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival, organized by the DerHumALC Multimedia Institute, ended on Wednesday August 14 in the City of Buenos Aires.

The general approach of this year, TransformArt: Art as a means of social transformation, inspired our work search and encouraged the selection of the figures which are helping us to build this meeting and creative reflection space. The program of this 15th edition Festival was composed by a selection of 83 titles, documentaries, animations and fictions, 37 only for the Schools Section, from 24 countries.

Sections, Windows and Focuses Apart from the traditional sections (Enviroment, Native Peoples, Childhood and Youth, Gender Views, Migrants, Memory and Panorama) and the Window to Naples, this year’s innovation was the special Window to Cine FÊrtil, where we have discussed with both, the Saharan and the Palestinian subjects, through two important thematic cores; likewise, we have opened the Window to Germany, in collaboration with the Goethe Institute and the Window to San Sebastian Human Rights Film Festival, with our partner in the International Human Rights Film Network. For the third time we presented the successful Focus on Colombia and Focus on Middle East.

Special Activities & Schools Section This year we had the pleasure of having the presence of more than 20 International Guests and 50 Nationals Guests.

In the framework of the Special Activities, panel debates, meetings between the public and authors, workshops, exhibitions and performances, helped to stimulate the debate generated by the film schedule.

Almost 2,000 young people between 12 and 18 years participated with their schools, juvenile institutions, or educational programs, in the screenings and activities of the Schools Section.

Competitions 25 movies from 14 countries participated in the Competitions under evaluation of three Official Juries, one for each contest, plus the traditional Signis Jury and Art students from the Faculty of

Philosophy and Literature (UBA) Jury.

In the Closing Ceremony of Tuesday August 13, held in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the prizes have been awarded to the winners of this 15th edition of the Festival.

Feature Films Official Competition Juries: Lucía Capozzo, Pedro Zurita, Lucía Puenzo, Carlos A. “Gandhi” Gonzalez and Mariela Pugliese

First Prize Aquafilms, US$ 5.000 Granito de Arena by Pamela Yates Because the documentary represented a vehicle for the political and social transformation in Guatemala; it’s a document that provided evidence and testimony to begin the trial for the genocide of the Mayan people during the dictatorship of Efrain Rios Montt. Yates Pamela's work has been constructed by adding each bit with coherence for the justice. The jury emphasizes also a common theme that crosses many of the films presented: the business of weapon and the tragic consequences that it generates.

Staff We are proud of the collaboration of about 150 volunteers who came to participate in the project, each one bringing professionalism and passion.

For the first time we adjudged scholarships to course in the Vocational Training Centre of the Union of Film Industry Argentina to three volunteers.

Good Pitch² Buenos Aires Within the framework of the 15th International Film Festival on Human Rights, we have been proud to host the first edition of Good Pitch² Buenos Aires, carried out by Channel 4 BRITDOC Foundation, Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and DerHumALC Multimedia Institute.

On Saturday August 10 at the Cultural Center of Memory Haroldo Conti, we appreciated the presentation of El Vals de los Inútiles, 9.70, Territorios and Mujeres con Pelotas.

The high-impact presentations, like all proposals, ideologies and positions shared by the participants have been generated in the audience what would be the purpose of the event: forging alliances between filmmakers and society, aiming at social transformation through the documentary.

Festival The International Film Festival on Human Rights, organized by the DerHumALC Multimedia Institute, is held annually in the cities of Buenos Aires and Santiago del Estero (Argentine).

It intends to create a space for reflection and debate and add value to Human Rights concerns by means of the artistic representation entailed in quality filmmaking. In this event, social and political films meet in documentary, fiction and animation formats.

The International Film Festival of Human Rights has been declared of Cultural Interest by the Chamber of Deputies, by the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and by the Ministry of Culture of the Presidency of the Nation.

The Honour Committee is composed by Rigoberta Menchú, Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Tati Almeida, Patricia Erb y Darío Fo. The Counsel Committee is composed by Jorge Denti, Mimmo Calopresti, Patrice Vivancos, Mariano Metsman y Humberto Ríos.
